Making a rolling pin, jelly, and fancy pop-tarts all from the same tree

We're back to eating trees, but this time I'm not forcing myself to suffer for your amusement - no, I'm only eating delicious stuff today! Watch while I turn a severely cracked piece of wood from an eastern redbud tree into a rolling pin, then gather some eastern redbud blossoms to turn into some tasty jelly, and use that to make a variation on a fancy pop tart.
What's not to like?? Seriously, though! You tell me!

Sameee, life has been super rough lately and today was just plain awful, but this video gave me hope to keep trying stuff until I find something that sticks and makes me happy. I've always loved baking and now I want to start baking again. I believe we can both make it through the rough patches no matter how long they last, never forget that you're not alone and let's keep pushing together :)

I have a special red bud tree that I planted for my grandmother when she passed. It's a little late in Virginia this year, but I am going to remember this for next year, because that little tree is just covered in blossoms in early spring. My grand mom would DEFINITELY approve.

Sal is still the best roller for biscuits, though Also! If you're still taking suggestions for california native trees, i have them! I'm firmly on team trees which are not tree-trees and would like to put forward for consideration Washingtonia filifera (the desert fan palm, the only native palm the united states has) as well as Yucca brevifola (the joshua tree), both of which were absolutely critical to the landscape of my childhood. Y'know, since Arizona got to have a cactus for its contribution to the native tree map.
@CandiceLemonSharks

Also, I really really want to see what you'd create from Asimina triloba/paw paw (wood and fruit), or a from passion vine let go so long its stem figured out how to become a trunk.

If you're going to use resin in kitchen untensils, please make sure it's a food safe type. Most resins are not food safe. It probably doesn't matter as much with something like a rolling pin that is only briefly touching the food, but in things like bowls, plates, and cutlery, it can be really dangerous. Resins that aren't specifically marked as food safe will leach carcinogens into your food.

These eating trees videos are my favorite. On one hand, you get to see a cool piece or tool come together, on another you get to learn so many things about the trees, and, you get to learn cool new recipies with very unique ingredients! I also think this is such a great applicatoin of epoxy. I like it when its used with wood in sculptures, but when used in simple applications such as table tops or cutting boards, especially as it's so often dyed, it takes away from the wood. Here, it enhances the look. Great work!

Oi Justin, concerning the cracks in the woods. Us bowyers (even the amateur ones like me!) know all about that, as uneven drying is a surefire way to ruin a perfect piece of wood. That would be a shame too since, as we all know, every tree dreams of becoming a bow. Anyway, if you want a piece of wood to dry more slowly and evenly, just stick the endcuts into some wood glue. Paint will usually work too. Just seal the ends and the wood will dry through the bark, uniformly.
