The simplest model of a steam engine. It consists only of a moving cylinder and a piston. Without valves etc.

@tmatheson

That big old flywheel on there it can probably provide 6-12v. You would be better off with a steam powered turbine. You wouldn’t loose as much energy to friction. If you mean mechanical power not much you can stop them with one finger. The pressure determines the power here. Whatever the boiler can put out and the engine can withstand.
@TheRenofox
@TheRenofox Місяць тому
@@tmatheson Apparently turbines require very hot steam to not take damage from water droplets, which is why I've been looking into steam engines myself. If it's plausible to use steam to generate at least 1kw of power, combined with the heat of burning wood in the first place would be enough to heat and power a house during the cold and expensive winter months.
@veralium29
@veralium29 28 днів тому
@@TheRenofox Yep, precisely why I'm looking into it too. I've been thinking of building one with a rocket stove around it to save as much heat as possible.

I wudnt be surprised if the amount of force this small steam engine makes is enuf to run a push mower, not using electrical parts to convert the force to energy to electricity and then using a electric motor back to a force, but rather the drive shaft or watever it’s called be directly connected to the parts that make the blade move. And with how small it is it wud be more efficient with that small size.

Oscillating steam engines have plenty of issues of their own to contend with! The main advantage is a compact form factor for a low center of gravity -- ideal for boats. If you wanted to go through the effort to make a larger version, there's no reason I can see to avoid a traditional crosshead and valving.

Probably not, because it does not move that fast, wear is very minimal, and the crank stroke is using its leverage against the stationary pivot. Could probably use a bearing on the flywheel side where it attaches to the connecting rod.
