PART 6: Making the led effects lamp project, how to make the custom rgb led matrix.
Custom design led matrix, this design is a fair bit of work but i have spent time testing different layouts and this produces the best effects i think.
Teensy 4.0 / "Staggered" 6 by 29, 174 WS2812B addressable RGB LED Strip Matrix.

►0.5mm Automotive Wire (I'm using heavier wire in the video as it's what i had at time of recording)

Is this better than arranging the strips lengthways along the pipe? It seems that would use less soldering and less cutting. I’m just curious as to why you chose to line them up crosswise. Great job though. Nice and neat :)

Hi Rachael Thanks for the question, i did try multiple longer strips during design testing but i found they tended to come loose after a while with prolonged use, I wanted to avoid gluing in place as it makes replacing a bad led very problematic. Using the across design the wiring itself offers additional holding strength to the strips around the tube and i never had any strips detach. That being said if i were to make an even taller version of this project i probably would revisit the strip direction design issue. Hope this helps 👍

why not just use 1 led strip and wrap it around it ? a lot less work and will give similar effect.

I spent a lot of time and effort trying different matrix layouts in this project including wrapped, my conclusion is this is the best matrix design for the fire effects.
