Listen to Malcolm X's Legendary Speech: "The Ballot or the Bullet" (Detroit, April 12, 1964)
On April 12, 1964, one month after splitting with the NOI, Malcolm X gave his "Ballot or the Bullet" speech at King Solomon Baptist Church in Detroit.
In the speech Malcolm X described how Blacks should fight for civil-rights in America. Malcolm X emphasizes the worth of voting as a solution to ending discrimination against Blacks. He addresses both the poor voting decisions and also the denial of legitimate voting rights to Blacks.

The reason they don't celebrate Malcom X like they do Martin Luther king is because he's ideas is still relevant till this day. He hit them where it hurts and they had nothing to counter him with but to assassinate him. In my eyes he will always be 1 of the greatest man ever and that's why we're all here watching this speech 50 years after he's death.

@@kennethcoram5650 you're wrong about that but you still make a point. Black communities just have to figure out how to become more self sufficient and self sustaining instead of being habitually subservient and subjective to the colonial status quo. Malcolm X made powerful points but still died by the hands of his own kind. We black people have to define and defend our own culture. We got Kwanzaa (from 12/26 to 1/1)- but most blacks would rather blindly celebrate Xmas (12/25) and New Year's Eve (12/31) alongside white America. We got Juneteenth (from 6/13 to 6/19)- but most blacks would rather celebrate America's Independence Day (The 4th of July) alongside white America. We have MLK Day reserved in honor of his birthday- but if those white folks and deadbeats around don't say anything about it then it's just another workday for most blacks. We have the entire month of February reserved for black history awareness. But most blacks only know what they were taught about specific iconic African Americans in a public school curriculum. Blacks who care are always the same ones preaching to the choir or just preaching. The best thing that our public servants can do for a black community is what? Lockup the lowlifes or drive away the degenerates? Force the deadbeat mother fuckers to take personal responsibility? How can elected officials make it easier for the little black schoolkids to dedicate themselves to developing a marketable skill or a craft; or learning a trade; or gaining a higher education that leads them to higher paying careers? Maybe, the politicans can enact a federal law (in all cases) that obligates us to help one another invest in our own wellbeing, welfare, and neighborhoods- via revising the segregation legislation that help decimate black townships with gentrification? What can a councilman really do for everyone in a single community without the approval from the council and then the mayor and the commissioner and governor? A Senator and District Representative have to appeal to their constituents- so what can they do for one individual black person that they can't do for the rest of demographics? Is it even possible to have an elected official who can ensure socioeconomic opportunities, growth, and development in a black community? Entrepreneurs and innovators are the people who bring in the economic opportunities.. but no one can force them to set up shop in an prosperity desert. And conservatives don't really support our federal government intervening in our system of free enterprise (the free market) on the behalf of a specific minority population. (That's why they hated the Obama Administration and rejected his policies; and as a result, that's reason why some blacks still feel like Obama's presidency was an empty gesture to black America. Then when you look at the cities with a majority black population- where you still see dysfunction, disparity, and poverty in certain parts of town- How can anyone blame systemic racism for black on black crimes? Some of the issues black Americans are facing today are more rooted in a subjugated mindset like a real life Willie Lynch Syndrome mixed with an Oedipus Complex. But that's exactly what I call out as just being dumbed down for domestication aka confirming to the colonizer bka indoctrinated individualists. It's all learned behavior (learned helplessness) through negligence; missed educational opportunities; and the submissiveness to the status quo; and the passive aggressive acceptance of being the recipient of an inferiority complex. (It's like being brainwashed by the buck breaking on a broke ship sinking). My point is that today's generations of African Americans are the only ones responsible for defining and defending our black culture. And culture is the family traditions and values we consciously share and pass on to our own children. (We went from our forebears' Civil Rights Movement to our Black Lives Matter Movement). But emotionally, we are still in an Empowerment Era. Spiritually, we're all going through a paradigm shift. We should be the ones establishing guidelines and paving the way for our own future generations- not placing their fates in the trust of others. Others will naturally put their own neck of the woods and their own best interests first. And so far, all they will ever logically offer us is a job making their millionaires richer while we get just enough crumbs to get by, thus, denying our children of generational wealth building resources. Personally, I think that black communities should take notice of other sophisticated minority groups in America like the Jewish communities who have a doctor and a lawyer in every family. But having social justice warriors and community activists in every black family is also essential and fundamental to establishing a strong foundation.

THE greatest MAN to ever walk this earth, period. He opposed the state, and the state put him on a stamp after he was fucking murdered BY the state. In the words of Pat The Bunny, "the one thing you can ever hope for if you never give up is that your enemies will teach your corpse to dance". Fuck the state. Fuck your laws. Fuck the government. I wish i didn't have to say these things, (or at least feel like i do) but i do. I have to because nothing has changed besides for the fact that the fire department doesn't sand- blast random (innocent and beautiful) black folks anymore. That's the cop's jobs now. They are only going to step on us more and more harshly as the years go by. If your ideal society (or even one that you are remotely comfortable with) is one where "fire" "fighters" fight fire now instead of innocent, intelligent black men/ women, then your ideals (or your sense of comfortability) is incredibly, disgustingly, unmistakably FLAWED. I will not be satisfied and i will not feel comfortable in this society (in this country) until black *people* are not murdered on the streets by the "people" who are supposed to serve THEM and the COMMUNITY. I won't be satisfied and comfortable until this abominable "war on drugs" and the "war on terror" are OVER, ENDED, and done with. There is no war on drugs, it's a war on personal freedom. There is no war against terror, we fueled the "terror". It's just an excuse to reap the recourses of western asia. Maybe it's time we get fucked over by another country instead of the other way around. Global acts of terror happen *every fucking day* in countries that we don't live in. In countries we'll never be to, that we'll never understand. Or even try to, unfortunately for most of us. Fuck cops. Fuck bosses. Fuck politicians. THIS is the *union*, that will "tear the fascists down (down, down)" Have a good day. Or at least try to :)

His work is eternal. Whether his words were spoken today or six decades ago are you following what he preached or you gasping is he at his audacity to stand up for what he believed in while you only admire his Works instead of continuing them? The Fight Continues but now it's a war on poverty if you're not wealthy you're not welcome this is no longer about One race or another we are all persecuted as one now. Racial ignorance is still perpetuated through news media social media just morons who have nothing to live for so they grasp at the lowest bars of humanity becoming the lowest form of intelligent life on this planet even animals know they need each other and they're all equal some just like us they hunt and eat meat we kill but we are the only species that kills for fun. Racism exist because not one United people will stand no race will defeat racism on its own but combined we are powerful we are the people.
@eddiegreg7064
@eddiegreg7064 5 років тому
I can't stress how his good works were not killed with him. What did he say? Leave your religion between you and your god, come together for a reason, a truth, righteousness amongst human beings, not divided by a debatable belief, but against that which is unconscionable to the very nature of life. The words him and so many others brought to life through time were not rested only in themselves, but all people. Racism exist through ignorance, arrogance, and entitlement. It's too easy to blame your sh🤬t choices on another person for any reason. We now are taught to hate Arabs because they're all terrorists, or get more when they come here, wasn't Jesus, Muhammad, western religions based on men from that region? I wish the men who had fortitude to lead had not perished at the hands of the weak and fearful, but their ideals live when we give them life. We can make it better.

How can you say it still applies? That’s false how can you say that? There are very many successful African American people. Back then everything was divided to a way that was insane we do not live like that today. Now grant it I know there our other areas in states that are worse then others and racism still exist because you have very shallow minded humans. But the country is not as bad as it was back then. African Americas can walk outside every day and do what they want correct? That’s for any human that lives In the United States. I mean I really think humans need to really wake up and see how other countries live and you would cherish your freedom even more

trueman mann because towards the end he started to become like Malcom after he knew he messed up (burning house). They talked all of the time and Martin realized Malcom was right. @Christopher Marlowe sorry, but from listening to the first 15 mins of this speech, how is black only communities and segregation going to help black people.... only support black businesses, only support black politicians, this sounds just as bad as the KKK supporting all white communities. And how exactly are black communities, which already are crappy and dirt broke as it is supposed to build self-sustaining communities if they don't have crap to work with in the first place. At least MLK acknowledged that in order for blacks to reach a platform where they can support themselves, they need to communicate instead of shutting its doors. I respect Malcolm X, and I understand his motivation and message, and I even heard he became more centric later on in his life, but this speech is bullshit. This spells a recipe in disaster. From what I can tell, Black only communites will stay poor, and white only communites will just keep getting richer, for they have control over resources. Good thing this philosophy was never implemented in our society.
