eh sometimes the business is in the wrong but refuse to admit it especially small businesses and spreading bad words of mouth is the customers only resource. this isnt a good example one that happened to me is a convenience store wouldnt let my grandmother in with her service dog who was wearing a vest clearly marked as such(she has a spinal injury and without that dog she will fall), we could sue them for that now but back then our only resource was to spread the word, that business doesnt exist anymore. so yea there are legitimate reasons to ask for a manager because employees can be karens too and you should give management the opportunity to change course before pursuing further action.

I once accidentally showed up way too early to meet my friends for lunch at a restaurant by our mall, so I decided to see a movie to pass the time. It was early afternoon on a Tuesday, so I was the only person seeing the movie, some horror movie. I'm sitting there chilling, I have the whole theater to myself and somehow I still managed to locate and sit in the seat I MYSELF HAD CHOSEN when buying my ticket - this asshole CHOSE his seat, if this was an AMC. I was about an hour into the movie when a strange man walked right into the empty theater and sat down directly beside me. It was dark and I was alone and I started feeling scared, so I went to find an employee and explained that the man hadn't done anything wrong, it was just really WEIRD that he'd walked into an empty theater showing a movie that had started an hour ago and sat down right next to the ONE other person sitting alone in a huge, empty theater. The employee went to speak to him, he hadn't even bought a ticket, but when the employee said they needed to call mall security he absolutely lost his shit and started screaming and flailing, and they called the cops who found zip ties and a screwdriver in his pockets before taking my statement. Those theater employees definitely saved my life, I hope this asshole loses his job and everything else he loves. It's the only way entitled people will learn.

Be nice to movie theater employees. We are underpaid, we are mistreated, we don’t set the prices, we don’t set the rules, and we don’t even get benefits besides free tickets. And most of our employees are teenagers or part time employees who work a second full time job. I’ve worked food industry, retail, and movie theater industry, and the worst people are movie theater customers. I’ve been spit on by a customer for having Pepsi products not coke, I’ve been shoved down by a customer when asking him to leave after he snuck into a theater, we’ve had a lady call an employee the N-word because we were sold out for the new Top Gun, I’ve been called a Nazi because I asked to see someone’s ticket because they were sitting in someone else’s seat, someone every few weeks purposely overflows the sinks/toilets just cause, I clean shit out of the urinals way more than the average person should have to in their lifetime, had customers harass employees on their way into work because we are busy and they don’t want to have to wait in line, the average general manager turnover is around 1 1/2 years because the pay and benefits are so little and can get paid more working as a Target employee. It’s crazy that people think incidents like this happen rarely at theaters, because customers see a movie once every month maybe longer, but the situation in this video happens at my theater atleast once every few weeks and can happen almost daily during peak seasons like around Christmas. If you’re a movie theater employee I’d love to read your experiences below so everyone can see the shit we go through.

I think the the employees were respectful and kept their cool and did a great job at trying to stop the situation from escalating - they resolved it without the cops which is a major plus! These videos always bring me down a bit and I wanted to explain why for my own mental benefit. (I only realized this is a months old video after writing everything lol) I've worked in customer service for 20 years (finally getting out of it) and as many of the commenters mentioned, it wasn't even that bad. There's a few ways to handle a situation like this without losing your head. Some people are naturally good at keeping cool. Some people just sorta tune out their emotions - put on a hard mask to do their work with a smile. I can say that trying to not be yourself in this kind of work will eat you from the inside out. My advice to anyone trying to work in customer service is to have empathy for everyone you interact with - without exception. This isn't to say you should allow people to do bad things but these situations are often (not always) born from a person's self-image being threatened by strangers in a place they assumed was safe. This is not an easy thing to do. Some people try to imagine a relatable backstory that brought this person to this point. Others imagine themselves in the same spot. I don't know if the employee tried to talk to guy first or if he was just told, 'You have to move,' the interaction seemed informal and cold. It is technically respectful to say 'Sorry' and 'Sir' but it comes off impersonal - people react negatively when challenged in this way. I would of introduced myself, my position in the theater (Especially as a part-timer, "I'm a 20 hour part time worker" ), asked for his name, and explained the situation. Then I would have asked him for a favour - if he protested, I'd try a different way, even offer him a drink/snack from the concession. That could fail - and it does- but most of the time, it works and usually makes their day better. Yes, he was in the wrong. Yes he was being insufferable and rude and disrespectful to others. Just because he was does not give me justification to do the same to him. At the end of the day, I would rather someone do something kind for this person to resolve the situation quickly so everyone could have a great day than have it escalate and potentially ruin everyone in the theater's time. I don't know what is going on in his life - might be nothing - but I would rather not contribute to it being worse.

I worked in a movie theater in high school, way before pre-selecting your seat was even a vague concept. Nothing like being a teenager trying to ask grown men (it was ALWAYS the men in the group who got pissy) to scoot over a seat or two to make room for others in a sold-out show. Yeah, no one likes to sit that close to strangers, but bugging out on a kid makes you an a-hole.
