Swedish resident Leif Gisslen rescued a moose that got stuck on a swing on a tree in the town of Vindo, Stockholm County, Sweden.
Gisslen told Storyful he went on his usual morning walk around his small town when he noticed the moose in distress. He walked gently towards the moose and saw it was stuck on the ropes of a swing attached to a tree.
The moose tried to get loose by moving wildly around, and Gisslen tried to soothe the animal before he went to his neighbor’s home in search of a bar to cut the swing ropes. The neighbor gave him the bar and followed Gisslen back to the moose, where he filmed the second video on Gisslen’s phone.
Gisslen then used the bar to free the animal and after about 20 minutes, it was released. Gisslen estimated the animal to be about two years old with a weight of 200 kg.

I will concede that some animals have certain emotions but they do not possess the full range of human emotion. Some feel compassion and sympathy but dogs for example do not feel guilt, we read that into their expression, that's anthropomophrizing. Dolphins, elephants, dogs and even rats do have some emotions but not the full gamut of human feeling. This moose is not feeling gratitude nor do I think it recognizes help.

Here's a bit of trivia: this species is only called moose in the USA and Canada. In much of the world it's called elk, älg, Elch, etc. The confusion comes from early English colonists to North America seeing the wapiti (Cervus canadensis) for the first time, and giving it a name for large deer that they already knew: "elk." Then, when they saw the actual elk, that name was already taken so they used the Algonquian-language derived name "moose."

Many decades ago, I was riding in northern Wisconsin on a small county road through the woods with my grandparents. My grandpa was Swedish, and started working as a lumberjack away from home at 13, then was a fireman on steam engine, and ended up fixing furnaces and boilers. He bought 40 acres at a government auction for $10/acre, and then built a year-around cabin with his bare hands and whatever building supplies he could beg, borrow or steal. He'd buy damaged material and warped lumber for cheap, and would find a way to make it work. Anyway, as we were taking a little drive in the middle of nowhere (this was the early 60's, and I was maybe 9), we came across a giant buck that had leaped over an old barbed-wire fence and gotten his hind leg twisted in the wire. My grandfather could not stand for an animal to suffer, so he pulled over immediately and got the big wire-cutters out of his toolbox in the trunk. Grandma started silently praying, and I was a quiet witness. The buck kept dramatically leaping to get free, and any kick from the rear legs could have seriously injured my grandpa. He spoke gently and quietly to the deer, and was able to cut the wire and the buck leaped free. My grandparents unfailingly did the right thing, and faced any adversity or challenge with profound dignity and courage. I thank God every day for the hardworking people who raised me. I will never forget them, and try to honor them in any way I can.

Serega, animals...human are animals too according to biology. And As I can see your knowledge on last 20 years of research of non human animals cognition is non existent. Your views are from Middle Ages.

In the state of Maine, that's called dinner, December-March. Moose burgers, moose loaf, mooseballs, moose croquettes, moose casserole, moose shepherd's pie, moose chili, moose tips, smoked moose, BBQ moose, moose ribs, leg of moose, moose stroganoff, moose stew, moose mignon - the possibilities are endless!

Sweden eats the most moose meat per capita in the world. And at least top 3 in long rifle ownership. Sweden have the highest density of moose in any nation. It doesn't look like hunting season so that is a good reason not to shoot it even if you could lawfully justify it because the animal is stuck. it is unsportsly to shoot a traped animal and unfair to other hunters who wanted a shoot at it in season.

Wow! Amazing, extremely brave, kind man!!👍 The opposite of hunters in every way, yet hunters congratulate and proudly slap each other on back for shooting a moose like a mighty accomplishment. Thank you sir, a real man.

You can tell he finally realized the guy was trying to help him. He even moved forward a bit. But poor thing hurt his back leg i think.

Cat G .....think that back left leg was just being "cocked" to kick out at a perceived threat. Have seen horses do the same when dogs are around

I watched him gallop away several times, seemed like he was pushing off very well. His massive 1,000+ lbs.(?) body disappeared into the forest scary quick. I’m not sure what I would have done in that situation, but I don’t believe I would have done that. Kudos to that brave and resourceful man. Moose are large, strong, ornery, ill tempered creatures capable of destruction without reason. I think they’re magnificent, but I’ll keep my distance.

Risking life and limb, no pun intended. Moose are very aggressive and deadly, and don't know that you are trying to help them. It's called fear attack, notice how he was hugging the tree like his life depended on it. That's because it did.
