The Wild West Extravaganza

The Wild West Extravaganza

Місяць тому

In the spring of 1805, the Lewis and Clark expedition departed from the Mandan and followed the Missouri River west into Montana. They would need to cross the Rocky Mountains before the snow began to fall, and to that, they would need to find the Shoshone. Also discussed are the hunting on the upper Missouri, the portage of the Great Falls, and a fortunate encounter with the Nez Perce. This is part 3 in the Lewis and Clark series; links below for the previous two installments. #wildwest #history #western

I've been thinking of doing the same. To be honest, the pain is the only thing holding me back. How bad does it hurt? I've had numerous teeth pulled on several different occasions, but the most at one time was 4. Part of me feels like I'm psyching myself out

@Clint52279
@Clint52279 28 днів тому
Lol! I just had to have my uppers pulled! I have an appointment on the 1st to get my dentures going. I was hurting that first day, albeit, the pain was more of a dull ache rather than the sharp pain of a toothache. I, honestly remember feeling more depressed and drained. Emotionally and physically. Waking up after with my motuh full of gauze and, frankly, feeling mutilated, was a lot to be hit with. Then I started bawling. I was apprehensive (of course, who wouldn't be?) and didn't sleep the night before. The combination of all things, including the anathesia ( which hit me hard and I've gone under plenty of times) evaporated any notion of stoicism. I was assured by staff that it was the meds causing the emotional stress. I spent the rest of the day sleeping off the meds, and the day after figuring out what I could eat. Fried eggs and grits to the rescue! Dr. told me I'd be surprised what I could manage and he was right. I'm not getting too adventurous though. So, the pain is rough, but not the worst, and very manageable with pain meds. A sore jaw and swelling is where i am now about two weeks on. Make sure your after care support is briefed on the possibility you'll be a blubbering mess and zero stress the day or two after helps a lot too.

I often resemble your remarks at the beginning of this post, about imagining experiencing life in frontier times void of the accompaniments of civilization. I have been , undeservedly, fortunate and blessed to have spent countless hours and miles on horseback, in the vast, sparsely populated, desert and mountains of Texas, mostly West of the Pecos River, over the last 40+ yrs. I wouldn't trade a minute of those times for a pile of gold. Of course, that is still a very far cry from the daily life experiences of the native peoples and pioneers ,etc. , from the period of history in North America. I appreciate your contributions to preserving the stories of those people and experiences unique to that time and place in history.

I like this series, a lot of stuff happened that they don't teach in school. Between the std's, mosquito bites, the 100 lashes for the guy's who bailed, and all the danger of guarding the guns and whisky from the Indians, think any of them were lucky to have survived. They could make a heck of a good movie about this, but nope, just the same old garbage. Thanks for all the good research, these podcasts are great. G-d bless.

I live in Idaho. And as a longhaul truck driver have traveled much of their route. Hwy 12 over LoLol specifically. The animals were pushed into the mountains as described, but modern farming also came to those mountains. Huge wheat farms took over where the trees were logged out. But much timber remains and is replanted. Between the fields and the heavy cover, the country is more than plentiful with both whitetail and mule deer, elk, turkey, cats, and black bear. I don't believe there's been any sightings of grizzly along 12 but they do reside in and around Glacier park.

It truly inspires awe to think about being a part of this expedition. Exploring this part of the world was like walking on the moon. I think men find this story so interesting because we have this intoxicating emotion within us of brotherhood, adventure, and overcoming hard times only to come out victorious in the end with our brothers. Not to mention the beauty they saw. It must have been like the garden of eden.

Another great subject is the Astor expedition. Check this story out.... A Hawaiian was "Shanghaied" from the Sandwich islands on board the Tonquin. Captain Thorne was a total doosh. He sent him and a few others out to "sound" the entrance to the Columbia. It was a death sentence. Sure enough the tiny boat capsized. The Hawaiian swam about three miles in frigid water to the northern shore, now the state of Warshington. He ended up assimilating with the Local Chinooks and lived out his life there. Today the beach he made it to is called Waikiki beach. You cant make this stuff up. This story alone deserves an episode. Thanks for the great content! I listen to all your vids while working here on the Columbia river.

It’s was the gunsmith who was attacked by the grizzly. They named the spot after him. Alexander Hamilton Willard, last surviving member of the expedition was laid to rest in Franklin California, 1865. He is my 6th great grandfather. One aspect of the expedition often overlooked was Willard’s contribution as a blacksmith. His metal working fascinated the Native Tribes where trading metal goods for food goods was like trading gold.

I like to make fun of other places. I’d have said the same thing about people speaking English in Arkansas. It just amuses me.

I worked at a homeless shelter for teens , we had a service that provided teens with sex education, STD ‘s are diseases you don’t get rid of like Herpes, HPV , STI’s are infections like Gonorrhea , Syphilis , That are treated and you no longer have unless infected again.. That’s the difference in the Titles.. ijs … 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 Just a little FYI … Great show .. enjoy content ..
