I don't know if she's singing about herself or just speculating about people who prefer solitude but I can relate to this song. I was a hermit according to my sister until I met my wife when I was in my early 30's. We were married for 31 years and last summer passed suddenly from cancer. Now I'm a loner again. I have grown children but its not the same thing. I expect I will die alone but I can't complain. I lived most of my life in love and no one can take it away from me.

She is not "underrated", she is an authentic singer who makes music for those who really need it. Anyone who needs her music will find her. She is not a mainstream product making generic songs to make money for a record company. Not that there's anything wrong with mainstream music, but that's the difference.

To be completely honest, Marina is making music for the soul...not only for your ears. I swear this song is what I would show my family if they would like to understand me at some point.

I’m,,,I’m not alone and as a matter a fact, I try to reach out, but “I’m sick of it all” and no one really listens. As a chronically ill, disabled artist,,,this song struck with me. “I wanna give it up” is incredibly accurate. I’m only 20.

The best music is not made for the audience, but rather for the artist. That’s what makes it authentic. The artist can only hope that the audience connects with it. I certainly do.

For all the songs praising the endeavor of finding that significant other, sometimes its nice to have a song that extolls the virtues of being independent enough to be alone. Solitude is underrated, and people who choose that life should not be ostracized, or made to feel inferior, just because others find a lack of company unbearable. As someone who recently discovered that I'm a Highly Sensitive Person, this song have really taken a completely different turn and meaning to me. Now I understand the true meaning of the lyrics in a very deep level and I feel 700% represented by all of the words here. Other songs like "Highly Emotional People" and "Soft To Be Strong" have also resonated with me in a whole different level. The funny thing is, that I already felt kind of a connection to these songs at the time they came out but never understood why, now everything makes fucking sense. Now I just can cry of happiness and feel that heavy bag full of guilt that I've been wearing mostly my entire life floating away, liberating me. I'm finally at peace with myself.

As an INFJ I really feel the line about carrying the weight of the emotions of those around me. My alone time is very important to me. It’s a time where I can breathe. I can process my thoughts and emotions, sort out which are mine and which I picked up from other people. It also give me the recharge I need to work in a job that I love, in special education.

At first I was more drawn to the singles (Venus Fly Trap, ADIAML, Purge the Poison) but then slowly the other songs grew on me so much, especially Flowers and I Love You But I Love Me More (because of stuff I've been thru), and now this piece Happy Loner, you talk about stuff I can never really put into words, thoughts and ideas that I relate to but didn't know I did. Maybe its not gonna be mainstream or understood by everyone because its not the usual stuff songs talk about, but to me, and I'm sure to others, the songs have a very special meaning. This song, since first hearing, always felt so personal to me and after seeing the video it feels like such a strange representation of my life. This song to me always read as a cry for help due to depression while also being in denial about it. Knowing that something is wrong but being so incapacitated or used to it to be able to do anything about it. The music video also remind me of how I feel with my maladaptive daydreaming. I feel gray and empty but the imaginary world in my mind gives me solace and the world color. Everything combined just makes me feel seen in my struggle and pain. Thank you Marina.
