We were just sewing dresses and sundresses for the summer when the time suddenly came to switch to making warm clothes. More precisely, for now we need demi-season items, although the weather this year is spoiling, the weather is hot all September, like in summer.
But we know that at any moment everything can change and the cold will come sharply. Hats are an important part of the fall wardrobe.
Berets have been at the peak of popularity for many years, probably because this accessory looks graceful, elegant and has a French chic feel. Modern models are no different from those worn several decades ago. Perhaps the decor has been added and the quality of the fabrics has changed, but the classic felt, drape, and astrakhan fur remain the same.
To make a beret suitable for the off-season, you need thin wool or wool blend fabric. Lining is required. The beret can consist of wedges or is sewn from a circle; today I have the latter option.
Before starting work, you need to measure the circumference of your head. This measurement is measured in a circle - along the line of the forehead and the most protruding point of the back of the head.
Next, two circles with a diameter of 30 cm are cut. In one circle, you need to cut a smaller circle in the center.
To get the radius of this circle, you need to use the formula R=OG:2 pi.
Where OG is head circumference (56 CM), pi is a constant value of 3.14.
R= 56: (2x3.14) =8.9. Round R = 9 cm.
1) Cut out a circle with a diameter of 9 cm, leaving a side 6 cm wide.
2) We cut exactly the same parts from lining fabric.
3) For the strap, cut out a strip 56 x 5 cm. You can take a knitted elastic band, the easiest way is to measure its length on yourself, in this case it will stretch a little and will be less than 56 cm.
Assembly
- I connected the two parts of the beret with the right sides facing inward and stitched in a circle. I smoothed the seams and laid two lines.
- I closed the elastic into a ring and stitched it, then folded it in half and stitched it to the main part. To do this, I made 4 marks at the same distance from each other, then combined them.
- I sewed the lining in the same way.
- I connected the parts right sides together and stitched, leaving room for turning.
- I turned the beret inside out and sewed up the hole by hand.
Fitting.
It doesn’t matter which side you wear the beret on; it all depends on personal preference.
