I made the 30 man kumite when I was 20 years old. Now I'm 52. When I finished those fights I needed to get out to fresh air because I was breathing with an abnormal loud sound. It took me 20-30 minutes to go back to normal breathing. It's not like an average cardio or running. Much more different. Plus during fights you cannot breath normally because your abdominals are almost continually contracted or semi contracted because you are expecting for a hit or a kick anytime. You lack oxygen. I'm telling you guys, this is a very tough test. Good old kyokushin days. OSU!

Reading this, it just seems to me that professional boxing training with the full spectrum of training would bring the reality of fitness to martial arts. Or PKA kickboxing. Please let me know what you think. Thank you!

@@berylrosenberg704 Fighting it's a too complex thing and are too many situations out there. It can be a real fight in the street or in a pub, or can be a sport featured fight with different rules. Somebody can be a professional fighter to entertain the public, you name it. There is no such thing like "this is the best, the most effective fight style". It's all about the situation and the very moment of one's capabilities. And even those with the best capabilities can have a bad day. But if you ask me, one of the most effective fighting styles are the so called mixed martial arts in which with the grappling techniques you can take down your opponent on the ground and beat the guy, win the fight down there on the floor. It can work well even if there is a significant weight difference. And again it's also about different rules. In the street I would suggest, if it's possible just run away and get home safe to your family, to your kids. Peace!

The thing that may not be clear to non-Kyokushinkai-kan students is that usually the 20--100man kumites often have the fighters arranged by rank/skill so each fight gets progressively harder not only in energy reserve management, but in opponent difficulty as well. Normally you might be easily on-par or better with some of the fighters but since you've already fought 5-10 rounds continuously that advantage quickly evaporates. When you start gassing out its hard not to be worried, but then you get kicked in the head and you get a rush of epinephrine and find more within you to keep going, Since these tests usually occur amongst other karateka it's generally not quiet in the dojo as your fellow students are yelling at you to fight harder or offering tips. It's probably the sort of sensation that marathon runners get when they cross the finish line. It was grueling AF but so rewarding on a personal level, and you can reflect on that while you ice your shins and clean the blood off your knuckles. I can't train anymore, (injuries), but god I miss it. Osu!

Whats interesting about him is that he has the flexibility of a taekwondo fighter. He also looks very relax and fluid in his movement. No wonder Oyama chose him as a successor of the original organisation.

As a shotokan karate practitioner, I highly respect Kyokushin fighters. This is a true test of survival, endurance and true spirit. It's not about 'winning' or 'losing' in the 70's when my sensei was a teenager, he fought like this too.All his Shotokan classes were full contact but you have to carry on and never give up. THAT is the true winner.

Gotta love all of these internet martial arts gurus in this thread. For those of you who don't think this is very intense, or for those who are saying, "well, they don't look like they are fighting very hard". Here is a challenge for you. Find a room of 40 people. Ask all of these people to get in a line to give you one hard leg kick without blocking, and one hard body punch. Now take that pain times a minimum of 50 and that's what this guy is going through.

This guy is so clearly levels above all of his opponents. They all have the same belt, but there really is no comparison. It's impressive to watch. His entire style seems different than everyone else even though it technically isn't. They seem more constrained to fundamentals (like they understand the pieces but not really how to put them all together into a cohesive method of attack) while he is more fluid and creative. I think the only thing missing from his game is the feint.

Technically, any two karatekas of the same belt rank would share the same knowledge. But there is a difference between knowledge and experience. Back in the day, there were some karatekas in the Kyokushin dojo I trained at that were also training on the side for very specific things: full-contact competitions or special breaking (tamashiwari) tests, for exemple. One black belt was even making a side career of being a professional kick-boxer. So as a young blue belt with no particular skillset or special training, when I was sparring with these guys, I pretty much felt like the fighters in this video who had to fight Matsui!
@spartanical
@spartanical Рік тому
@@dartharaneus67 not quite true. multiple factors come into play when discerning the "knowledge" and capabilities of an individual. intellect, ability to conceptualize, intuition, ability to internalize what is observed or conveyed, the bridge between the conscious and subconscious mind, etc... are all factors that can create a chasm in knowledge and capability between two otherwise equally trained individuals. that's why people like Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Roger Federer and others like them can exist. they possess intangibles that set them far apart from their peers.

He's fuckingly good at turning low kicks into leg sweeps. Pretty nice. Also, his leg technique is impressive: his medium and high kicks are swifter and more accurate than 99% of kyokushin fighters i've previously seen. Even the punches he delivers are sometimes executed by spinning your body into it, like in shotokan. I have great respect for that man, he's an impressive fighter and a humble martial arts practitioner. Of course the first opponents are less skilled and less aggressive, i suppose it's obvious when you have to face 40 of them in a row. Kyokushin fighters of recent days seems to emphasize less on technique than back in the days.

I've been studying this, and watch in slow motion what he does; he has all of these little subtle feints that keep the other guy looking one way while he attacks from another. Masterful fighter. I'm not so sure that all of the feints are deliberate though. It seems in some cases like he intended to attack but decided against it and then capitalized on an opening that appeared. In other cases it seems like he feints deliberately.

Mostly because many of the martial artists know they will want the same when they do the same. Clearly many of these bkack belts esp #7 couldve been devastatingly effective.
