@chrisredfield62742 роки тому
Very true. Even though he fell from the top, his story from the bottom to dethroning the P4P Aldo is STILL one of the greatest stories ever told in MMA. It was a true phenomenon and I watched the Aldo fight live. I remember, I was at Fiesta Cantina in West Hollywood, California. The whole place erupted.
@user-nv2wt4hi8t2 роки тому
@@chrisredfield6274 Plus the speed and certainty of his rise. How he went from joining the UFC in 2013 with a 'Who the fuck is Jose Aldo, man I would fight that guy in a heartbeat, I'd fight any of them in a heartbeat' attitude to killing the entire featherweight division and assassinating Aldo just two years later by 2015, not forgetting his injuries/recovery time and the switch from Aldo to Mendes after a world tour of build up. People forget how he beat Max Holloway with an injury, was determined to both come back quicker and better than anyone after said injury, how he immediately accepted Mendes with no ifs or buts as long as a belt was up for grabs and how he, with no excuses, continued training and took Mendes out despite another injury. The guy made sure he was getting that belt and no one can fault him for how flawlessly he both predicted and executed it.

If prime Anderson is one of the GOATS then prime Conor (regardless of no title defences), fighting at 3 weights, beating interim champ contenders like Mendes on 2 weeks notice with a torn ACL, KO'ing Aldo in 13 seconds with one punch, dismantling with absolute ease, the same Alvarez who went on to destroy RDA in one round, collapse Gaethje and give Poirier two close battles (before the 1st one's DQ), is 100% a GOAT.

Conor literally changed the game forever. I think the change in Connor happened before, during and after the loss to Khabib, something during that whole time period switched in Connor. That shift from a funny, determined hype machine in to a vicious, unprofessional and meaner character. When I say unprofessional I mean his attitude with law enforcement, fighting outside the octagon and partying like a mad man. But for me I can't blame a man starting at net zero, working so fucking hard at Jui Jitzu and MMA and becoming a legend in the UFC whilst racking up millions of dollars in the process. Its almost impossible to stay undefeated when you fight the best of the best and go up and down weightclasses. He has been an elite fighter since he got to the ufc dont take away from his skills just because of a loss or two. I hate casual fans who think a loss or a win changes a fighters past. nothing but respect to aldo
@niharshastri35193 роки тому
I honestly thought prime aldo ended at the chan sun Jung fight. He broke something in his leg or tore it, I cant remember and he stopped throwing leg kicks like he used to. Aldos leg kicks were brutal in his prime and tore up his opponents legs. At that point he slowly started declining but still beat Lama and Mendes again. Unlucky but conor still beat a good aldo. I think your prime is when you perform the best and that injury in that Jung fight literally made him not throw leg kicks anymore and now he doesn't throw em at all.

I really hope that McGregor's loss to Poirier allows to him to get back to how he was in this era. The banter, the cheekiness is what makes him entertaining out of the cage and it's what made Aldo overreach and lose the fight.
@haza62633 роки тому
But dude conor was able to do that before because he had this certain cloak of invincibility about himself, all that comedic trash talk wouldn't do half as much damage back as opponents will now be able to use conors weaknesses and recent defeats to undermine his confidence and level the playing field psychologically, i think its fair to say we won't be seeing this mcgregor for a while
@shindavid64843 роки тому
@@haza6263 he's just changed as a man. a bit more respect doesn't hurt honestly. he just had a bad case of ring rust against the best fighter in the division, and all he needs to do is to get up and fight. He was so fast so laser focused and we saw the most beautiful counter striking like ever it was magical i mean eddie won against gaethje not even a year later he was a top top level fighter but a conor that motivated made him look like an amateur. Even in Eddies post fight interview he described it perfectly: 'the first time i remember being on my butt I was like damn this was fast, whatever that was it was fast'. You could see it in Aldo that he could feel the wind of change in the air all throughout the entire campaign all the way up to the fight. He reigned for a long time and as he took the belt from someone, so will they from McGregor and so the cycle repeats itself among all kings. McGregor got in his head, but it was attached to the fact that it could feel the end of his era in his soul. To me what counted is that he utlimately stayed humble> I think that's where the real test is. I also think that McGregor lured him into doing excatly what he wanted him to do. Plunge at him with rage and then get caught. Aldo should have spent more time sqauring him up and feeling his movements out. Though McGregor made a historical record with the knockout, it takes no respect from Aldo. It just highlights the genius of McGregor.
