I'm drn and this is our fifth game in this week's tournament, we're going up against Cody once again. He's the Tank+Boat master, let's see if we've learned anything since last time we met!
Anything you think I've done wrong or could do better please let me know, I'm always looking to improve both my gameplay and the video quality. Thanks again for watching!

Since recording this Sabertooth tanks have been buffed three times: HP increased by 3% (from 14814 to 15258) ATK increased by 10% (from 4959 to 5455) Attack Interval decreased by 15% (from 3.5 sec to 3.0 sec) It's safe to say they were truly terrible at the time of recording this, having gained approximated 25% more damage overall (15% atk speed + 10% damage). They're in a much better spot right now! Hope you can still appreciate my video and understand my opinions given are always a product of the patch I'm recording on.

I've only used it once, as a level 8. It basically tanked the whole flank for me, which was a couple overlords fangs and those gattlinggun spider things. That being said, anything is good when it's that high level!

Yeah level 8 of anything remotely tanky can defo become an immovable object, especially when it has a regen tech!

From what i can see Sabretooths are a short range long reload glass cannon with a support upgrade. Not enough HP to tank, not enough reload to kill any chaff, short range means fighting alongside the chaff, and whatever they do shoot at is massive wasted overkill. You were talking about anti air, so out of the two new units the Typhoon more "in line" pick, not sure if better because you knew overlords were coming and they are better vs the tiny models, but between you getting a pair of models per unit and it having the dome shield upgrade, it could have saved you from the 400 you spent on shields later to just buy more of a unit you already could have a tech on. Hindsight is 20/20 and all that, overall a good game. As for last video, showing off your skills never makes you a bad person, you were not smug or putting down your opponent. It was all in good fun and you would rather them come back stronger so next you fight, its more of a challenge. More back and forth, a proper war with give and take. Thanks for the well thought response as always. Yeah, I still don't really see what the Sabertooth really offers outside of mediocre anti-missile for the rather steep price of having to run Sabertooths in your build! Think I was overhyped for a Mammoth Tank and just sad these feel more like 60% of the power of a Sledgehammer unit. Maybe it's more that Sledgehammer and Scorpions are so strong in their respective roles that anything trying to compete with them has to be absolutely stellar to really get a look in. Don't really think Typhoon would've been a viable choice either in truth. Think the best pick here would've been the Phoenixes, good vs both the Sledgehammer and the inevitable Overlords and able to go toe-to-toe in the mirror match. Good luck with Sledgehammers of you own and may your enemies pick the Sabertooth, haha!

Glad I can share a bit of what it feels like! I've played against most top of the ladder players and spectated enough know a lot of their personal preferences and styles. Helps sometimes but knowing they've beaten you a couple times before can be tough on the mental!

Would be kinda broken that a 200cost unit to counter a 400cost unit while still dealing dmg.

They aren’t even very good at missle defense unless you invest 1200 supplies worth of units plus the tech

@@redgaarden8101they only shoot missles, unlike mustangs, when they shoot missles they don’t shoot ground units. The balance is fine, they need to be better at what they do 🤣

Giving them built in double shot seems like it might help a little bit, and they have two barrels… at least then they’d do better against things with shields, but there aren’t that many of those. Just doubling rate of fire would probably help a lot, even if damage per shot needed to be reduced

What a lot of people still don't seem to realize, is that Sabertooth often needs range upgrade. It has great single target damage and isn't all that tanky. Because Sabertooth is like a glass canon they need more range to be good.

Agreed but I also think that's an indication that the unit itself is underpowered. A bit like how Mustangs pretty much always need Range to become a reliable dps that doesn't commit sudoku. Surely the unit itself could have a bit more power built in rather than relying on committing to a particular tech each and every game. Think +5 Range would fit, it's bigger and taller than other tanks and it's model is already larger so enemies can engage it sooner, giving a touch more Range would both improve it's damage dealing role and aid in survival.

Sabertooths are great in bulk acting as super chaff with the anti boat tech and regen they can really get some mileage stalling the enemies board atleast in my experience. I love them and pick them everytime i see them

That's cool, hadn't really thought about them as chaff tbh. Think they'd struggle in that role vs high dps units like Boats that can blow them up pretty quick?

In bulk 4-5 sabertooths can shutdown roughly up too six or seven volleys before missiles start slipping through and that's why board variety and synergy matter. Boats and storms can't kill your fangs crawls or sledge's if they can't hit them.

I think sabertooths in their current form need a few buffs. Fire rate is desperately lacking, and they need one of two things along with that: 1. They need built in heavy armor so they can take the punishment of being 'uberchaf' 2. They need slightly more range so they can be the anti-sledge. Depends which role the devs actually want for them because it's honestly not well defined.

On the plus side, flame badgers are really strong. I just played against a guy who used intensive+skill to get one set of badgers to level 8 with regen, and they wiped my entire board. I almost always pick them up if the enemy has any chaff.

Okay, I tried them a few times in the weekend just after they came out and they were struggling to even kill Crawlers so I ditched them pretty quick! Presume the buff last Thursday helped them improve in their intended role?

Mistake was picking up double techs on TWO marksmen when you couldn't clear his massive line of sledgies. Tons of wasted econ there, and it was so early too. Sabers were a bad pickup, the phx pick was a no brainer cuz they were good against all those unit cards, but you probably could have recovered from that. But like you said, experimenting and learning

Yeah lots of mistakes here, was annoyed at myself after the game - really could've and should've played better but lessons learned and fun was had either way. Just hope next time I can put up more of a fight!

Anti-missiles works against overlords but you need about two sabertooths per overlord. Until they get launcher overload :(

I feel like taking Fangs in round four was an odd choice. With 6 units of tanks on your opponent's side they were walking into a meat grinder.

Edit: Long comment below explaining my line in some detail. TL:DR Was trying to buy time for our Sabertooths to kill tanks but put the Fangs behind the tanks stupidly far back. _______________ Thanks for the comment, can defo see where you're coming from! You're not wrong - their positioning was atrocious, the Fangs should have been in front of our tanks not behind to make a difference and fill their role as expendable shields for the Sabertooths. Fundamentally it's not wrong to buy more chaff to slow down your opponent's carries from getting onto your own chaff clear units, even if you know they will die, that's what chaff is there for. I'll walk you through my thinking step by step, sorry it will be quite long! Remember - I'm not perfect and everything I say can be wrong or can change depending on the situation; what I'm expecting our opponent to do as their win condition or what I want to do myself for our own win condition. In essence if your opponent has better chaff clear like Cody did here we can either concede the ground battle and take to the skies or try and stay in the fight with better quality chaff like the shielded Fangs should've been for us if I'd positioned them better. If we gave up on buying chaff because he had strong chaff clear then we concede the chaff battle, unleashing both his chaff and chaff clear units to become carries unto themselves and we lose the game pretty quickly. So we have to contest the tanks somehow, this game we've gone Sabertooth as our Anti-tank unit as an experiment and because they are okay at killing Sledgehammers we just need to buy them the time to do so. For the amount of chaff (Crawlers) Cody was presenting we had adequate chaff clear ourselves with two sets of Sledgehammers but with the six sets of tanks he was playing, and knowing he was going to be taking Mechanical Rage, we knew his tank line was about to become a carry and threaten to end the game. We had 800 gold to spend this turn. To counter tanks I would normally go Scorpion, but they overlap a lot with Sabertooth tanks and they're very weak into Phoenix and Overlord both of which are carry units I'm expecting Cody to try and win through. Again something which our Sabertooth tanks are also weak to so we can't afford to spend even more money on a valuable unit that will already be hard countered in the coming turns. We can't afford Fortresses in sufficient quantities to contest the ground battle before they die to his aerial units and if we go Overlord or Phoenix ourselves with inadequate chaff or chaff clear then we will lose the exchange because his carries can hit ours before we've cleared his front line. So instead I circle round to trying to buy more time for the anti-tank Sabertooths to work to do their job and kill his tanks. So I bought extra chaff, Fangs, and gave them shields to buy double the time they would normally give for the Sabertooths to fight from behind. But sadly I positioned them badly, really badly! Hope that helps you follow my line of reasoning and play. Sorry if I'm giving too much detail or not enough detail in my answer. It's a hard things to explain in a concise way but the easiest explanation I can think of is that you need a balance of Chaff, Chaff-clear, Anti-air and Giant Killers (carries) and depending on how much of each of those your opponent plays you'll need different amounts of each one yourself. Here we didn't needed an answer to his tanks, we already had one on the board, I just failed to protect it adequately! (Plus Sabertooths are terrible! :D )

Cheers dude, I'm not sure what Sabertooths really do in the game right now. Their anti-missile is terribly unreliable, their dps underwhelming and they really aren't very tanky as a 'heavy' tank.

Think if they give us two tanks per unit then it'd need toning down in stats quite a lot and then it'll overlap the basic Sledgehammer too much and lack it's own distinct identity. Right now Scorpions are probably too strong which is what's pushing Sabertooth out of the frame. We'll see what the devs do in future balance passes though!

I haven’t found a good use for sabertooths. Even their middle defense is underwhelming compared to just buying the air defense building. They wanna be scorpions but don’t have range or damage. Then they also wanna be scorpions and be a tankier unit, but it doesn’t do either well at all

Yeah that's pretty much my exact experience. Sabertooth tanks feel like dollar store Scorpions that lack the range, damage and tankiness of their bigger scarier brethren. Watch out for tomorrow's video though - spoilers - Sabertooth tanks get a chance to shine :D

Yeah, just feels tough. My best success with them has been pairing them in ground of 3x Sabertooths with 1x Arclight behind the middle Saber and going Range with or without Regen or Anti-missile as 2ndry. Arclight helps clear the chaff fast, then the Saber can start punching up onto tougher targets that the Arcs struggle with. Still feels weak though, think the Saber could use a faster base rate of fire if they've taken the Launcher Overload upgrade off of it.

@@Drone_101 Have you tried Desert Strike ? It is a mod available in Starcraft II. It is the same kind as Mechabellum except, it is SCII units. :D Otherwise, since I do not know what you like (probably RTS), I do not know what to suggest to you.

I was big into minion masters. Great game. It's free to play and just a lot of fun. No need to buy anything. Once u get all of the cards there's a lot of fun building unbalanced decks and such. I played that till I found mechabellum.
