He already feels like his last life is over and the only reason to live is to kill vicious. he doesn't want to die really but he doesn't want to continue living without Julia either. He's meeting his past head on, and instead of marching towards death and a suicide mission, he sees it as a necessary part of his story. He's thinking about what Jet told him.. "Men only think of their past right before their death, as if they were searching frantically for proof that they were alive." By saying what he said to Faye, Spike understand this fate and accepts it blindly. He smiles before he bleeds out because he can finally confront the idea of being truly alive. The entire series feels like a dream to us and spike but in the end at least he gets to finally see that he was alive the entire time.

I'm 35. I watched the Series at least 3 times. The song "Rain" still get's me every time. The one with the female singer. I donT know if anyone in my family or of my friends will understand the lost feeling while watching.
