I had the chance to drive the back then prototype for the 2017 Freightliner New Cascadia, with a DD 10 gear transmission pulling a 25T load. Suddenly we were doing over 120km/hr during a Road test. It was great. Loved the truck.

Here’s my suggestion for an unusual drag race: I would like to see a drag race between an electric bicycle, electric scooter, normal bike and moped car. Or a drag race between a Citroen 2CV and a dog.

When you were towing, I notice the load cover was deployed on the Scania, opposed to an open load for the Merc. I still reckon the Merc would have got trounced but the Merc must have had increased drag imposed on it. But it helped with braking.

Difference in distance covered during one minute = 27 metres. Typical max length artic = 16 metres. Rigid+trailer can be 18.5 metres, but these are less common. Typically a lorry will pull out when he’s about four to five metres off the arse end of the lorry in front, he’ll typically pull back in when he gets a considerate flash of the lights from the lorry he’s overtaking to say, you’re all clear, pull in. Time elapsed = 50 - 60 seconds.

Bet you guys loved it though; it's a great experience. I've done it with a trailer and done a US Peterbilt unit only. I've found out not far from me just over the Thames in Kent there's a place to do the Kenworth too. It's defo on my bucket list as the w900 is my fave US rig.

well the merc got an 10,7l engine with 480hp and the scania got an bigger 13l with 500hp.. Mercedes have a version of the actros with a 12,8l engine with 502hp , should have been quite even ;)

@@kjell9661 that 20 hp loss doesnt make a difference on a 44 ton truck.. its about the torque curve between 900 and 1700 hp on most trucks... plus that 500 hp scania can also be a v8 instead of a straight 6.. mercedes doesnt build V8 actrosses anymore since the black edition... ( at least of what i know.. as i havent seen once since)

Basically, my dad's a lorry driver for the past. A lot, he drives a Scania P410 car hauler, lorry/truck transmission nowadays select higher gears like A3 A4 because you don't need the power, it goes lower with heavy cargo A2 or sometimes A1.

Yeah, it didn't seen as a performance mode at all. It was still keeping the revs below 1500. Weird.

That's because it's a Euro6 truck, it's way stricter. If they put a measuring device on the truck it's only allowed to output twice the amount of stated emissions unlike cars who are never tested while on real roads.

I know nothing about lorries but I do know that they're way faster than these two I work in a factory and I've seen drivers floor these things and its mind boggling how fast the acceleration is I dont get why these were so shit

That's seems very true! I have a feeling of these trucks were given to actual truck drivers who for example would use that clutch on demand, these trucks could probably post a second or two faster for their quarter mile times!

Mat flat spotted tires when he locked the brakes up, which is very expensive over time replacing tires. Yianni won the brake test IMHO. More races like this please. Dump trucks next with manual gear boxes.
