@@kr1ss00 Maybe cause the 5 series driver was just casually going and not even pressing the pedal more than halfway? You realize that BMW is in the 12.xx seconds on the 100-200 kmh acceleration. This Mercedes is like 20+ seconds. No competition here.

You could probably do the same in a well maintained E34 M5 from 1992. Their power outputs are very similar (and the BMW is lighter). Keep in mind this is basically an AMG Mercedes, before they felt the need to stick AMG badges on every panel of the car to make a big show about it. Back then Merceds meant understated quality, not just a badge for people trying to show off like today (same with BMW sadly).

@@soundseeker63 500E = amg ? Why ? There is an AMG version with 6.0 Liter and around 380HP. So for my understanding a normal 500E is not a tuning race trimmed car. Greetings from Germany 😊✌️

W124 E500 молод и игрив. 30лет уже даёт фору, король левой полосы. Я представил как водитель БМВ 5серий, ехал и видел сзади 124 1992года что он рвался вперёд и думал "что происходит?".:) Это правдо впечетлило!!!

They are built to last 10 years and go to scrap or become infinite money pits. The 124 was made in an era where Engineers had the lead in the decisions, not accountants.

Epic car the 500E. 326 HP in a 4-door sedan back in the early 90's was genuinely rare in those days. The acceleration from 0 is still comparable to modern day turbocharged 6 cylinder cars too. Awesome video!! Thank you for featuring this epic car!

Unless you're referring to a kia most modern 6 cylinder turbos I've seen run 0 to 60mph an average of a second faster. That being said I can think of a mass produced 20 year old 4 door family Ford that would mop the floor with this Merc, or its larger SUV cousin weighing 2300kg still capable of a faster time. REALLY ENJOYED YOUR POSTING!!! THANKS. I have the good fortune to currently own a pair of ‘94 E500’s here in northern CA. Working on both in preparation to sell them as a “package deal”. I fully understand the feedback these marvelous cars provide as the speed increases. At 125 mph these cars seem to “hunker down” and effortlessly continue to accelerate. I’ll never have the pleasure to drive either of the cars on the autobahn but maybe the next owner will. THANKS AGAIN for your video.

@@kaz8103 that was not a base model bmw, and your comparison isnt correct, you should instead compare an e39 m5 not with a 500 merc but with an w210 e55, its a more fair match. What i mean is that a 30 years car can match and pass a new car, we all should think about that. New cars are fast but they are made with programed obsolency, they dont last as long as the old ones. I also like bmws but mercs are a different ball game, i had both so i know...

Auf jeden Fall! Aber mit über 170kmh einem Familien Van so in den Arsch zu kriechen muss einfach nicht sein (minute 4:30 Uhr). Das ist unprofessionell und rücksichtslos. Abwarten bis die Spur frei ist und dann full throttle. Aber nicht wie hier gezeigt! Es gab schon genug Unfälle wegen solch rücksichtslosen Aktionen.

@@skillandluck Почему F90 лучше смотрится? наверное на любителя, но например M5 F90 и обычная гражданская мало чем отличаются внешне, очень похожи. А вот с W213 ситуация в корне противоположная, разница между авангард 213 и AMG E63s по внешности небо и земля. Волчок легенда не спорю, но он классика, куда ему с новым дизацном тягаться. У меня например рест W210 авангард, сейчас думаю взять 213, будет как новая ступень!

@@user-qs2qt5kh8k я любитель Мерседес и езжу пока что на 400Е 1992 года. Я когда только узнал об таких мощных Мерседеса, то сразу же влюбился в эту модель. К сожалению больше таких не будет, ну разве что рестмоды, построены с нуля, как например оригинальный Countach 2021 года (не современный, а именно 70-х годов). Вот такую машину я б себе взял (оригинальный Мерседес). Но желательно Е60 AMG либо 500Е/Е500

Als ebenso langjähriger 500E Fahrer ist das eine Freude zu sehen,ich habe es auch immer mal wieder genossen einem „modernen sportlichen“ Wagen zu zeigen was ein richtiges Automobil ist. Nicht selten kamen dann falls man sich an der Raststätte später zufällig begegnet ist sehr nette Unterhaltungen zu stande.

Ist mir auch schon etliche Male passiert, zum Beispiel mit meinem S500 V222. Da gibt's vom Porsche auf der Autobahn Daumen hoch für die Beschleunigung, im Berufsverkehr an der roten Ampel meinte ein BMW-Fahrer "schönes Auto", an der Tankstelle hatte ich 'nen älteren Herrn mit 'nem SL R230 getroffen, wir stimmten überein, dass sein 20 Jahre alter Wagen auch echt immer noch fabelhaft aussieht, an einer anderen Tanke sprach ich mit einem Corvette-Fahrer, an einer anderen Tanke mit einem Jungen Anfang 20, der 'nen C219 CLS 350 fuhr, dann hatte ich auf der Landstraße 'nen Subaru-Fahrer, oder sowas, mit ca. 380 PS, also sone japanische Tuning-Kiste, mit dem ich gequatscht hatte, dann war einer mit 'nem W213 AMG dabei, der seine Karre bei Brabus auf 650 PS getunt war (das war 'ne Rakete).

Porsche only assembled the car because it was too wide to build in the Mercedes factory. It doesn’t use any Porsche parts except for the battery cover

Thanks for taking us down memory lane. The 500E was always one of my dream cars when I was a teenager. Its amazing how stable the car was on the Autobahn at 260kmh indicated and with quick acceleration as well for an oldie. I remember when they came out they mentioned it had a theoretical top speed of 282kmh without the limiter. But I think that would have been with a longer final drive ratio as you were at red line at 260kmh

Pour l'annecdote cette sublime voiture qui est l'inégalable 500E w124 à était conçu en collaboration avec Porsche afin de concurrencer la Audi rs2 & la M5 E34. Le petit bijoux '''m119""était destiné à la classe S w140 les ingénieurs de chez Mercedes ne savais pas comment calé le V8 la dedans et ont fait appel à Porsche alors proche de la faillite pour faire ce travail plus que respectable,AMG n'était pas encore affilié à Mercedes-Benz à cette époque. Cette voiture de légende est à elle seule la raison principale de l'existence de Porsche aujourd'hui et l'entré de Mercedes dans la catégorie des véhicules de grand tourisme sport/confort.

Awesome duel there. Seems like the BMW ran into its limiter and decided to let you pass in the end. Love how the m119 sings as if Ormagöden was trapped under the bonnet, wish it had a 722.6 so it can translate all its might into speed.
