If you use an indoor antenna don't cheap out. Don't believe exaggerated range for cheap ones. If you live close to the broadcast towers the cheap ones will work. Look for one that has a coax cable fitting at the antenna and use a RG6 cable with triple or quad shielded cable. Antennas that come with a skinny cable permanently attached are garbage. I started with one and the pixelation was terrible. With a shielded cable results are excellent. I'm in my antenna setup about 40 bucks. If you are very far from the broadcast antenn🎉a you might have to have an roof mounted model.

Several years ago I was paying Comcast $234.00 a month for cable tv, phone, and internet service. I had been a Comcast customer since the 1980's. But, enough was enough. I dropped cable tv, kept the internet service and signed up for streaming services. I was still paying about $100.00 a month for internet service. But, lately AT&T fiber has come to my neighborhood. Now I'm paying half as much for twice the speed and lovin it.

We've been with Comcast Xfinity the last ten years for internet and cable tv, we didn't like the idea of going with satellite dish services, and there was no other worthy internet service that was wired in. But recently AT&T installed a large equipment pole on our street and I've been wondering if this is for wired internet... Can you please tell me what is the website for AT&T Fiber..? We are now very tired of the high costs of cable + internet with Comcast Xfinity and their extra bogus fees, and are inching our way towards cutting the cable service and only keeping the internet plan, and then signing up for a live tv streaming service. Thanks for your input about AT&T Fiber and how I can find out more info.

@@belaalee One good thing is that it was easy to drop Comcast. When I went into the Comcast store to return my Comcast modem and drop my service, the person I spoke to just said, "Ok.". No, trying to talk me out of it, no offering lower rates, just a simple transaction. FWIW, I now use UKposts TV as my main streaming service. But, there are lots of them available. @@belaalee The best thing I ever did with my TV was dumping cable. I kept the internet though. Got a $40 ROKU stick and signed up for Sling. It was so easy and worked so well I took all my cable TV boxes to the store and turned them in the next day. Good riddance. I'm in a major city so I put an antenna outside on my eve and I get major network channels for local news plus a bunch more. Now I'm looking at ATT fiber internet that is almost half of my cable internet service. Do it!

I cut the cord back in 1995, long before it was a thing. Back then, I was content with my video collection, and I could always get the news from papers or people I knew. Now with the internet, there is only ONE reason to keep cable going, and that's sports broadcasting. Well, since that means less than nothing to me, I miss absolutely nothing by keeping my money. :)

Xfinity and Comcast is the same company. Comcast is the parent company, as Xfinity is just their Provider for service: Internet, TV, and Phone. But in the past couple years, Comcast Xfinity was contacting individuals to upgrade their modem. Since most users were running DOCSIS 3.0. They were upgrading to 3.1 for faster speeds via DL/UL. Which I heard is currently happening. The problem with Comcast, like other provider companies is, people pays for x price for their device… and the company keeps taking your money; but never contacting you for a better one… for the same price.

If you're paying for hundreds of channels and only watching a hand full, you're WAY overpaying for your service. The channels on streaming are the same channels except you can at least get it for half the price. Just buy the internet access, your streaming service and your streaming boxes. Once you pay for the streaming boxes there's no more monthly cable box rental fees.

I am so glad I found your videos! I have had the Comcast triple-play bundle for years and years, and while it once made economic sense, it no longer does as they have raised their price three times in under five months. Today's bill is ten bucks more than last month's, which was ten bucks more than the month before. I still use a home phone and have accepted that I will have to use my cell all the time. I am nervous about changing so much tech in my life all at once, especially as I am not very tech-savvy. There is no competition for Comcast where I live but I won't continue to allow them to take financial advantage of me. People like you, Michael, perform an important-and comforting-service. Thanks.

I've been a UKposts TV subscriber since it was first available in my area. It was great in the beginning, somewhere around $45-$50 a month and now I'm paying $100 and rarely even use it. I think for most people once they ditch any sort of cable TV whether it's from a local provider or live tv streaming service, they'll realize they don't even miss it. We mainly watch on demand content, Apple TV, regular UKposts, MAX, and Netflix. As you said that's where the best content is anyway. The only thing keeping regular cable tv and streaming tv providers in business is sports content, i.e. ESPN. Once it goes a la carte, they're done.

They also do sports, like college football, with delayed showings that cut out everything except the plays. So, if you’re like me, most games (except for my team, lol) I might be interested in, but it’s much better to watch a 30 minute video with all the plays than to waste 3-4 hours of a Saturday when I could be outside, enjoying the fall weather. Biggest issue I am currently seeing is much of the new programming has been moving behind singular channel or service subscription services. Start adding in all the required singular plans one needs today then the first thing you know you are back to paying the full price you were paying before. Just to give an example is like the popular Yellowstone spinoffs are behind the Paramount+ service or now take some NFL games are on the NFL channel while Thursday games are Amazon Prime subscription required. I actually keep You Tube TV as much for the included free DRV as I prefer to watch tv on my schedule rather than the networks but I hate paying the $85 a month because of the sports plan I have to add to get some programming I like.

I have Hulu Live now bc I like watching live sports, like NBA and NFL but I constantly frustrated with Hulu. The live stream for games constantly freezes or there is a message about a problem with connecting. Then there is no customer service w/Hulu. No one to call or talk to. And most of these companies have no customer service.. I shouldn’t have to pay when I can’t see all the game because it freezes constantly…. Thanks for the good info abut cord cutting..

Another thing to remember when deciding on internet only plan is if you work remotely and rely on the same internet connection to work remotely, you may need to jump to the 400-600 Mbps plan. Consider also wired connections in home may be faster and more reliable than wireless. Having newer networking equipment is usually better. Also unless you have a guaranteed level of service (internet connection speed) then your speed from your provider can vary sometimes widely out of the expected range. Great video and great content.

Also they told me that the company is upgrading to fiber soon and that they will replace all of the equipment (basically the modem/router) for every customer. They already moved their tv service to IPTV and the tv box connects via WiFi only.

The funny thing is that when you add up streaming services, generally it costs about as much as having cable or satelite TV. The only major difference (and potential plus side) is you can watch your shows while you travel (which you may not be able to do with cable or satelite TV service, although many cable companies do offer streaming now too). But from a cost standpoint, unless you go down to maybe one or two streaming services, it will probably cost roughly the same in the end, especailly considering if you have Internet with cable, you probably get a bundle deal for both, whereas you'd lose the bundle deal pricing if you just went to Internet only, and the streaming services will probably fill in the difference and wipe out any potential savings, leaving it either only slightly cheaper or possibly even cost the same/more.

We have much different experiences. My cable bill was around $200 for 300+ channels of which maybe I watched 3 and I had to sign 1 year contracts. Now I pay a $35 Internet bill and a $20 streaming bill (I rotate streaming services), and have access to much more content it seems like. Now, I don't watch sports at that seems to be where a lot of cost comes in for people. Between rising cable costs, decline in number of interesting original content on cable (once niche-casting went away it really lowered the amount of content I was interested in), and increasing amount of ads on cable, I don't miss it at all. Maybe some day costs will catch up to where they were with cables, but I suspect that is at least a decade away.

You know what stops me from cutting the cord? Figuring out the proper location for the digital OTA antenna. That and hooking it up to a DVR so I can record (some) network programming and the news broadcasts. I had hoped I could use various apps to watch the newscasts, but you have to watch everything live, or reconstruct the newscasts out of the various stories posted in the apps. Plus you have to watch a lot of ads instead of fast forwarding through them. Ugh.

There is a new Tablo that you may want to consider for recording antenna TV. As for antenna placement, yes it's a challenge but start with figuring out your proximity to the broadcast TV towers. I go through the process in this video: ukposts.info/have/v-deo/mZhpepqMsKuGpaM.html

As fast as the phone companies claim 5g to be, I was expecting much faster than 200mbs. What are the upload speeds. As someone like yourself doing UKposts, you need a fast upload speed. Are there caps on upload data? another thing to consider, especially if you are using the internet for gaming is the latency. You didn't cover the latency on any of the options you mentioned. I use Spectrum, and pay 75 a month, I pay for 400mps down and 20mps up, but get an average of 550 down and 25 up. my latency is 37ms, which is really good. If your gonna stream from your TV, at least my experience has been go wired. I found I have a lot less waiting for apps to load and shows to start, and very few hiccups during a show.
@MichaelSaves
@MichaelSaves 4 місяці тому
I have been using 5G home internet for well over a year and upload speeds vary. I’d say around 20-25 is typical. I have articles on my website and videos on the channel with speed tests - even latency tests. This video is more of an overview.

I prefer to separate the cost of Internet and TV. The internet connection in my house is a "need" for many different things I use throughout the day where as the TV is just one of those things and gets used much less than say my computer or phone. So for my household (since cutting the cord with Comcast) internet is $65 (fiber w/no fees) and TV is $8 per month. Comcast was up to $220 when I finally closed the account.
