Kingsley North is a lapidary store in Michigan's U.P. They make a great cab machine and sell many other brands too. They have a huge selection rough rock, tumblers, grit, jewelry supplies etc. at good prices. I buy most of my coarse grit from here in 45 lb. bags. It's the best price I have found. If you buy using the following link, I make a small commission.

That little Omar gave me an idea. That would be perfect to fill with another little rock and fill with resin and make into a pendant.

That one would almost be small enough for that. I've found them even smaller though. I'm not really into resin, but I like your idea.

@@lisamanrique1770 I hauled a bunch of those home a long time ago. They sat in my cabinet for years because I didn't know what to do with them. I finally gave them to a geologist who was doing a paper on them and now I have my cupboard space back!

You were there the day I was there (April 15)? Were you one of the guys I talked to? How'd you know about this video? We drove that road four times that day. We went to the Blind Sucker, then back to Muskellunge for the outhouse, then back to Perry's Landing. The water was deeper every time. That road was a lot of fun.

YES my comment IS as long as some novels and I apologize for it. I've never heard a rock being called Little Omar before but they look cool. From what I am seeing rock picking at your end of the lake is a bit different than here on the North Shore in Minnesota. However, if you drive inland many miles on 4 different roads and highways, there is an amazing and GRADE A EXTRA LARGE AGATE that I would love to have gotten but the old guy and his son who found it, in order to protect their claim on it literally blindfolded me before taking me to see it, and after seeing it, I understood why they blindfolded me even though I would not have taken it away from them and they both took its exact location to their graves with them. This agate had a big chip knocked off it and a generous amount of banding was visible in the chipped area and in the chip itself. The entire thing even after it was chipped is so large that all 3 of us using large 6 ft pry bars to pop it loose could barely even get it to wiggle. Until then, I never knew that an agate could weigh in at well over 1000 lbs. I know they had not retrieved it before they both passed away and I was blindfolded from when we had left home until we were at the agates location and I was blindfolded again from when we were ready to leave the agate in the woods until we were nearly home. So, from what I have read, lost somewhere in the woods off of a certain road in Minnesota is what is quite possibly the largest Lake Superior Agate in the world... And now I am too crippled up to continue the search for it and I only know the name of the road it is off of in what by now will be a totally regrown logging area (and maybe even logged off again) they had found it in when they were cutting it 35 to 45 years ago.. and it was git and chipped by the dozer blade on the skidder that a guy workinf with them was running who was never told about the agate as he was the type who would have gone to any extreme to get it for himself so he could sell it and even his name is now lost as well. It sucks knowing this agate exists and even having it shown to me, yet being unable to find it again bexause it was shown to me under so much secrecy that I have never been able to find it after they died. Not even the old guys daughter knows its location.
@MichiganRocks
@MichiganRocks Рік тому
That's a great story. I have joked about blindfolding people before taking them to some of my favorite spots, but I have never heard of anyone actually being blindfolded. We do not have agates here like you have in Minnesota. I have been told by people in Minnesota that the big ones tend to be ugly, kind of like the one I found in this video. It would be awesome to see a huge boulder agate that was actually beautiful like you described. Thanks for the novel, I enjoyed it.

Water is like fire. These two elements unite and give joy to the point that we always think of renewing our gathering around a winter fire with family, similar to a walk along a stretch of water like the one where I see you in this moment. What pleasure, what joy to live fully in nature, and with it to obtain from what it discreetly offers us what many others cannot achieve during their entire lives. Thank you Mr. for reminding us what nature is capable of offering to those who offer it respect and trust. Have a good day to you, your family, and all those who follow you. Some great finds. The stach of rocks is a cool idea! Kinda like a treasure hunt or geocaching. My 6 year old was more vocal about the stones you put back then I was. Lol . Cheers from the 920 of Wi.

Yes, I was thinking about geocaching when I decided to do this on a regular basis. My daughter used to be into geocaching and we had a lot of fun doing that together. My game is a lot easier. I'm not trying to hide anything from my viewers, just from other random people.

Rock hunting is just so exciting. Yearly we vacation at the jersey shore. We get to the beach at sunrise and I plant my but down on the shore line 1/2 in the sand and 1/2 in the water just waiting to pluck the best rocks that the water brings me. My husband walks for hours looking for shells. I wish the younger generation would get off their electronics to discover what great wonders we have in nature.

I have never seen the northern lights. Nancy saw that there was a good chance to see them a few nights ago, but it was cloudy here so we didn't go out. Someday, I'll see them!
@MichiganRocks
@MichiganRocks Рік тому
Yes, they can be seen here, but it's not common. I think it's more common in the U.P. since it's farther north than where I live.
@davidhile5363
@davidhile5363 Рік тому
@@MichiganRocks On very rare occasions you can see them here in northern Indiana. I remember on night back in the 80’s when they were oh so vivid. Beautiful colors of blue and green. We are now entering the solar cycle when the sunspots will be on the increase for 5 years or so. The best times for them to occur is when the sun is nearest to the equator. That would be spring and fall but they can occur anytime if the conditions are right.
@MichiganRocks
@MichiganRocks Рік тому
@@davidhile5363 There are apps that tell you when they're likely. I don't have any of those apps, but I should get one. Nancy is interested in seeing them and so am I.
