I'm so glad to find this video haha I love my K380 and have been looking to upgrade it. All these low profile keyboards can't beat the height of the K380, but now this MS Designer compact is talking to me😂 Not really bothered by the round keys on the K380 but the squares are definitely gonna be preferable to me. Now I just gotta see how it feels to type on the MS keyboard. Hopefully someday someone figures out how to make a mechanical kb with this low of a height. That would be my ideal kb.

I really like the Microsoft compact keyboard, but I have still have one concern. Because it uses bluetooth connection, would you be able to access and configure the BIOS?
@SkyPerspective

Yes I suspect there will be many who wants to compare these three keyboards. Thanks for confirming this is the case, very happy to know. To answer your question, no, it uses bluetooth, so the keyboard does not work when we are in the BIOS interface. I just tested it for you, the bluetooth lights on the keyboard shows its attempting to connect when my computer is in the BIOS screen. Hope this helps.

Hi. What's best for coding? Logi k380 or Microsoft designer? I was thinking to get k380 but I heard that when you type fast some buttons can remain like 'inside'. TY
@SkyPerspective
@SkyPerspective Рік тому
I would suggest go for Microsoft designer for coding. The keys are bigger and easier to type on compared to K380. There are also HOME END PG UP PG DOWN dedicated keys. However, if you don't mind a bigger size keyboard, I highly recommend Logitech K780 for coding.
@99xara99

It may not matter to some but I like that the K380 has 3 media buttons - previous >. Because I use it all the time while I listen to music on spotify. I actually end up reassigning different keys to that function if there are not dedicated buttons because they're essential to me.
@BornIntoThis20

I like these media buttons too. Is it possible to reassign them in the Microsoft designer keyboard too? It have a similar app like Logitech Options for that?
@oes2546

0:05 Indeed. Or even have the numberpad on the left. Which is great for entering numbers while using mouse-heavy programs like CAD-software. (I can basicly do almost everything using only the number keys and my mouse in ABAQUS, and looking over to the number row on my TKL keyboard takes a large amount of time when adding it all up, while having a full-size is not an option because it messes up the ergonomics when using a mouse a lot.) I think I'm getting this combo for less then the price of the MX Mini 👍 Not fancy or premium, but simple and just works. Probably just as fast if not faster to type on as well, as I never really liked the MX Keys very much for the typing experience itself.
@artefloe7676

I love this keyboard, the size, quality, feel and the battery life are all great. But I have a small problem that when the keyboard sleeps after 5-10 mins, it doesn't wake up in a consistent way when I press a key, sometimes it wake up in less than a second, sometimes more, sometimes it registers the key\keys I pressed to wake it up, sometimes not. For example when I try to type a word or enter a password when the keyboard is asleep, sometimes it wakes up normally and register the whole word, but sometimes it doesn't register the first letter, other times it misses more than one letter. Do you have this problem? Is it a Bluetooth thing? Because I never had this problem using Logitech wireless keyboards. Great videos BTW!
@SkyPerspective
@SkyPerspective 2 роки тому
Hi Arte Floe, yes I do experience that sometimes, and yes Logitech does not seem to have this issue. Once again I suspect it's due to the limited battery size and capacity, that's why they need all sorts of ways to converse power. Most likely the keyboard goes into some sort of deep sleep. Normally what I do is I press enter first to wake it up and on the password text field, I press the first character of my password and see if that pops up in the text box, and continue to type the password after the first character appears as the first dot. Hopefully this helps.

It will work with mac. I have tested it for another viewer asking the same question and it works with my Macbook Pro 2013. Note at initial connection, my Macbook could not identify the keyboard type and I had to press some keys to confirm the type of keyboard. After that it works well. Not sure if this is because my Macbook is running old software. Sorry I don't have a MX Keys keyboard to compare to K380. All my videos are my personal tech gear, and my channel is too small for Logitech to notice or sponsor me 🙂 I don't think I am going to get a MX Key mini anytime soon because I can't justify it's price.

One of the things that put me off the Microsoft keyboard is its insistence on going into sleep mode and taking quite a bit of time, relatively speaking, to come out of sleep mode. Also, the need for a pin to get into the battery compartment and the need for changing batteries is a mild minus for me personally. But the waking from sleep problem is a much bigger annoyance, of course, because it affects me all day long, every day. The batteries and the pin once a year I could most likely live with. Does anyone know whether there is a solution for the sleep issue yet?

@SkyPerspective

I find that worth the money is all depending on how much you use the features that comes with the keyboard. MX Keys is worth it if you need to backlit keys and use software like Logitech flow. Down side is the battery on MX battery life is short and needs charging frequently if you use with backlit keys.

@SkyPerspective

Yes, if you download the microsoft mouse and keyboard center app that is designed to configure this keyboard, there is a FN Lock setting where you can turn on and off. Hi woofinu, what a great suggestion. I have added your suggestion into my list of video to make. Yes its a good idea to use this Microsoft Designer Compact keyboard as a portable keyboard. I read that the Microsoft Designer Keyboard cant enter Bios, so can the Compact enter Bios?
@SkyPerspective
@SkyPerspective Рік тому
No, because this is a all Bluetooth keyboard, i.e. all device 1,2 and 3 are all connected via Bluetooth, it cannot enter Bios until the operating system loads up the Bluetooth connection on the computer. This is why some keyboards like Logitech Keyboard K780 comes with a usb dongle that helps provide basic keyboard function when you plug in the USB dongle and select device 1 to enter bios. Having said that, not all Logitech keyboards that comes with a USB dongle can enter bios. This is why I always keep a wired keyboard in my cupboard, just in case all wireless option fails.

Limited as a multimedia keyboard - no media-prev or media-next... and it would be better, instead of a LOCK key (Ctrl-Alt-L locks the desktop) to have a 'FN SWAP' key, to allow function keys to do EITHER F1-F12 or the function by just pressing the key. The layout of the mk270r is good - it could use additional media-next and media-prev keys instead of home/email launcher keys (easily remapped) separated from the F keys. A similar layout, with the insert->PgDn keys in a vertical line, full size arrows would be perfect, with a numpad and a compact version without numpad. So really, all keyboards still suck - but a couple suck less. The best I found so far is Royal Kludge RK84 - but that would be a bit noisier.

Try these: 1) Get the device you are connecting into Bluetooth pairing mode searching for keyboard to connect 2) Press and hold on to the device switch button until the device light starts fast blinking. Doesn't matter if it's 1, 2 or 3 3) Check the device Bluetooth pairing search to see if the keyboard has been found. Select it after it pops up. 4) Follow the steps connect the device. Which steps above are you not able to connect?
