@@user-dw3gx5gb9x Years ago, i had the opportunity to speak to a former DDR MIG 29 Pilot, he said, the MIG 23 was a very reliable and universal Fighter Jet, even comparable to the F-4 Phantom. Only the poor Avionics ( from the sight of western pilots ) were not as good as there from the Phantom.

On video are variants MF and ML.Mig-23ML was better than West germany F-4 if both pilots are equal.Mig-23 one engine far better than Mig-21 engine. It was possible to attack at high speed "rakurs" from a lower altitude to the enemy aircraft I am not pilot but you probably understand what I mean. In the 70/80s, American machines had problems detecting low-flying targets, The advantage was the changeable geometry of the wings. This is one of the tactics czechoslovak pilots which used . East german pilots probably used also this standard attack to higher flying enemy target! With R-60 and R-23 missiles was deadly. I dont know if F-4 used also this attack or not?.Its 2 engine and too big plane.Migs-23ML can detect ground flying planes on high speed. One of our pilots said that you were afraid of us! When american and western pilots saw what the Czech pilots could do, one of them "said" we should have been even more afraid

@@mike03021967 Na,das üben von Start,Landung,Aufrüsten ... auf der Autobahn.Die war im Gegensatz zu den offiziellen Fliegerhorsten nicht einfach abzuschotten.Geheimhaltung ganz ohne Zuschauer war nicht durchzusetzen Das waren ganz normale Straßen.Es gab noch nicht mal Leitplanken. Hätte ich dort in der Nähe gewohnt,nichts hätte mich aufgehalten,da ein Auge zu riskieren.

The 29 was also operated for a while after reunification, and then sold to the polish I think, one of em is in Gatow military airport museum in Berlin. The DDR pilots were very skilled, and had some nice planes too

The ability to use your own prerogative and not some kind of instructual robot is what makes a good pilot soft lad.

@Steve Arthur Well rigid training or not, soviet pilots have a pretty good track record during the cold war, they were especially successful in korea despite military aviation not being the focus of the USSR.

@Steve Arthur Yeah in part because of the political system. The government was afraid of defectors, but even more so in the GDR. I think they were under even shorter leash than soviet pilots.

I remember stories about excercises in the middle of 80's with Polish and Russian pilots during which the weather was quite nasty. GDR pilots refused to fly at all in these conditions. Poles fly and execute their missions. After all German pilots gave Poles their "wings" as a sign of respect. So much about German pilots being hardcore as fuck...

MiG aircraft look mean as hell.

This my all time Favorite along with the SAAB Viggin. And yes Russian planes look badass and have always been my favorite. Got many books on Soviet/Russian Aircraft.

@PaK_Wagen I guess they always communicated in Russian, at least that would be logical for a Warsaw pact country. It is not that every pilot flies his jet 8 hours a day, so every flight must be seen as an exercise and involves everything, also communication skills. Radio communication on airplanes and airfields is (at least in the West) always recorded and are listened back and when you made a mistake, the Comms control of the field may want a word with you. It is also the way to find back information after a crash. You need to practice radio-communication on and on, to be able to use them correctly when SHTF. If you have trouble finding the right words or understanding it, the plane has already covered 5 or 10 miles more.
