Cus always have Tyson advice and tips in training. You'd see him ring side during training talking to Mike. Analyzing his practices and giving him corrections when he noticed mistakes. He also prepared mike mentally. Yeah Rooney held the mits and trained mike. But cus was just as much if not more of a role in Mike's development. A lot of boxing is mental as much as physical. Cus was brilliant in the mental training and preparation. All the perspectives he had on fear and so on.

He also was having sex with lots of the women in Tokyo, while drinking and doing drugs. That's not how you prepared for a fight, I don't care who you are. Plus after he dropped his trainer, Kevin Rooney, he also dropped, what made him the boxer he was. Also where was Lewis, at this time? Still hiding in the amateurs, or just turning pro (actually Lewis turned pro in 1989). Where was Holyfield? Well Holyfield didn't become a heavyweight until around 1988. Why didn't he and Tyson fight then? Didn't happen because Holyfield wanted to see if he could handle a heavyweight punch, and give one, hard enough to hurt them. He knew better to challenge Tyson in 1988, in his first fight. Yeah when the smart, and one can argue the scared way of fighting at least 5 heavyweights alone the way. They should have fought as soon as went up there, but he knew better, same for Lewis, who could have turned pro a hell of a lot sooner, who's even a year older than Tyson. At least Holyfield was signed to fight Tyson in 1991, but Tyson ruined it by getting into trouble. And after the 3 years in prison, he was never the fighter he was once was.
