Mikhaila Peterson is a Canadian health blogger who runs the blog “Don’t Eat That”. She is also the daughter of renowned Clinical Psychologist, Jordan Peterson.
Mikhaila endured multiple health problems when she was growing up. She was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis at age 7 which eventually led to her needing a hip and ankle replacement as a teenager. She took multiple prescription medications, suffered from serious skin problems, was severely depressed and had chronic fatigue.
After years of research trying to solve her autoimmune problems, she began to focus on her diet and started eliminating foods via self experimentation. Mikhaila eventually ended up on a Carnivore diet (beef and water only) which has resolved her multiple conditions. She’s now off of all medications and in complete remission.

The fact that she had depression, couldn’t walk at times and auto immune etc, and are now doing talks in front of heaps of people says a lot about what this diet has done for her compared to drugs.

I feel that way after having seizures from epilepsy. I have no energy and it takes a long time to recover but I'm never sure when I should push myself harder to get off the couch. There's a lot of "brain fog" I guess and so I'll try to get up and do something but I'll just forget 5 minutes later when I'm in the middle of it and go sit back down. I'll only remember that I was trying to get something done about 30-45 minutes later. I'm not sure if I should bother trying again.

@Sylvine
@Sylvine Рік тому
@@savage22bolt32 Same here. I have a healthy BMI, am reasonably fit, no major health issues except feeling low-energy and being prone to depressive episodes. Figured that I'm just built that way, now I'm not so sure. I've been doing Keto for a while (~8 months) last year with some very good results, but I still had some issues that I chalked up to mineral deficiencies (feet cramps, mainly, ranging from mildly annoying to hellishly painful). I don't have these when I eat carbs, so I figured that some sort of nutricient deficiency was the problem. And, as mrs. Peterson says, gotta listen to Your body, right? Diet change = cramps, so don't do that diet. Seems logical enough. Now after diving deeper into this whole carnivore thing, I'm beginning to think: Maybe the problem wasn't "not enough carbs", maybe the problem was "too many plants". I did tend to get my fats from nuts, oils and avocados rather than animal sources (I couldn't stomach tallow and I don't particularly love bacon, especially for extended time periods...). My live-in girlfriend is going to be away for ~ 4 weeks the week after this one, I've already started doing keto again. I plan to do full carnivore once she's gone - cut out dairy if I can manage it, too, maybe eggs as well - see how it works for me. Despite all the testimonies, I still am a bit scared to cut everything; I can't afford to buy quality meat and I don't want to get some severe mineral or vitamin deficiency so I'd like to keep the vitamin+mineral bombs that eggs famously are, and some dairy products just make the meals much more platable to me (creme fraiche in particular) / make it easier to keep my fat intake sufficiently high (butter).
@DowJonesDave
@DowJonesDave Рік тому
@@savage22bolt32 do it you'll be amazed. In less than two weeks my guts stopped hurting when I work, and the foamy, amber urine has turned to light yellow with a LOT less foam. Kind of have to step up my intake though. I've been doing a pound of 75% fat meat, and eight eggs per day. I lost the little bloat bulge in my gut already, but I was always thin and now I've lost some weight and i'm super skinny. I have to add a pound of meat/day I think. But I have to tell you I'm really stoked at the insanely fast results I'm getting.

I almost died in 2020. During covid, I was so sick with an autoimmune disease that when I was finally able to see a Dr. she could not believe I was still alive when she got my blood work back. I was constantly hearing voices, seeing people who were not there during this time. I experienced seizures collapsing with sudden neurological spasms. All my Drs couldn't find anything wrong with me. I was one month married when I got sick and thought I was spending my last few months alive with him. Long story short, I'm 99% recovered by doing a lot of the same things she's done and now am coaching friends and family a new way to live. I have a dream to someday share my experience like her.

I am 67 years old. For many years I suffered from major pain. My doctors were loading me down with narcotics (Vicodin/Oxy/Flexeril/etc.) and other drugs. I have always believed that you cannot take a drug without it negatively affecting your body. However, since I was nursing my mother, I took the pain pills so that I could stay on my feet. The day Mom died I quit taking all drugs. I was living with incredible pain. Then I became very ill and relapsed 3 times and was hospitalized. So, I made the decision to go on a Plant Based diet. I loved the food ... but it nearly killed me. I became much worse and the pain increased to the point I could barely walk. Plus, I was covered in Oxalate rashes. Then I listened to Mikhaila about her health problems. Based on what she said I immediately switched to the Carnivore diet ... which was around Christmas 2022. In less than a week I had a dramatic improvement in my health. In less than two weeks the majority of my pain was gone. My Arthritis is gone - including the swelling ... my Fibromyalgia is gone ... my Joint problems are gone, my daily Nausea is gone, etc. Too many improvements to list here. I have also lost 103 pounds and finally got myself to the gym and signed up with a Trainer. Had I not personally experienced this I would not have believed it was possible. Yes, I did experience the dieting flu symptoms. But that was easy to deal with because the pain was being sucked out of me. Thank You Mikhaila! My sincere appreciation to you for making your videos.

I had my bloods done recently though and they showed high cholesterol and high inflammation, which I wasn't expecting as I've lost 42 lbs and feel so much better! Also, I only have one bowel movenent every five days which is worrying. Have you experienced any of these? I was suffering from Hashimotos, Alpha-Gal, migraines, many food sensitivities and gut problems before this but my symptoms are nearly all gone and my migraines disappeared for the first time in my life.

@@scarred10 First. You realize this is a Low Carb Keto / Carnivore channel, right. So the topic is that kind of diets. Second. She does not advice anything. She talks about her own experience with the severe autoimmune illness she has (among other things) and how she keeps it in check with her nutrition. Third. Scientifically - no matter what you think of a carnivore diet - it is unchallenged that meats contain the least amount of allergens. There are hundreds of thousands of people a similar diet helps with their food allergies and makes them more healthy overall.

I’ve been a registered nurse since 1998. I didn’t realize just how entrenched the pharmaceuticals are American medicine. I mean, the medical schools are funded by the pharmaceutical industry. Well, I mean, it makes sense, right? You need brainwashed doctors to push your chemicals. I learned that doctors also get ‘incentives’ to write prescriptions? Yes, there is a website you can visit, to see the incentives your doctor is receiving. It’s really quite disturbing. Doctors were and are being incentivized to write prescriptions, knowing it may not be the correct prescription, just a prescription that has an incentive attached. It’s wrong.

It's very hard to find the root of an issue though. It takes time. By treating the symptoms, you are helping the doctor search for the cause. I agree with you on the BIG issues though. 75% of all hospitalizations and deaths dues to illnesses are treatable issues. 80% of heart disease is preventable and reversible through diet and exercise. 50% of cancers are preventable. 85%+ of diabetes is preventable and reversible with diet and exercise. 90% of liver disease is preventable and many reversible (by stopping the consumption of alcohol). The majority of health care spending is on preventable illnesses due to our shitty diets and lazy lifestyles. As a healthy person, I hate the fact that my health insurance is so high because of the people in my group policy are NOT so healthy.

Lee Grant I don’t think that’s entirely true bud, he was taking benzodiazepine since 2016, he had been using the antidepressant for a while and increased his prescription while his wife was dealing with a serious critical and mostly lethal cancer and which she nearly died from, luckily she survived. Also, he didn’t know that increasing the dose would eventually increase his anxiety rather than reduce it (not until later when they found more research which showed that older people could suffer from dementia and it’s only suppose to be used for at most 2 weeks to treat pain) He was physically dependent on it buddy, it’s not like he is an addict and had to get his fix, he tried leaning off, but at that point his body was absolutely dependent on it to function, where he couldn’t go a couple days without taking the antidepressant. Not a lot of research has been done about this sort of dependency as these sort of drugs. I think what you said is pretty insensitive and bogus, but maybe you’re a decent person.

I had all sorts of issues, but the most noticeable one was my skin. Rashes, eczema, tiny wounds, itchy red spots all over my face and body, and they all got worse and more itchy every time I ate food. I started making the connections with food and my skin problems, and I eliminated most foods until I was left with only beef, lamb, salt. I stuck with only eating meat for a while, and also started taking cetrizine, and I soon recovered almost completely. For some reason eating pure beef just doesn't irritate my body. No stomach pains, no eczema, no itching, no brain fog. After 1-2 years with only eating beef I went to check my blood levels, and for some reason my vitamins and everything were perfectly well balanced. No deficiencies. I figured out this all on my own with just listening to my body, I had no idea there were such thing as carnivore diet, but I'm happy to see this stuff is being recognized.

I always wondered if I was just lazy too, because I would lounge around and sleep all the time even though I'm a fairly ambitious person. I did keto after I found out I had reactive hypoglycemia my senior year of college, and it turned my whole life around. I lost 30 pounds, stabilized my blood sugar, and my mood improved drastically. I went from struggling to get out of bed and falling asleep after eating anything to lifting weights every day and running up to ten miles a few times a week. Amazing! Anytime I slip up I get very ill and depressed, not to the degree of Peterson, but still horrible for me. Thank you!! I’m glad you were able to get this out and continue to do so. I’m 41 and suffered massive depression at a young age. I lived in the panhandle of Tex growing up where (at the time) all Drs put you on antibiotics every time you visit them. Now we know that ruins your gut and digestive health causes you to be sensitive to all kinds off foods and drinks. We also ate fast food almost daily and didn’t have the best food in the grocery store. Super small town/area. I don’t live there anymore. I’m thankful at my age now to have videos and education out there about different ways of eating. I am fixing my IBS, digestive system, bloating pressure, gut pain, sleeping disorders and mental problems with an all high fat carnivore life style. I don’t really eat out because I can eat at home and I love my cooking and food much better.

Just discovered this talk. Recently did a 6 week AIP exclusion diet (search if interested) + probiotic culture, as I got frustrated with the lack of solution to what has been for 4 years a non ending guttate psoriasis. 6 weeks later : bloating gone, skin down to just a residual 'shadow' on the skin, scalp normal, energy waaaay up. 10 weeks later: skin fully healed, digestion normal, can now tolerate small portions of dairy and glutenous foods while maintaining the main diet as the AIP backbone. Just adding the story to show that there is yet another case out there that supports Mikhaila's findings.

Thank you for sharing your story. I have nearly the same exact one but it started at age 23 (took me and specialists 7 years to figure this out) but we Learned I am allergic to MOST fruits and vegetables shortly after going into anaphylaxis from green beans cooking on the stove. Once I started meat and potatoes only diet I lost 40 lbs in a few months and I could walk again without limping, I could bend my fingers without excruciating pain, I wasn’t feeling nauseous all the time, I had energy! It’s so hard to find others who have shared this difficult journey, so thank you!

I admire this woman SO much. She is living proof, and I can attest to it, that we MUST become proactive in our own health. We have to become 'experts' in our own wellness Don't depend on your MD. Doctors are good at fixing broken bones and such, but, most don't have a CLUE about nutrition.
@cmoon3121
@cmoon3121 5 років тому
and that's exactly what pisses me off about modern health care. if you want good health you have to take matters into your own hands. these are experts, certified doctors. they are supposed to help us, we are supposed to trust them, that's what we pay for! ..yet that's not the case, we can't do that right now. i feel.. betrayed if that makes sense. not necessarily by doctors, but by bigfood/bigpharma and MONSANTO in general. because money is currently worth more than human health..

Did you guys know that we've solved the oncological paradox? Cancer is a metabolic disease and is being successfully treated with metabolic therapy. Keto and fasting is playing a big part. I have a playlist on my channel, "kick cancer in the face with your boots on" it has a ton of videos, from medical professionals on the subject. My dad died of cancer(treatments) last year, while his doctors told his to eat all the sugar he could(wrong), so I am kind of on a mission to let everyone possible know about this new line of thinking. I am not affiliated with these channels in any way at all, just trying to do my tiny part to help humanity. Check the playlist, or look up Dr. Thomas Seyfried or cancer as a metabolic disease here on youtube. Dr. Seyfried also has a book. If you find the logic as convincing as I did, please tell EVERYONE. At 400,000 bucks profit per patient, we can't count on these megacorps to spread the word for us. Love, peace, and elbow grease.

@Solve Everything I don't think you understand what a shaman really is. The term has been hijacked by western culture to mean things that are entirely counter-productive. Real shamans do exist, though, and their lives are fascinating and very difficult. I agree with your sentiment, just thought I'd drop a little food for thought, so to speak. ;)

I have many of the same issues as yourself and dad. 10 yrs ago I went on an extreme restricted diet and only ate a couple things- meat and oats and a couple vegs. for a few months. I felt unbelievably fantastic. I fell off the wagon and had a fast food meal and almost suicided. Talked myself through it minute by minute, hour by hour. Unspeakable anxiety and depression. Diet can be life changing. But wow is it hard to maintain severe restricted eating when food is such a social thing and so many events revolve around it. Its socially isolating. I wish I could find my tribe locally. Drs are full of it. They know little. The allopathic system almost killed me. Integrative is the way to go but even they don't know what to do with us. There is something genetic going on.

I love this. I'm only now switching to carnivore, but a few years back, my doctor told me to stop eating bacon, eat vegetables and blah blah blah. High blood pressure, on my 40s, and that never worked for me, which I tried. It was bad even when I was younger, and a soldier. I discovered keto, and that went back to my VA appointment and bam! BP no longer dangerous, lost 38 pounds of fat, massive testosterone boost, and I feel and look better than I did 15 or more years ago. Now, I've decided on going full carnivore.

Mikhaila, I was recently diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis after spending 20 years in complete misery and blinding pain. You and your father genuinely have saved my life. I cannot thank you enough for doing the digging for me to discover a diet that has helped heal me. I start biologics Monday and but the diet change alone has already taken so much of the redness out of my skin, lifted a CRIPPLING depression/daily anxiety, and allowed me to actually walk. Aside from the physical relief, having the peace of mind from knowing that I truly am sick is the greatest gift anyone has ever given me. I know you’ll never see this, but I cannot thank you enough for what you have done for me and my older brother (also diagnosed). You are my HERO. God bless you, and God bless the Peterson family.

@@williammatthews4122 I suspect a large part of that compassion for others stems from his own struggles with depression and over coming other struggles in his life. You can't truly empathize with people unless you deeply understand what it is they're going through and have experienced it yourself.
