Coming from a type 1 diabetic, I can totally understand where Oliver is coming from when he didn’t want to tell the girls about it, it’s terrifying and you’re trying to figure it out on your own and you can’t find the words to tell people and it sucks, but once you find your own system it gets easier and it might be easier to tell your friends but that’s completely up to you

I have no clue why Disney doesn't keep this episode. This is one of their best episodes and teaches kids to not only help out and listen to their friends but also to trust their friends to do their own thing. As someone who loves helping people, knowing when it's my turn to back off is an important thing I've learned and I love how this episode shows that Miley and Lilly needed to trust Oliver to tell them and to figure it out. On top of all that, it talks about diabetes. Edit: Oh and this episode really highlights their love for Oliver. He's often their punching bag but in this episode they not only confronted the nurse, thinking she was encouraging their 16-year-old friend to be in a relationship with her, but they went out of their way to protect him from foods, even if it wasn't truly protecting him.

He forgot to tell them that he also has to take insulin when he eats(unless he is low) and at night/morning for all day long lasting blood sugar balancing. Or at least as much as it can be balanced. And fail on Disney's part because for him to have checked his blood sugar he would have needed to prick himself with the poker that comes with that meter, put a test strip in the meter and put blood on the test strip. He did none of those things so the only way he would really know if his blood sugar was low is if he felt faint or weak or something. My husband is type 1 diabetic so I know. Also he can eat sugar if he takes insulin to compensate for it.
@martej.r.23107 років тому
The modern technology is better today than it was, so It seems right. But this Hannah Montana-episode is many years old, so the information we got through this episode is wrong, yes. They've missed a lot of important information.
@mariahrojas36607 років тому
My husband has had to prick his finger and use the meter and test strip since he was ten. he is now 19 almost 20. That means he has been doing it for 9 years. This episode aired around that time. And I remember the meter commercials and finger pricking stuff from even before that. Nothing about this is right. It's just another example of Hollywood misrepresenting serious issues. They have done with this diabetes and other things forever. I still love this show though:)

You don’t need to prick your finger to check sugars. Pumps and cgms can check sugars without finger sticks. Also, a brownie will raise his sugar levels. However, he should do something with simple carbs, cause it will work faster. But for a Disney production.. they did a pretty dang good job of representing type 1 for the short time slot they had.

The thing they portrayed was a glucose meter. They require a blood sample from your finger. Obviously Oliver didn't actually do that. I don't blame them for not wanting to scare kids or something, but we do have to physically prick our fingers multiple times/day so it's kinda inaccurate to just look at it and say your BS's low. BUT, (side note I have type 1:)) that glucometer portrayed here was one of the first ones I received when I was diagnosed, because it was small and came in a lot of colors haha! Bonus info: I now (and many diabetics) wear a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) that tells me what my sugars are approximately all the time

They have things called cgms and pumps that can check your sugar without a fingerstick. Think it was supposed to be one of those. Even though I believe it was just a regular meter from the looks of it. But it is possible to not have to stick your fingers, at least not often
