To me obitio is the Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader of Naruto , he’s not the chosen one like Vader but he is a key part to naruto story and he was pulling the strings around a lot of events that happened in Naruto’s life . Minato performed the Reaper Death Seal first, sealed Yin Kurama into himself and he and Kushina got impaled by Kurama's claw to protect Naruto, and then he died. Following this logic, Obito contributed in Minato's death (indirectly). As for what killed him first, probably the seal since you need to sacrifice your life to perform it, I guess being impaled just cuts his time shorter.
