Mistake-proof Your Golf Swing Like Bryson DeChambeau

Can you have a golf swing that is mistake proof? This is exactly what Bryson DeChambeau has been displaying as he continues to be one of the most successful players on the PGA Tour. Even though I don't really believe in "secrets" I do believe that swing secrets are simply biomechanical advantages established from how you position the body to strike a ball on the ground with a stick.
The Single Plane Golf Swing Book: www.amazon.com/gp/product/161...
What is a mistake-proofing a golf swing? It means that you have a biomechanical advantage. It can be described as a position of the body that creates an advantage whereby eliminating variables. The elimination of the angle of the wrist at address, fully reaching the maximum ulnar deviation of the lead wrist, created a biomechanical advantage for Moe Norman and is also why Bryson DeChambeau is quickly becoming the next great ball striker on the PGA Tour.
We call this elimination of the angle - The Single Plane Golf swing which starts the club, through the proper ulnar deviation, on the same plane as impact. The Single Plane swing a biomechanical advantage, and not a quick fix golf technique. It is a system, beginning at address, that simplifies the most important moment of the golf swing - impact.
Starting at address on two planes where the arms hang straight down at address, the Conventional golf swing is complicated. Because the arms are hanging straight down, a conventional golfer must lift the body into impact creating stress on the back.
This upward movement to accommodate the two planes is unnecessary.
The Single Plane Golf swing simplifies the golf swing by eliminating the need for the upward movement by starting and impacting on the same plane.

Holy Cow!! excellent video. I've golfed for 20 years. Tried it at the range Friday, Saturday 18 holes, Range Sunday, Sunday 18 holes, I hit nearly every single fairway. What shocked me the most - the ball flight path - solid straight forward with no fade or draw - perfectly straight! Eyes on target - ball goes there. I'm loving this so much. Thank you for breaking it down in a way which translates to the average golfer like me. I also applied to my rescue - clean , perfect contact with great ball flight and distance.

I adopted this swing in the mid '90's from the original Golf Digest tape. Made me straighter, just as long, and no more back problems. It's liberating to know that when you stand over the ball, you'll make more solid contact and it will be straighter and in play. I had the privilege to sit with a half dozen others before an exhibition Moe did near where I live and listen to him talk about not just the mechanics of the golf swing, but on the mental side. 'If you think you can, you will. If you think you can't, you won't." And that's a lesson for more than your golf game. Nice too see you carrying on his memory Little Moe. M

Tried this out over the last week & it's incredible, to me I could never get a lot of yardage on my drives even though I put a lot of effort into it, with this stance & grip I can really let go & I'm getting more distance & straighter shots, the ball hits the club face more on line which gets the distance, I do not use this for my irons as that's not been a problem, but for driving & fairway woods it's been brilliant, thanks Todd.

@@malleus9778 Not the OP, but I realized that I have gradually been doing a very similar swing over the years based on what's been successfully for me. My guess on the slice elimination would have to be somewhat related to the ulnar deviation of the lead wrist. From the few videos on eliminating a slice I've seen from guys like crossfield, now this guy, and a few others, that essentially helps the club release with a more in to out path and keeps the club face closed. That promotes more of a draw/hook than a fade/slice. I've since moved into a push draw from a push slice. My miss is now just a block right vs a 60 yard slice, but when I hit it right it's a nice draw.

@@stupidshot4PC I went golfing just last night (same night as my question to op) and you are absolutely right. Having the left hand "weak" (the back of the hand facing the same direction as the club face), and act as an extension of the arm changed everything. I also performed the other address positions and did the sequence best I could. No more slice! Had a few fades and still eff'd up a few shots due to careless alignment etc, but it was the best driving day I've had in a very long time. I just need to work on some flexibility in the back swing and timing but it really works. You can definitely get real serious power once you're able to sequence correctly and fully turn properly. I dont mean to sound too over the moon like a shill or something but before trying this, I was push slicing literally every single time and went to using my 4 iron for drives so I'm pretty thrilled.

As a 51 year old low hcp player with massive back pain past 2 months it AMAZED me going to the range only bringing that driver to check if rumors about less strain to ur back is a reality!! Ball #1 was unreal (trust me ... i thought this was crap before i hit a ball... just needed to try anything) ... it didn't only go straight AND longer than my average .... it took NO EFFORT other than strong comfortable setup and turn = bingo! I hit all 50 balls incredibly well and long ... faster ball speed and club head speed without me trying it ... flight was higher and more staple ... timing was easier ... BUUUUT if timing somehow got wrong i was on another planet right or left :P Average of those 50 (my first 50) like this was around 308 yards ... that's massive for an "old" guy with hcp 3 .... so i would suggest people trying it ... gradually getting there and back to their old swing to figure out where their middle is. I was so proud of how i was bombing my drives high and super long. Now the main thing i did was slightly weaken my grip and started to perform a waggle before every swing. But just as fast as i had it, i lost it, but only on the course. I could still go to the range and hit good drives. But i kept on looking for hints because the miss i started to hit was a big snap hook. Then id go on the range and never hit a hook the whole time. I was so confused. What am i doing wrong, is it the grip, alignment, swinging too far in? So Id manipulate my body so that way i wouldnt hit it left, and i hit even more left. It made no sense. What i wasnt paying attention to is that i did everything youre saying to do. Except i kept my arms kind of loose. But everytime at the range i had the same setup and same range of motion and planes with the golf club. But i never looked at it from that aspect. To eliminate mistakes but thats what i was doing. I took a full swing at pretty good speeds not thinking anything of it. But i feel like if i implement this i can get that consistency back out on the course instead of just the range. Excellent video instruction. I took a 10 year break from golf, but recently wanted to start playing again. I’ve played two 9 hole rounds and, excuse my French, I sucked! I almost quit before I really got started. But, I thought now would be the perfect time to change my swing. I searched UKposts for “Easy repeatable Golf Swing”. Boom, there you were. I started watching your videos, but had to suffer through quarantine and couldn’t get to the range. I have been preaching in my backyard using the Single Plane Swing method. I can’t believe how much better I’m hitting the plastic balls! My quarantine ends next week so I’ll be on the course hitting for real. I can’t wait. I may have made similar comments on a previous video, I apologize. But, I could not believe how much more consistent I was in the backyard compared to my previous Golf Swing... which, again, sucked!!!

Yes I agree, it somehow takes the over-the-top swing out of the ball game. The swing has to shallow in the downswing because you're reaching out to the ball. For me it worked and it was instantaneous.

Hi Todd, I watched a lot of ur videos, there well layed out and very simple to follow. I used to play real golf but can't as much due to time, so I play a lot of pitch and putt, I started using the single plane a few weeks ago on the drive (54° wedge), I has improved my game immensely, 2 problems I have is most of videos are on about driver and irons, so I tryed my best to adapted to my wedge, my second problem is that when I try to go long (60 to 90 merter) I am pulling it to the left, it is fine short to medium length (20 to 60 meters)drives pretty straight actually and the weight isn't too bad, any tips would be helpful. keep the good content coming

I have always wondered about hand position. High, low, in the middle. A few times I have tried the single plane without knowing the name for it but assumed it had to be wrong since no one taught it. At the range yesterday I decided to try it again. I hacked about a dozen terrible shots. Then stopped thinking about it and just used the single plane setup and used my regular swing. I hit every club in my bag and it was effortless connecting solidly. No worry about inside out or any other movements I have been taught. Just turn and hit. With just that small change I felt more compact and not all over the place trying to hit the slot. I have not tried keeping my back foot down so for now the swing is still conventional except for the setup. I figure one small change at a time. I have watched Moe videos before but never understood what he was doing different. You videos are great in explaining what he was doing. I spin out a lot as I straighten my front leg and wondering if I am able to hold my back foot down if that might stop it. Now that I am watching again I have no idea how you can keep your back foot down. Or am I misunderstanding something. I am 65. I am thin and still have the ability to get a full range of motion but over time I know that will go away. This swing looks like it should make those older with less flexibility be able to keep hitting as there is less moving parts. Any thought on that.

You didn't talk about the left forearm variable which I heard Bryson say took out the inconsistency of his accuracy. He supinates his left forearm (rotates to left max) ...so he wont have issues closing the face at different rates and amounts . If he has his forearm more turned right (pronated) his arm is not at end range and timing gets involved with squaring the club face. From this position you can get flippy with the left forearm through the hitting area

This really helped me thankyou! Been losing my way with driving always dreaded teeing off as a prolific slicer. I tried all sorts of swings tried swinging slow loose all were inconsistent for me. Went to the range yesterday hit some balls using this technique and really went after it and they were going straight far took this on the course straight after and found some new confidence in driving. One little swing thought which helped me on the follow through was to lift hands up high as I ltjink I have the tendancy to release left putting left to right spin on the ball. This was allowing me to launch them straight 👍 Appreciate this thankyou

I really like your videos! I'm slowly trying to find my way towards a single plane swing. I did notice a funny thing when looking at some of my old shots, that in the past I've actually had pretty close to a single plane swing, but not being aware of it and still tried to solve my problems with more common tought methods. I feel like I'm on the right track now! I know it is not necessary, but I've even gone for a set of Cobra King Forged One Length clubs, and I'm waiting the delivery of JumboMax Ultralite XL grips. I tried the JumboMax-grip on my old 7-iron first, and I think that will be a great addition to all my clubs. Chipping with that 7-iron feels so good that I can't wait to get the same feeling with all my irons. One thing in particular that I liked about this video was your point about the overrated thing of being relaxed. Being relaxed for me is something that works on a lucky day, then it is easy to praise it as a good thing. But on an average day when that relaxed setup and swing fail, and the temper heat up, the blame often falls on "I'm not relaxing!". When it's really just proof of inconsistency in the swing. Sadly I hurt my back on the course a week ago and I'm so eager to get back out there and continue forward. The new grips should arrive during the week, and the week after my vacation starts. I've played golf on and off since I was 10 (I'm 34 now) and I've never been more excited about the game. I do look a lot at Bryson, and I feel that watching your videos which are explaining more about the details of the single plane swing is really going to make a difference for me.

I "switched" to this Single Plane swing after our lockdown (from about August 2020) after reading your book review and fell in love with this single plane, AGAIN. I am a Bryson fan now but always was a Moe Norman fan BUT couldn't grasp his "positions" - you clarified them now. I am still not consistently straight but when it "comes together" it feels amazing. I used to hit them slightly left but a comment I saw when you explained the "slightly-still-open-face" just before impact might solve this for me. Thanks for the change you inspired in my golf and this pocket guide is a great help. keep up the good work, Regards. Keith Els

You are right Todd in what you say that the single plain is the only way to swing the club and have consistency! I started late in life in playing golf and just like you in your younger days I got frustrated in wondering why one can't be consistent! I was 21 when I took the game up, am now 69 and now playing my best golf ever due too watching your video's - and Moe's! But still I was not consistent as there were times I was pulling the ball left! I clicked onto Brystons grip video and he showed us how one should hold the grip in the left hand which stops one pulling the ball left - ever!! I tried this grip and it changed my game! When you think of it - put your hands down by your side and look down at them - the v of your thumb and forefinger points to your shoulders! Yet golf tips on the net tell us to have our Vs pointing to our right shoulder! You are a great instructor Todd who does not need a board too read off as you have all this knowledge stored inside of you desperate to inform the world and that is what I love about you as you inform us viewers with your heart behind in what you are trying too put across to golfers and I can assure you - we hear and feel you! these just keep getting better. i've seen BDC 4 times at the st jude classic in memphis & he pures it like you wouldn't believe. for years i'd have golfing friends (& some actual teaching pros) tell me that one would lose distance using the single plane swing (not true) but now i just point to BDC - currently the longest driver on tour by some 30-40 yards - and that usually ends the argument. i've seen moe norman in person in florida back in 1999; he was 68-69 at the time and was hitting it with driver ~ 250/260 which was impressive for his age. all drives went dead straight, too. keep these coming and thanks todd.
