I came across this technique about 6 months ago and have been absolutely fascinated by it. This tutorial is a excellent introduction. Better then the ones I have found before. I found that the thinner working of mitsuro hikime makes for more interesting shapes and striations but a poorer quality ring. What I have taken to doing is filling in the inside of the ring with a low temperature wax, or wrapping the mitsuro hikime on a ring of soft wax to give it more body. I have also tried wrapping stones and other things that can be cast in place with mixed results, but have been able to create some nice interesting pendents and pins. Also, there is a very good recipe for creating this wax using resin (rosin), a sticky wax and a very soft low temp wax. I have made a few batches and while it is a little tricky to get the consistency right, I have had some excellent results.

There are some great ideas in here David, thank you so much for sharing. I am going to try to add a soft wax ring on the inside. So you will see your tip in an upcoming tutorial! :-)

@@BrokigSilver My family is from Sweden, but about 2 generations out. There are very few Bohlin's in the USA, which is where I am, but I understand there are more in and around Oslo. To elaborate on the casting in place. I have experimented with some stones and the Mitsuro Hikime using investment and a centrifuge pour. This is only a hobby for me, but I have been doing it as a hobby for a long time. So, not a lot of skill, but I do play with different techniques often. The biggest issue I found with casting in place is pieces cracking. I did one CZ that shattered internally but remained intact otherwise. It was really quite beautiful, but I doubt repeatable

Couple of days ago, I watched a program called" a day life of a jeweller" in youtube, There is one episode called" beeswax jewellery,Japanese ink, ..". this Japanese jeweller uses this ancient wax to make jewellery. I am very happy that you interduced this technique to us, looks very interesting. Also thanks for the name of the casting company, very useful.

When I want the wax to hold its form, I will place it near my wife's cold feet. In all seriousness, this is a great product. I see lots of possibilities. I have not heard of it until now, so you get credit for introducing me. Thank you. I like how they attached the sprue on the inside of the ring. Great touch! If the casting price is economical enough, I could see making a nice chain with soldered links connecting thinner versions of these. The cloth-like texture is gorgeous.

love it! That wax looks identical in texture to some molding wax my son received as a gift when he was a child. There are a few colors of it and it apparently lasts forever! It's hard when cold, and warms up and gets flexible as you manipulate it. In fact I still have it, and I know where it is! Maybe I should see what can be done with it. :)

Thank you for the nice video:) I have already ordered some Mitsuro Vax, and i am exited to try. A question to you: how do you stamp the silverstamp and namestamp on this sort of organic surface . I find it so hard to add the silverstamp and namestamp so hard on more organic forms and shape.
@Estona.Jewelry.Tutorials
@Estona.Jewelry.Tutorials 2 місяці тому
I try to find a spot where I can place my stamp. But I believe that the stamp is a lot bigger in other countries. In the Netherlands the maker stamp is about a mm big (or small). So it's very easy to find a place where to add it.

@@Estona.Jewelry.TutorialsYou would have to make the whole shape as one piece a bit like wax and then bake it in the oven so it is hard enough for casting.
