Impeachment: American Crime Story examines the national crisis that led to the first impeachment of a U.S. President in over a century through the eyes of the women at the center of the events: Monica Lewinsky, Linda Tripp and Paula Jones. All three were thrust into the public spotlight during a time of corrosive partisan rancor, shifting sexual politics and a changing media landscape.

Same way they did it to Brandon Dassey. And well, many people. Intimidation, half-truths, saying "you can, but this would go so much better if..." etc. Most people aren't aware of their rights, or easily intimidated. Cops bank on that. When dealing with a situation where you find yourself in immediate legal peril with an officer, ask if you're being detained. If they say no, ask if you're free to go. If you are being detained, you don't talk. Affirmatively invoke your 5th amendment right to remain silent, and keep asking to speak to an attorney.

Maybe it didn't happen the way FX is spinning it. We only have one person's recounting, ML, of what went on. Her former lover prior to Clinton said that she had a real problem with the truth. Skepticism is not such a bad attribute in this crazy world.

@@EV-wp1fj I would not know what to do if I was ever detained like that. Can I leave? Should I leave? When can I ask for an attorney? I don't think I am different from most Americans in this type of situation. Intimidation is a powerful weapon.

@@clariceonline9757 She was in that hotel room for 12 hours. TWELVE. You think she sat in a hotel room with a bunch of FBI agents all that time because she wanted to? You think the FBI takes someone to a hotel room without prior notice for any other reason than strong-arming and intimidation? "Skepticism" is the new term for "I want to change reality to what I believe". It's why we now have flat-earthers and QAnon.

From the Toobin book: "Ginsburg represented Lewinsky from January to June 1998 and through his incessant appearances on television became one of the most familiar faces in the country. Because of his ubiquity on the airwaves, Ginsburg made the transition from conscientious advocate to national joke faster than almost anyone in history. But if he mangled his role as a public spokesman - a business associate once described him as "an ego with a digestive system" - he also did a better job for his client than he was generally given credit for. Indeed, Ginsburg's epitaph might come out of Monty Python: "I may be an idiot, but I'm no fool."

This episode gave me goosebumps, watching what Monica had to endure, whilst the President continued to receive 'Presidential' treatment all the way through - and he is still well regarded today despite what he did!
