Roy benivedez story is so much more miraculous than told here. He flew in with nothing but a knife and rescued all the men in 6 hours all alone. It's a miracle story and the inspiration for Rambo! He entered the special forces after stepping on a land mine and being told he'd never walk again. The guy is a beast.

benevidez survived 37 bullet holes, 3 grenades and 9 stab wounds but died from a sugar cube in his coffee...

what about Desmond Doss the medic that saves over 200 lives and never killed or even picked up a gun.

I was blown away by the fact that he died in 1929 and didnt receive recognition until 2003 and 2015 respectively. Instantly brought tears to my eyes he deserved recognition while he was alive!!

My grandpa was always proud that he served with Daniel Inouye, who fought in the 442nd combat unit in Europe during WWII. He'd been shot trying to take a village but still cleared out machine gun nests with grenades and a gun. He was priming another grenade when he lost an arm from a German grenade. He pried the live grenade from his mangled arm and threw it with his good one. He then continued trying to fight, but was shot again and blacked out. When he awoke, the medics at the field hospital didn't want to risk surgery, but he insisted on it anyway. He was so souped up on morphine that he underwent surgery without sedation. He survived and went on to become a senator for Hawaii.

For the Custer story about capturing flags it is important to understand that capturing a units flag typically routed the entire unit because the flag was used to rally forces and organize the force for battle. So by capturing the flag, Custer essentially broke the enemy’s ability to put up organized resistance as a military unit.

My favorite medal of honor is the story of John Chapman.

That guy who jumped over the grenade saving his mates reminds me of my great grandpa who was in Finnish Navy in WW2. He also saved 7 of his fellow soldiers when grenade was thrown to the deck of their vessel. He was the only one who saw it and jumped straight in front of it and survived. He was so full of shrapnels that he was rushed into hospital as soon as possible and even there the surgeons couldn’t remove all of ’em but he lived. Eventually he died 3 months before I was born due the one of the remaining shrapnel finding it’s way into his heart. May he rest in peace. Kiitos.

No Mike Murphy? Lone survive? Man walked out into the dead open on a cliff to call for extraction so the rest of his men wouldn't die.

I can’t believe they left out Audie Murphy, the most decorated soldier the world has ever seen. He received every single award that was available at the time for his bravery.

Daniel Inouye. Cleared machine gun nests in WWII. Had his arm severed while trying to throw a grenade and pried it from his own dead hand and threw it with his other. Then continued to move forward and attack with one arm. After the war served in the US Senate for 49 years.

I met a Medal of Honor recipient. His name was woody and he went to my school. He was a marine in WW2 who was attacking iwo jima and his Blatton was sorounded but he took a flamethrower and attack several bunkers that were raining fire down on the American troops. In doing this he was able to safely get all the American troops safely onto the island

I like how Benavidez was said to not have a weapon when he got onto the helicopter in the video specifically about him. But in this one he had a Rifle on his back lol I love you guys!

MSgt John Chapman, US Air Force CCT, battle of Roberts Ridge... as an Airman myself, MSgt Chapman is all i can aspire to be in the sense of his determination and perseverance at the call to duty... his MOH is the first scenario where it was recorded and is available to watch on UKposts... I recommend watching it to really get a grasp on how legendary he was

Henry Johnson wasn't the first African American to win the Medal of Honor. It was during the Civil War by William H. Carney when he was seriously wounded protecting his regimental colors falling into enemy hands during the Battle of Fort Wagner. Which was a huge moment of pride in those days

These military stories are always awesome to watch. And they are testament to the courage, resilience, bravery and "never day die" attitude of United States soldiers. I'm not even from the USA (I'm from Australia) but it is impossible not to be in awe of the soldiers of the US military.

Vernon Baker was my granddad, and growing up he didn't really talk about his life in the military much (other than when he showed me that badass blue medal, of course. Lol). When my dad was a drill Sargent he would tell recruits bed time stories about medal of honor winners. He got a citation, the good kind, for finding a new way to teach morals to recruits.

I recently found out I had relatives that fought at the battle of little big horn under general Custer. One even won the medal of honor. Benjamin Criswell was his name. I had no idea. Not many are given out so when a soldier gets this award its saying ALOT! We're so lucky to have soldiers like this guy on our side. Thanks to ALL who have fought for our country.

ROY BENAVIDEZ, NOT BENITEZ!!! I met that man in San Antonio. He was humble, self-effacing and funny. His example of heroism and leadership were told and retold even when I was a young man, and I'm over 60 now.

I don't get emotional to a lot of things but hearing about these always brings me to tears

I'm surprised the MOH recipient who's actions were caught on satellite video didn't make this list. That video documented that guys superhuman and selfless actions and was incredibly sad at the same time

There was a airmen back in 2004 who saved not only his whole squad while trying to recover the body of a fallen seal in the afganistan mountains but also the entire rescue team that was sent to rescue him after his team managed to escape down the mountain. The where ambushed in the pitch black taking heavy fire from 2 bunkers filled with Taliban soilders in waist deep snow while his team ran to what little cover they could fine, John Chapman mad a dash for the first bunker he was under point blank AK47 fire before climbing into the bunker and killing one of the two men in hand to hand combat and then killing the other with his gun. During this he suffered more then one gun shot to the chest and stab wounds causing chapman to fall incapacitated. believing chapman was dead his squad leader called AC-130 fire directly on and around the first bunker which chapman was in, for 5 minutes chapman was experiencing the assault of the ac130 first hand but once the fire had ended he came to and emerged from the bunker taking point on a near by boulder still fighting back as the rescuse chopper for him was shot down by RPGs like the chopper he arrived on as the men came out multiple where fatally shot but Chapman distracted the enemy long enough for the crew to get to safety. Chapman had been fighting for over 12 hours at this point his ammo was running low and he had more then 17 gunshot and shrapnel wounds. To quote the video of this action that was shown "Chapman's body was already in the process of dying" he managed to hold off for a little while longer after the men made it to safety before being shot directly in the heart killing him instantly. This was not only one of few times someone was award 2 medals of honor (he got his first one from storming the bunker the second was for giving his life to protect his fellow soilders) but he was also the first airmen to receive a medal of honor In i believe it 13 years. But it doesnt end there it was also the first Time the actions that get someone those medals where recorded.

Audie Murphy, the most decorated soldier of World War II who was, shortly after the war, the most popular man in America. Look up his MOH story as it makes all these seem small.

Man from my town, Dedham Mass, John Barnes did the same as the #6. Jumped on a Grenade in Nam'. We have our main field where we have every event at named Memorial Field and we have a nice memorial for him. A hero beyond words.

Navy Chief Special Warfare Operator Collin T. Thomas was a hero as well. He gave his own life to save and protect his teams lives by flanking the enemy in battle in Afghanistan.

A lot of people don’t know but these awards usually take a very long time to get approved, mostly because they go through strict vetting and background check everything involving the event. It took my friend (David Bellavia) about 14 years for his to get approved and his actions were even partially caught on film, and it still took that long. It’s usually a very long process.

Bryant Womach, a hero, a legend, and a man who did get a movie made about him, the only man to fight a war never lifting a firearm, the only soldier who was a passifist, a man who passed in the line of duty never having killed an enemy soldier, but having saved thousands of his own. honestly from the new zealand army back in ww1 my dad told me about his grandad he was fierce and instead of bringing a gun he brang a taiaha a maori weapon and killed 60+ people with it and injured lots by himself while the rest were fighting he deserved the metal of honor tbh one of his friends were there and told my dad about him but he died with no trace and yet to be found

loved this piece, but have to mention Audie Murphy as one of my favorites! If you don't know any of his story check into it, it's a good read! Also like to mention how it brings tears to my eyes to read about those who received the MOH posthumously after 50-60-70 years afterwards simply because they were not the right color, never even truly considered for it just because they were not white, simply rejected, sad!!!!

MSgt Benavidez spat on the Doctor trying to zip up his body bag because he was wounded so much that he didn't have the strength to even whisper or whimper and that was the only thing he could do to let them know he was still alive. He did not spit on his fellow soldiers for no reason.

Roy should be top 5 if anything because his story is unreal.

My great uncle PFC. Charles R. Johnson KIA in Korean war saving multiple lives while ignoring his own injuries and enemy fire.(06/12/1953) Silver Star, Medal of Honor, and Purple heart recipient. Never got to meet him but he was a great american just like these people in the video and im proud to be his nephew.

Here’s one Ben L. Salomon, during WW2 he served as a frontline surgeon. During the battle for Saipan he was doing his job when the Japanese launched a sudden attack on the American lines. Very quickly Salomon’s aid station came under attack as the Japanese broke through, realizing that his patients would end up massacred he ordered the station evacuated and manned a heavy machine gun alone. He killed 98 Japanese soldiers before succumbing to numerous wounds. We was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in 2002
