There are a lot of robots in car production for decades, you show them in nearly every production video. Staff costs are around 15% of production costs in car manufacturing. Not „enormous“.

@@toddpillow3074 One of my pet predictions is that A.I. will replace executives before it replaces a lot of middle level employees. Decisions like "We should invest in a Model 2 before trying to build humanoid robots when other companies have a 20-year head start." is the type of management decision an A.I. with no ego would make. It would be a lot better for customers and shareholders.

Imagine either owning or renting a robot for the home that would straighten up, dust, vacuum, clean the bathrooms and the kitchen, and do it every single day while you are out of the house. It could wash and put away the dishes. Maybe cook your meals. Do your laundry. Think about how that could help the elderly to stay in the family home they can no longer keep up but want to stay in. Think about how much family or roommate drama that would eliminate. Price competition and manufacturing advances could drive the price of such a robot to down around $10K or less. Or it could be rented or perhaps done on a visiting basis once or twice a week. It seems like there might be a market for such a device...

For the robots to workout without bringing about global poverty is likely going to be quite tough unless the robots are working for the displaced workforce and earning them wages. Realistically if AI starts replacing White Collar workers and Robots replace Blue Collar workers then nobody will be able to earn wages and continue to be consumers except for those making money off AI and Robots so basically just business owners and investors. Without a large base of consumers then whats the point of having AI and Robots producing products that there are no longer any consumers for. Yes it all seems wondrous at first however how do they make this work out to support a human population on the earth without tossing out the entire financial model we are currently operating under. Do earnings, banking, loans, investments, budgets, etc become superfluous with everyone getting their ration of food, clothing, housing, medical care, water, electricity, etc, etc provided by AI and Robots? Yes this will seem profitable at first but then as we reach the saturation point where Robots have taken over the workforce what then? How long after that before AI decides the most efficient course will be to have the Robots Phase Out Humans? Best!

It is hard to teach vehicles how to navigate and travel on the roads and highways, but that task is minute when compared to teaching Optimus to navigate and travel in the human environment. The robots will need to learn their way through small defined areas like factories until their sensors and ability to identify and understand the outside world has vastly improved. These are like the robots Isaac Asimov wrote about; even the self-driving car, “Sally”. These "trolls" could never have imagined desk-top computers and the internet, which were predicted as early as 1946 by Murray Leinster, “A Logic Named Joe”.

Less human jobs will have a direct effect on people not having the income to buy the products these robots make. Also self driving cars will see millions out of a job. I believe uber is moving towards all driver less vehicles asap. The scale of both will have massive consequences on populations around the world and their lifestyle moving forward. All these forecast on sales will crash as population will not have the income to buy them.
@toddpillow3074
@toddpillow3074 16 днів тому
What would be the basis for believing that humanoid bots can compete with humans??? A bot will cost a lot to buy and maintain whereas humans can be used, abused and thrown away. People somewhere will aways be desperate and work under poor conditions for very little. Besides, if bots did replace human workers then there would be fewer humans with the money to consume products built by bots.

The thing is, the labourers in the labour market use their earnings to buy stuff. All those 'savings' are coming out of the economy. Our current political system doesn't account for that.

Nonsense. Humanoid robots are a gimmick and have no practical purpose. Robots made for a production lines are designed and built for specific tasks and have been for decades. Humanoid robots wandering around a production floor looks cool but cannot possibly serve any useful purpose as they lack the stability and power to perform any task. One of these humanoid robots is simply going to fall over trying to use a power tool or lift a heavy component. In other words, the humanoid form is totally unsuitable for almost all tasks in a factory.

Will robots and AGi happen, absolutely, will global labour reduce to near zero, almost certainly. The questions I am left with is, how do we pay our bills with no jobs, where will Universal Basic Income come from? Will the companies replacing our jobs with robots now voluntarily donate money to a population to do nothing?

@davidinkster1296
@davidinkster1296 18 днів тому
This is truly huge, if it can be done. But Elon is (perhaps inadvertently) undermining the capitalist system he admires, because if these bots take over many manufacturing jobs, countries will have to adopt a Universal Basic Income for everyone, so that the daily job will disappear unless human workers are paid enough to make working more attractive than leisure. The UBI is not pure fantasy; I believe it is already under discussion in more progressive societies such as Norway.
