Great job and a creative solution! If I may offer you a bit of advice, the less overhang in front of the bearing the more rigid your setup will be and less runout to contend with. I really like your adjustable collet design, I may have to build one and try that out. Thanks for sharing.
@emilioarroyomohamed2 місяці тому
Yep, i should had clamped directly on the ferrule. This is a test of the lathe i did two years ago. Since then i have become more technical. Thank you for your feedback

Good job. Where can you buy the machine?
@jacquescote96052 місяці тому
thats not a bad little lathe ya got there. seems to have the proper adjustments and good RPM`S.... i would however add a steady bearing to the center of the shaft to eliminate the chatter and the blades you are using to shape yer tips, i would go to a blade that is only sharpened from one side. Your centering with the adjustable colletts and the dial indicator is bang on... very few cue repair guys use them or dont even know how to do that. It comes in really handy when someone wants a shaft repaired that is sanded or worn out of round... I`ve been doing repairs and making cues for 40 years on my own DIY lathe... 2 thumbs up from me!
@emilioarroyomohamed2 місяці тому
I was going to build a center support with a couple of skateboard wheels but i never did it. Now i only use carbide tooling for the tips, you can see the attachment at the center-low of the video at the beginning. For some reason they dont come really sharpened, i have to sharpen them myself. I will show the attachments in a video. Thank you for your feedback.

Great machine! What kind of profile are your aiming for your tip radiuses? Did you develop that gauge by yourself? I'm curious, i never founs good information on how to diy that
@emilioarroyomohamed3 місяці тому
Yes that gauge is a 3d printed part that i did using freecad and my 3d printer. It has 4 radiuses,: D, P, N, Q. Which correspond to the radius of 4 us dollar coins, Dime, Penny, Nickel and Quarter. Is an old system most pool players use.

Great machine... How can I order that?
@allenhammond61722 місяці тому
Very nice! Do you have any issues with leaving marks on the shaft when you are tightening it down with the set screws?
@emilioarroyomohamed2 місяці тому
No, the tightening forces are very small and the inside of the collet is tapered to match the profile of the shaft so the lip inside the collet makes a lot of surface contact with it. Ofc after 3d printing it you have to make sure there is not bumps inside and sand off any irregularity if there is any. In doubt one can always put a piece of paper or vynil tape and choose a collet size a bit bigger.

@kingofcastlechaos3 місяці тому
Neat, but I strongly suggest that you make a proper holder for your razor blade. If you were to get a catch on the work that blade can pivot in many different ways- most of them bad for your health. I have done woodworking lathe work for over 40 yrs and a few decades of that working on whippy work like pool cues, and have had many close calls. Work safe!
@emilioarroyomohamed3 місяці тому
