What made Norm special is that the glint in his eyes and his childish yet devilish grin was for his amusement and his ALONE! Norm could careless if the joke was not found to be funny by the people, he simply told these long drawn out stories for his inner child self. His goal was to make himself smile and that's what separated him from other comics. Norm was a Top 10 comedian in my view. Norm Macdonald's segment on the roast of Bob Sagat has to be one of the greatest routines EVER. The producers told him to be as raunchy and filthy as he could be, much like every other comedians they have on the roasts. So what does Norm do? He literally does one amazing old dad joke after another. Half the crowd has no idea what's going on but all the real comedians knew exactly what he was doing, he killed the room without using 1 cuss word or 1 dirty joke, absolutely classic.

I'm impressed as all hell that this video started with Norm basically paraphrasing Richard Dawkins of all people. The thesis statement is basically, "Quit whining about how you're going to die because you don't realize how lucky you were to be alive at all."
@yetiornot5726Рік тому
My favorite band Nightwish incorporated that into the songwriter's magnum opus, "The Greatest Show on Earth" (shout out to Tuomas Holopainen). At the end is a recording of Dawkins explaining that, considering we're literally one of millions of sperm who made it, we "won the lottery of birth", and, "How *dare* we whine at our inevitable return to that prior state, from which the vast majority have never stirred?"
