A better design for a void trap is to make a system to remove the block you spawn on using a piece of string to trigger an observer which then cuts off power to a sticky piston which then pulls back the block you spawn on.

pog trap but the problem you faced in the contraption was that the piston was above the observer causing chief to crawl like you did using trap door to break bedrock. so if you keep the observer above it then it'll work properly and chief will get yeeted easily
