I agree it's so strange.. its like they wait till they have fully reached their potential and then teams have to fork out £60-70million. Get them early, you can tell this kids gonna be good.

It’s because u can’t judge how players will perform in big leagues by their performance in smaller or weaker leagues. We all thought hauge was world class until he went to Milan. Depay in psv looked like the next ronaldo until he went to man United. Big clubs would rather wait and buy a ready player for 70 million than pay 20-30 million and lose their investment.

It's about consistency and development, big teams are not gonna buy a young player who's been good 1 season in a weaker league, just because they're good at a young age doesn't mean they'll be stars...

They also want to see how he develops as a person, character is also an important factor

It's not that easy though. You can't be sure that they really are that good until they play in a top league. Even then, like with Haaland, they will probably prefer to go to a club like Dortmund to play regularly and grow instead of going to a big club as soon as possible (Bellingham also had a lot of offers from big clubs but chise Dortmund).
