What is fascinating is to see Rafa and Federer dominating their opponents in spite of their ages. It's not only a victory, it is a demolition. Tennis will never be the same without those 2 greatest.

For me Djokovic is missing right now from that mix - The Big 3 (give him a bit more time as he started showing moments of brilliance in this MC event). His matches with both Fed and Nadal provided the greatest excitements and their head to head will be the most dominant in tennis along with some of the greatest matches of all time.

man bat Federer's success in the last 12 months is mostly circumstantial.In the last two grand slams he won he was mostly playing nobodies until the finals.And in the finals both Cilic and Chung were injured.And he didn't have to spend much energy to get to the finals.If he has to beat Murray Djokovich and Wawrinka to get to the finals he won't have as much left in the tank as last year.

Gasquet vs. Alex Zverev. Ends after a never ending match point... i think i've already seen that last year xD Ps: I am very glad to see Nishikori back. He is one of my favourite players. I hope he will be at final with Rafa.

Rafa is playing even better than 2017. How many comebacks has this guy completed and came out better the other side? He’s the comeback king. He’s the king of clay and he’s going to win MC and 2 other clay tournaments this year ( think Barcelona, Rome and RG)

On one side it's amazing to still be able to watch Rafael Nadal further cement his status as the best ever on clay winning more clay tournaments showing his power and determination. You have to appreciate greatness regardless. On the other, his matches become absolutely boring since it's absolute domination and there is no competition whatsoever from the first point played to the last. The crowd seemed to be quite bummed after that display.

Weren't you listening to the crowd halfway the second set? They wanted to see more tennis... People pay to watch a well contested battle between two players. Imagine paying/gathering with friends/sitting as a football fan to see the superbowl and the final score is 55-6. Would it be exciting to watch? No. Same with any sport.
@trevorlongley8995
@trevorlongley8995 6 років тому
Samy_Jonas Not true. People want their team/favourite player to win and even better if its a rout or demolition. Only neutral spectators or casual fans want to see a well contested battle as you say.

We all know there is no one who can beat Nadal on clay when Nadal is fit and healthy. It proves how far Djokovic is from his best when Thiem beat him but got thrashed by Nadal. Without Murray, Wawrinka and Djokovic to offer any opposition it will be a procession of victories for the Spaniard. He’s simply too good.

Pussy? You're talking about Federer, right? Why don't you play professional tennis at the age of 36? And then talk shit. Oh that's right. I forgot who the real pussy was.
@unowen7591
@unowen7591 6 років тому
It's not good judging anyone until understanding them, you fruit cake. He "dodges" tournaments because he doesn't want to hurt his body anymore, reasonably considering he's 36 years old. But I supposed someone like you wouldn't understand. Why post this link? So you can try and prove yourself? Federer says he "wants to." OK? That's like me saying I *want to* travel the world, but I know I can't because my body can't handle it. I felt like I said that before. Am I repeating myself here?

He's got some more maturing to develop, but I think he is one right track. He has already made 3 masters 1000 finals, and 4 semifinals at the ago of 20 years. Nadal said in 2017 AO post press conference after he beat Zverev, thinks "he has amazing potential and he believes he (zverev) will do it" [win big titles in the future]. I think he has another 4 or so years to develop mentally and physically. Federer also thinks he has the right stuff to do it.

I wish Novak was in better form. I guess it takes time. But its nice to see Nishikori back in top form. That challenger series run did him well and his new coach must be excited. I really like the love on the court...." no hard feelings see you on the court next time" kinda vibe. This is not boxing.

The GOAT debate is still wide open and even as a Nadal fan I'd still give a slight advantage to Federer right now. But when it comes to clay courts, no one has ever been this dominant on any surface. In the form he is right now, he may well cruise the whole clay season without dropping a single set. Even with Federer or Djokovic in their full prime, the winner of Roland Garros was rather decided by how fit Nadal was at the moment. The best example of this is the 2008 final, when a prime Federer was only able to win 4 games throughout the whole match. Thiem might become the next top clay player, but he still has to wait a few more years for that.
