I lived in Napoli for 3 years when my husband was stationed in the military. I fell in love with the people and the culture. I would have stayed if I could have afforded it. Such beauty all around, the scenery. The people the best in the world. So humble and down to earth. My family especially my children were embraced and welcomed as family. I left my heart and loved ones there. I miss it all so much.

Yeah, Naples is a great city! I worked at the military base there for 8 years. Maybe it's time you come back .You can afford it here. :) An apartment in Naples rents for $500 a month. I am here with my mom right now and she is in shock at how cheap things are at the grocery store.

@@ginlynh1229 I was going to answer but it’s been years since I was there. Instead I suggest you google or most importantly join the social media groups who have visited there recently. My major suggestions is to try to fit in with the locals. Don’t look like a tourist. Immerse yourselves into the culture. Learn the language enough to communicate and understand what is important. Keep your wallets/money close to you. Ride the monorail as many places as possible. Enjoy yourself and sightsee. If you are going in February propose or have a second honeymoon. Valentine’s Day is wonderful and romantic there! Go skiing, visit the Vatican if you are Catholic. Visit the museum and cathedrals. The statues, natural history sites.

My father was in the US Navy and was stationed in Napoli for three years, so I lived just a short drive outside the city from the ages of 11 to 13. This makes me very nostalgic for those years. My love for history was formed by visits to places like Pompeii, Herculaneum, and the Royal Palace at Caserta. It was a wonderful place to spend some of my childhood years.

@@ProWalks Cool! Close to Carney Park? When we lived there, we were in a small parco next to Lago Patria. There was an ancient ruins called Liternum (although I didn't know the name until years later) that was maybe a quarter mile from my house, and my friends and I would play there and pretend we were ancient Romans or archeologists. Once we found a small collection of ancient coins, and I think my friends' dad contacted a local museum about what should be done with them. That was one of the major highlights of my childhood, playing in that neighborhood and imagining what the area must have been like two thousand years ago! I had a special sense of awe when we visited Pozzuoli because it is mentioned in the Bible as Puteoli (from the account of Paul's journey to Rome),and once someone pointed out that connection to me, it seemed absolutely wild that I could be standing on the same spot where someone I had read about, who died hundreds of years before I was born, might have also walked over. That was mind-blowing for 11 year old me. (It's still mind-blowing for 61 year old me! 😂)
@ProWalks
@ProWalks 2 місяці тому
Yeah, I'm near Carney right now...actually, just across the street from the Amphitheater. We lived in Teverola when we were here. That is a pretty cool story about the coins! Yeah, I was really excited to go down and see the monument to Paul here in Pozzuoli when we first got here. Pretty cool. I'm heading down to that spot in just a few minutes to go find some dinner. :)

Love Naples. Joined UK walking tour the Ramblers ( our one week base was Vico Equense ) and walked through certain part of the city. Love the vibrant market. Huge whole tuna. Toto’s music in the air. Just ok with the Neapolitan coffee . Unfortunately hubby had a one day GI , abruptly stopped our one day Naples excursion, ‘carried’ him all the way back to our Vico Equense hotel via commuter train, where he threw up into his Gap cap!! Love to revisit Naples one day!
