@AndyB1286Рік тому
Great music by Moby, and timeless singing by Vera Hall. I'm glad her wonderful voice was captured on tape, giving modern-day listeners an insight into the very hard lives that folks - especially black folks - led in the 1930s.
@valleyoclarity7635Рік тому
thank you bc in 20 years of listening to this, I never knew Vera Hall's name - it's a major problem that he never credited the voices who gave his music the soul it has.
@kamiyama-chairdesklampРік тому
@@valleyoclarity7635 I KNOW RIGHT? I mean, I'm familiar with some of that time (from my country as well as the bigger English language names that got exported) because of my dad, but just not this singer or song, and honestly, since I'm in a New Age mood at the moment and that's basically what this song feels like to me, I feel mentioning the genre's love of ripping off POC is *extremely* relevant. See Deep Forest's "Sweet Lullaby." Except that couple was alive at the time of the plagiarism to sue them. (Never mind this comes from centuries of art doing the same thing; Van Gogh stole from Katusika Hokusai, all the way to today's "musicians" continuing to not *cover* Asian artists, but plagarise. (And yes, HUGE difference between the two)
@AndyB1286Рік тому
As a musician myself, I agree that anyone whose work is used on a song needs to be credited. I don’t know whether Moby actually ever credited Vera (or whether his record company did), but if they didn’t then that’s not fair. Plagiarism is theft of intellectual property, and not only is it wrong, but if you’re caught, it ruins your reputation. My biggest song on Spotify was a joint effort, and I made sure to mention my buddy who contributed to it. I keep offering to buy him six-packs of beer to say thanks, but he won’t listen 😁

It's a theory, I've heard different kinds of artists somewhat describe it themselves on occasion.. Maybe I shouldn't say all. The "suffer for your art" theory. It's something inside them that NEEDS to be expressed, a longing etc. Real artists can tap into it and articulate it beautifully

He never left your side. Our heavenly father still watches over us. They will ridicule us but that's to be expected. The dark realm is full of beasts and creatures that are just as lost as we were. Ask for his will and release the hatred from your heart. Those walls you put up are made of sand. It's time we stand again. It's time to walk amongst true humans again. Maneuver through these demons and they won't even see you.
