It's not a travel by current rules and their interpretation, but I too am tired of seeing it. (From everyone, not just Harden.) The interpretation of the gather is just ridiculous.

the resulting shot of one of these might look good on the highlights but, here in Europe, they will most certainly be called as travel 10/10 times. FIBA refs don't take these lightly

he's been doing this for years and every other player (steph, lebron, PG, KD, book, even role players) do this move every game. There is an art to it. The ball is not considered "gathered" until your hand is under the ball or you pick it up with both hands. When harden picks up the ball he is already stepping back and hopping into his jumpshot. Even after his stepback he is still allowed to pivot. Casual fans can be so stupid this move is even legal in high school.
