Excellent and very timely video. One important thing that was not mentioned is BT LE Audio very low latency. According to the standard, it shall be less than 20ms which is below the boundary (~50ms) where people may start noticing lip synchronization problems. This low latency together with the broadcast capability makes BT LE Audio a perfect solution for public venues replacing expensive in installation induction loops with low cost BT LE Audio transmitter boxes.

Wow, this is a great news. I wanted to have a Bluetooth hearing aid, where i can listen music while traveling to work on a train. The awkward thing is when i reach my workplace and my boss will just talk to me but i didnt wear my hearing aids because i am using a ear piece listening to music. I have to switch back to hearing aid and ask my boss again what he or she say. With this Bluetooth hearing aid, it just a switch. It life changing for me!!

I've had my current HAs for 8 years, and am itching to replace them... but I'm also wondering if this is a poor time to make a big investment given the likelihood that new technologies like more advanced BT codecs are going to become available soon. Since I have a history of getting very long life from my devices, am I going to be as frustrated to be using 2019/20-era HAs in 2025 as I was with my current HAs (which technically had "Bluetooth", but only via a neckloop device that never really worked...) in 2017? Are there new releases coming in early 2021 that are worth holding out for?

Great video Cliff as always you do such a superb job! I'm a long time wearer now of Bluetooth enabled devices. I loved my STARKEY HALO's (could stream to more than one device), and I'm happy with my current ReSounds as well, but they are a bit more limiting in terms of only one device connection at a time. Lately, they seem to know when I've moved from the phone to my I PAD but usually only finds one ear piece not both! Hey, I'm ready when this new LC3 technology is out, bring it on!

Does the Phonak Audeo Paradise 90 (rechargeable) as well as the Costco Signature 10.0T (basically same HA) have Broadcast ability? I was reading in the white papers on my KS10 that you can connect to 2 different devices at the same time. Some have said it is old codec, but not sure of the Bluetooth version of the Kirkland Signature 10 hearing aid. I believe it is not BT 5, but may be BT 4.2. ?

This LE audio will totY revolutionize hearing aids even more than deep neural learning as the impact will be instant. we've just had a meeting with hard of hearing people that took place on zoom, and my brother doesn't have an iPhone. He has an ipad, but the bluetooth audio was so bad. I would imagine with this new one, things will dramaticY improve. The wait has been too long as I first heard of this two years ago. Resound told me that their Resound ONE will support Bluetooth 5.2 in a later firmware update. Just because a device has a 5.2 chip doesn’t mean that they’ll support LE Audio. But Resound definitely would be one to support it as they mentioned that as a reason for a firmware update. I’m actually holding out as a rep told me that Resound ONE doesn’t have a microphone for phone calls. Thus, we would be required to use the phone microphone even though the new version of LE Audio would add support for that. So I’m waiting for the release of this technology and what manufacturers say when it’s released. I’m hoping in the next year we see products with it. I’ve personally decided that this is enough of a reason to pause upgrading my hearing aid, cochlear implant processor, cell phone, and laptop until 2022. But everyone must make their own decision. I heard from Oticon that they hoped to offer it as a firmware update with their latest hearing aids, but it requires the 5.2 Bluetooth chip to update it this way. So I’m guessing in 2022, we will hear more about adoption of this technology.

Could yo do a review on audio streaming through LC3? I have low hearing lows on higher frequencies, and thus only those frequencies are boosted through my hearing aid. Thus, my doubt is, whether when streaming music on a hearing aid that has been set up for my personal loss the music will sound on the whole frequency spectrum or only on the high ones (the ones being amplified for my loss). I don't think it was mentioned that LE Audio will not just be a hearing aid thing. It will also be for earbuds and wearables as well. Hearing aid users will be integrated into the mainstream at last. The LE Audio specification hasn't been ratified as yet, but Bluetooth 5.2 which is required for LE Audio to work is starting to appear in Bluetooth chips and even in hearing aids- the latest GE Resound, I believe. Once you've got Bluetooth 5.2 on your device we can hope that LE Audio is just a firmware update away. Note that devices without Bluetooth 5.2 will never be updated to LE Audio. No surprise there, but Oticon et al were never going to do that for you anyway. They've already got your money.

@onshisan
@onshisan 3 роки тому
I'm interested in a review (or, perhaps more likely, a debunking) of this product as well... especially because their marketing copy is carefully worded to avoid actually claiming that Calmer is proven to be effective. Instead, they tend to frame their product's potential effect on tinnitus as being a "surprise" to them, indicating that they "hope" that people will benefit from it. For example: "the way that Calmer has helped some people is an unexpected benefit and we are looking into why this is happening". One the one hand, this is more honest than making a straightforwardly baseless claim; on the other hand, it does show that they do not have a firm foundation for marketing this as a medical device that has been proven to relieve tinnitus (otherwise, they would do so).

This one ain't about politics or greed. It just isn't ready for prime time. Trust me, if it was all about greed, it would be available now with a bunch of issues. In fact, hearing aid manufacturers are starting to make their devices Future Proof so when it does become available, you won't need to purchase new devices. That is the opposite of greedy if you ask me.

Hi Cliff thanks for your reply to this. The reason why it makes me wonder, is that I've created a google alerts on LE Audio that I receive daily. And it talks about compannies like qualcom implementing this stuff. I really hope the hearing industry jumps on this. I'd say this would be the best thing for the decade maybe the century. Thanks again.

It seems the cochlear implant technology lags behind hearing aids and as someone that is a bilateral implant user, I look forward to this

I agree. It seems like most innovation originates in the Hearing Aid Industry and filters down to the Implant industry. Even though the same holding groups owns both.

Any Bluetooth 5.2 with LC3 hearing aids out there?
@cg1903
@cg1903 3 роки тому
Will be great to have Bluetooth 5.2 LE capable TVs when this finally rolls out. No more streamers... The majority of new TVs are already packing WiFi and BT for connectivity, but hearing aids BT is not detectable.

I'm looking forward to BT 5.2 being more open source if manufacturers allow it. Would be great to get rid of all streamers and just go direct.
