My last Wrangler was a POS but then I traded it for a Cherokee where I found out that they would not even honor the warranty and on my first oil change, they took out second gear making the car very dangerous too drive. I just sold my Grand Cherokee Overland and good riddance! It was full of surprises and none of them were good. They saw my leather dash peeling and initiated an order for a replacement, six months later they had amnesia and asked who I spoke to and claimed that if I didn’t get a recall notice then I had to pay for the replacement. That kind of customer care will get the death penalty from any of my future money.

@@Donkor640 sounds like a shady dealership. My dealership has honored everything under warranty til the day the warranty expired. they did a full radiator replacement (racoon tore it up) and they replaced the camshafts twice, all under warranty. @@CodeDonut Unfortunately it was out of warranty when this problem reared its head. When I went on the Jeep Cherokee forum there were a lot of people who were fighting the same battle while still under warranty. Since then it has been super reliable and the only major issue I had was rockers needed replacing due to the "Pentastar tick" at 120K. Even at $2500 that was only four or five car payments. There definitely seem to be "good" and "trouble" Wranglers. I think the key is finding a used one-owner vehicle two or three years old with 20-30K miles on it - usually means the previous owner was happy with it and it's one of the "good" ones. That way you wouldn't even need to take it anywhere to change the factory tires out to get the 37-inch tires on, get the gladiator lifted or change out the suspension for a better off road suspension because it would be all part of jeep off road packages. Jeeps problem with buyers is they are charging you for safety features that are standard on other companies. The bottom line is simple it's called the supply chain once again, add the economy. No car company is having a good sales year!

Great video. My new 2023 Trailhawk with 1700 miles has been in the shop for two weeks while corporate figures out the repair. Our new 2021 Rubicon went through a 6+ leaking roof fiasco which was eventually resolved. Strongly considering trading in my 23 trailhawk. Love Jeep, but again, not a great start! Subscribed.

I bought a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 certified used; somebody backed into it this was during the backlog of automobile parts and body shops being 6 to 8 months or more out so I traded it in on the 2020 WK2 Trailhawk. Three months after I got it one of the key fobs stopped functioning turned out to be a faulty RFID chip which means that you cannot use that key to enter the vehicle without setting off the alarm and activating the engine immobilizer. Luckily I did have a second key fob for the vehicle and I’ve been using that for seven months while I fight with the dealer that sold me the vehicle and Jeep corporate to get a new key fob. I am not the only one that has had these types of minor annoyances from Jeep dealers this is why I’m looking at buying a vintage 4x4 truck rather than keep the Jeep. For reference I am a full-time nomad overlander and content producer living in my Jeep Grand Cherokee.

it’s pretty simple Ben. They are overpriced. Stupid buyers will finance their lives away. It’ll be interesting to see which manufacturers move away from the dealership model in the coming years. That’s half the problem. Markups, terrible service departments, and shady sales tactics.
@josht717

Jeep's offerings were already wildly overpriced, and they are increasing pricing yet again?? It's no surprise that they aren't selling well. They are feeling emboldened by the 4xe Wrangler doing so well because of federal incentives and low lease costs the past 2 years, and they haven't had to deal with real competition because of Ford's manufacturing delays on the Bronco. I have a $59k MSPR 4xe that I leased for $460/mo with $0 down. If I were to finance it over 6 years in the same $0 down scenario it would cost me $900/mo. There's just no way that a Wrangler is worth that, and Jeep needs a reality check on their pricing for such a bare-bones vehicle.

As a long-time Jeep owner, I think you hit the nail on the head with “off-road adventure brand”. When I look at a Cherokee, Wagoneer, or Renegade I don’t think “off-road adventure vehicle” - I think “ugly station wagon”. I’m honestly not sure who they’re seeing as potential customers for those vehicles.

Guy at work with a 2022 Grand Cherokee V6 with 11k miles just blew his entire motor. Something was wrong after a dealer oil change. First the roller lifter(s) and rocker arm(s). Then this and that. Then Oops, need a NEW engine. A brand new engine was installed under warranty. Also, new catalytic converters under warranty. Took a little over a month for the work to be done as it was substantial.

My 2003 Liberty was sold off last year. I had 235,000 trouble free miles on it. Rust was the sole problem. I replaced it with a 2006 Liberty. I've enjoyed the 2006 for a little over a year and 20,000 trouble free miles. I like the old ones.

From my perspective there are a number of issues that Jeep is facing that is affecting their sales. Price, price, price. Jeep prices particularly on Wranglers have gone insane over the last 15-20 years. And by proxy so has the rest of Jeep’s lineup. The next issue is Jeep has built a reputation for off road performance, the Wrangler, Gladiator, and the higher trim versions of most other models still have great off-road capabilities, but when you look at the majority of Jeeps models and trims, they fall short, the Cherokee name congers visions of lifted XJs withe knobby tires tackling insane off-road terrain, but today’s Cherokee is not that and because of its design, never could be that, and the Compass and Renegade are even more useless. Even the legendary Grand Cherokee is not the vehicle it used to be, now sporting all wheel drive instead of the 4 wheel drive version of it’s past. The infusion of Fiat-Alfa DNA into the Jeep lineup has further watered down the lower half of Jeeps lineup, and well lets not sugarcoat it, the Compass and it’s twin the Patriot have always been absolutely terrible vehicles and never should have worn the Jeep name.

I agree with pretty much that you had to say on the Gladiator video as well. Especially the suggestion of adding a v8 to the line up.

I remember when Consumer Reports hated almost every Jeep (especially the Gladiator, which it considered one of the worst concepts in the past 20 years) but actually praised the Grand Cherokee. That has changed as the GC has declined in quality - which is sad because they were the cream of the brand and a popular SUV.

Here's some of the complaints I've received from many tech's working at a Jeep Dealerships. The E-torque is the biggest issue, whether it be the 2.0 litre or the 3.6 and many Ram truck owners. I had alway purchased a Jeep wrangler, but when Jeep decided to use E torque on the 3.6 and I viewed all the componets for this engine it turned me off. I decided to move up to the Jeep Gladiator with the regular 3.6 and have no issues. Yet my neighbor purchased a Jeep Wrangler rubicon 4 dr. and the day he came home, the next day one of the 30 mile coolant line was leaking. He was told parts on back order. Dealer took back the Jeep and he also ended up taking delivery of a Jeep Rubicon with Manual trans. He spoke to several mechanics in the shop and they had 3 other new Wranglers in the lot with the same issues. My wife had special ordered a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk with the 3.6 and after seeing all the problems with the 2022 and 2023 Grand Cherokee she said I'm keeping my Jeep. Also, like you mentioned, interest rates are out of sight! We bought ours in 2021 and we got both with a 3.49% rate. Plus we also received 2,000 discount for loyal customers. By the way I'd give the rest of my hair to buy a Jeep Wrangler 392 but with Interest rates so high its just a dream! LOL. John

I did the same. Wanted another four door Rubicon to replace my 2014. But moved up to the Gladiator to get away from the E torque. Sounds like it was a wise decision.

They should do what Kia and Hyundai did. Raise the manufacturer warranty to 10 years or 100k miles if they truly believe there vehicles are reliable.

Their reliability is getting SO bad, a lot less people want Jeep vehicles. One of the more important expectations when buying a brand new vehicle is that it will not have any problems for a few years or a bunch of miles.

Those small Jeeps are made by Fiat in Italy, which is enough to dissuade me from buying one. I remember when Fiat was a stand-alone brand in the 1970s and their cars were problems right off the lot. The modern Fiat 500 is similar, but its issues start at about 25K - 30K miles (from folks I know who own them). I'm surprised Jeep doesn't bring back the older version of the basic Cherokee that was discontinued (in about 2004, IIRC). Great SUV, it had a long lifecycle where all the problems had been worked out of it. Simple to maintain, a reliable I-6 engine, 2WD or 4WD. Sure it would need upgrades for safety features and environmental requirements, but other than that it should be a great seller.

they could use the 2 dr wrangler as a base, go back to basics not have to pay $60k-$70k to get a good off roader, less tech& luxury and also take the 4 dr wrangler 118"wb and make a 2dr pickup out of it 6'box drove the new inline I-6. not bad need a few yrs to work out the bugs

The 18 Renegade I owned was subpar in many ways, but the biggest problem was excessive oil burning. I ended up selling it at a loss. The Cherokee is being discontinued and the Compass is not as impressive as its competitors

At home we have a 2020 jeep cherokee with 31k miles on it. A month ago the engine light came on on the dashboard, we went to a scanner and it gave an error P018C... he took the dealer after waiting for an appointment for almost 15 days, it was a thermal protector that should protect a gas emission sensor , which was not installed at the factory, therefore the sensor was fused. Fortunately, that car at home has little use, since the dealer informed us that if the engine had overheated, the car could have caught fire. The fact is that we are already planning to change brand.

I purchased a new Jeep Cherokee and after 38000 miles a freeze plug came out of the engine. Unfortunately, the freeze plug was inside the bell housing to the transmission so they had to pull the engine and transmission to replace a $20 part. Of course it was not under warrantee at that point. No more Jeep products for me.
