Wow you really hit it on the nail with this younger generation. I've noticed the same thing. They sit on the ferry dock with their cars running so they can play with their phones. On a black tarmac that's hotter than hell their windows are rolled up and they have the air conditioning on. While the rest of us breathe in their toxic fumes and do our best to stay cool. I went back to college as a non traditional student. I offered one of my classmates $100 cash if she would turn off her phone and let me keep it for her for half a day. She said yes. She turned off her phone and handed it to me. Barely 10 minutes later she wanted her phone back in a very desperate way. So I gave it to her and she lost the easiest $100 she would have ever made.

Bill Maher definitely had this topic pegged. he was absolutely correct. sometimes the truth hurts no matter what generation you are in.

Remember in the 80's how we Gen X'ers would complain and criticize our parents, elders, local/state/government/national/international leaders, and talk about how we're going to change the world? We did. The X generation put on kid gloves, tried not to be as hard as their parents and we got the millennials. We baked their brains on Barney, and now they scribble ridiculous tattoos all over their bodies "to belong" and complain about the stuff we already complained about. Now they have kids, followed our model of parenting, and instead of the purple dinosaur, it's a cell phone screen or flat screen to keep them shut up. Meanwhile, social media confuses them, manipulates them, and warps reality, because their parents aren't there to discuss, disagree, or discipline them. Instead, "oh Timmy today is a (insert made up pronoun here) wolf spirit, mongoose tiger today. Timmy is so creative." No, Timmy is probably either completely insane or a conformist to the culture of absurdity.

Bill, I'm glad you're back to playing the middle game in no man's land. You're great at what you do, and I'm glad you're back to not 'picking sides' as it were. No one is safe from the truth and comedy.

Just started following Bill Maher recently. I'm a fairly traditional conservative and had always viewed him as pretty liberal, which he is. But I value truth, honesty and common sense over anything and it takes a certain amount of curiosity and effort to discover what the truth about anything really is. Without that effort, I could so easily be a fool and never know it. I hope we all want the same thing...a better world, right? Putting our swords down and being honest about issues can be the bridge between conservatism and liberalism. I admire Bill Maher for being that type of person, and am extremely thankful that he has the platform he does.

When I talk to young people I point out that: those handy dandy black mirrors you like staring into, the internet you like to surf, the personal computers you love to use all created by boomers and Gen X. Not to mention electric cars etc. And all done while living under the fear of the Cold War, war in Iraq Pt 1 & 2 etc. I Always end with: It's great that you have all these complaints. Can't wait to see the contribution from you and your generation. Can't wait for you guys to show us how it's done.

As a 32-year-old, I've been saying this for a long time. Of course, when I do say it, I always get told "ok boomer" by obnoxious kids who think they know it all and are better than everyone born before them. Youthful ignorance is a perpetual reality, no matter how much current young people think they're the first exception.

Look I am 26 and lemme tell Mahr here what I have done to help the planet. 1. I helped start a project in my school that I used to go to. The backyard of the school was barren. The school owned it but had nothing to do with it, no funds to build anything. So we fundraised and built a water harvesting plant that went functional 3 years ago, a compost pit and the remaining place is for every class to plant a tree every year. Right now we have 25 little saplings (some didnt make it) in various stages of development and it is the job of that class to make sure these keep growing into actual trees. 2. In my office and in the same school, there is a rule about print outs. Did you know people use more paper in the age of computers than they used before? Because now they dont have to type or write it by hand, they just print it out. So there are restrictions on what needs to be physically printed on paper. Random circulars, notes, flyers etc are banned. Only extrememly important things are printed. I has cut down paper waste by 30% but we are trying to do more. 3. Straws are banned, period. Not plastic straws, paper straws too. paper cups are banned. Plastic bottles are banned. Only thermos flasks are allowed. If you run out of water, refill it and keep going. 4. I personally have made it a point to not buy more than 4 items of clothing in a year. Last year, I bought only 2 new ones. (Right now I am not including stockings and stuff in it but later, maybe). I have not bought new shoes in 5 years - havent had to or any new bags or totes in 7 years. Saves me money and saves the environment. 5. I walk/ cycle everywhere. I buy stuff from farmer's market and cook my own food and make sure not a single morsel is wasted. 6. I dont own a cellphone. I know crazy. I used to. It broke down. As did my laptop after 12 years of use. Right now I bought a tab. I use it as my laptop watch everything and use it sparingly. no smartwatches, no airpods no nonsense. TBH, it has given me so much peace of mind, I cant explain. One could argue tabs are harmful for the environment. Buit one of my fave hobbies is reading. And in my logic, I would rather buy ebooks than physical paper books. Plus you cant not own any electronic devices if you want to keep your job. 7. I cold brew my tea and coffee. 8. I grow my own herbs. 9. I make recycled paper at home for making cards and gift wrappers etc. 11. Apart from youtube and Quora, I dont really use social media. I try not to shop online and buy locally as much as possible. Plastic is essential for certain things but where I can I reduce it. I have stopped wearing artificial jewellery or diamond jewellery as well (less to do with environment than geopolitics) 12. I try not to use appliances for work - like whisking by hand, kneading by hand, washing clothes by hand. Gives me a ton of exercise and saves energy. 13. I wear climate appropriate clothing rather than blast central heating or ac at full power all the time. I found these khus khus curtains that I douse with water to keep cool in summer. I practically reduces my fan usage by two months. There is other stuff too but I think I have written a ton already 14 As for crypto - I dont own any but I wholeheartedly support it. For one reason only - it is decentralised and cannot be manipulated by banks. Yes, cloud and crypto use a ton of energy.But like with cars and ships and jets, the problem isnt that they use energy but the fact that we still produce enegy from fossil fuels. That is an overarching problem. When you start to argue in that direction, you are making the argument that we should stop progress because climate! And that does not make sense. I am assuming here that me not using a car (or fossil fuel based vehicle unless for long travel which I do very rarely) and not eating meat or not buying bajillion clothes is going to offset my cloud usage which is all of 12 GB at this time. Right now I am aiming to reduce my carbon footprint, we talk about being carbin neutral eventually.

I'm a fairly conservative person and I find myself agreeing with more and more of Bill's monologues. I can't jump aboard with his atheism, but most everything else I'm in agreement. I would love to see him get one of the first slots in the big 3's late night. He would surely shake things up and bring conservative viewership back.

As a Millennial, I agree with this premise. How often do the majority in my generation and younger resort to virtue signaling while doing nothing about the problems they're supposedly raising awareness to? It's far too often. We can get the terrible cost of NFTs to trend on Twitter, but we can't really stop artists or buyers in our generation, we don't make a collective push to call our senators and congressman, we don't take up picket signs. We just retweet and then go on to check out the newest makeup line while ignoring the child labor used to get mica. There are good people in all generations who are subjected to the bullshittery of their peers. You know if you're one of them based on this segment. Boomers won't be around forever for us to blame our problems on.

Yeah, young people now are pretty much like young people were back then in the 50's and 60's, which means the vast majority of them are distracted, shallow, addicted to "convenience" and vapid consumerism, and merely acting out whatever the incessant marketing systems and political voices all around them are *telling* them to do....24 hours a day. But they do feel ever so morally righteous! (and well...I remember just how righteous we felt when we were youngsters too...back then. We were super righteous, by God! We also thought that "the old people" had screwed up everything.) But thank God we were at least not addicted to cellphones! The main thing I was addicted to at the time was...Coca Cola. It was the sugar and caffeine hit that hooked me. Later I switched to coffee, and got the same thing there. 😅

I'll see someone that talks about saving the world all while they are the first person to turn the AC on in their house....or they'll need a new car every few years while ignoring that 60 years ago, if you got a new car, it was a huge deal in the neighborhood. I see the same ppl making sure they get their drive every day which contains plastic instead of bringing coffee from home in a reusable cup. I just see a lot of hypocrisy.

Bill's touching on something I think about a lot: the millennial and gen z generations poll as hating capitalism, but what they should really hate (or do and don't realize it) is consumerism.
