@@curiousgeorge555 *"How do you know who (not what) your mother is?"* That's pretty easy. Why would you ask such a silly question? We're not talking about such trivial matters as whether or not humans exist. You seem to have knowledge of something more unusual, which has never been confirmed. So how do you know of it? It's easy to give your flippant replies, but harder to substantiate your stunning claims. Why not give it a try?

I love that Dr. Keller challenges you to examine your own heart in his sermons. I had to re-examine my own salvation after realizing, I had such a shallow understanding of the gospel. That is a very sobering thought. I think too many churches today focus on the size of their church, rather than the hearts of their flock. You rarely hear of pastors saying to their congregation, "you're probably not a Christian if....". Only a pastor who truly loves people, could have the courage to confront Christians in such a loving way. My faith has grown deeper in Christ because of the Holy Spirit, and Dr. Keller's deep, deep insight into the gospel. I find incredible, soul changing treasures in every single one of his sermons. He is truly a blessing to the Christian world view.

Why listen to an apostate Preacher explain anything in a truthful way about our Lord Jesus Christ . Jesus gives you direct instructions on living your life. This man makes a living making statements about the Word of God that is mostly untrue, to people who are not reading the Scriptures themselves.

@@michaeldvorak8140 Perhaps his preaching inspires people to read for themselves. I know it has for me. Nothing wrong with listening to people elaborate about the Word. It isn’t a replacement for reading the Word, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a place.

If modern churches would teach that the REAL reason we should love God ( because we love Him, not because of what he does for Me ), worship would be transformed. Alas, listen to the lyrics of much of what is called "contemporary Christian music" and you will hear a focus on the transactional: I love you Lord because... of what you can and will do for Me. We should be singing that we love you, Lord, for what you HAVE ALREADY ACCOMPLISHED for me, and FOR WHO YOU TRULY ARE.

“Do you mortify; do you make it your daily work; be always at it whilst you live; cease not a day from this work; be killing sin or it will be killing you.” (John Owen, The Mortification of Sin) Tim's refrain of the Gospel [borrowed from Jack Miller], "I am more sinful than I can ever dare imagine, and yet more loved than I could ever hope for." is the basis for the freedom to change. The problem is that we do not live "on the extremes of this articulation of the Gospel." We live lukewarm Gospel lives... Ergo mostly neutered of our ability to change at deep, deep levels. God bless you, Tim Keller. A main mentor since arriving in NYC.

Reading comments after videos like these increases my embrace of God seeing us, not in ourselves but in Jesus. The pridefullness, bickering, misunderstanding, emotionalism, unholy dissension among the saints is discouraging. And somehow, were all wrapped up in it. How God offers love and reconciliation to hearts as inclined and provoked to ugliness as ours is truly a mystery. As is expressed in our culture, en masse, we can tolerate almost nothing of perceived personal offense towards us, in the slightest degree. Yet God again and again holds back His Divine wrath to the spoiled heart that deserves it and put the fullness thereof on Himself, in Christ, who did not deserve it.

So well said and such a great reminder of how impoverished we are, even in our positional state of salvation. We have so very far to go in our salvation. Be ye holy as God is holy - that standard is unattainable without Christ and attained only in our glorification. It is a good reminder that I am not who I long to be even if I am better than I used to be. Thank you for wisdom from God.

Great insight into how to be a victor in Christ in this lifetime on earth. I speak from experience that a Christian can have overflowing joy and the peace that passes all understanding in spite of circumstances, past baggage, and the sin that wars within us. Never fear letting Christ bring our sins into the light. Through Christ we are more than conquerors. And the love affair we can have with Him is vibrant and amazing!

Only spiritually blind and biblically ignorant people would give this sermon a dislike. Those who gave this a dislike has proven Tim Keller's points to be true. We are indeed blinded by our deep " crouching " sins and the only solution is true repentance! Thank you Lord for those who resist the truth of this sermon , you Lord, have an amazing way of convicting us and comforting us at the same time. THE DISLIKE OF ABSOLUTE TRUTH PROVES ITSELF TO BE CONSISTENT WITH IT'S VERY DEFINITION. True conviction means separation from self deception and biblical error! Holy Spirit continue to convict us and sanctify us towards Christlikeness.

You cannot get rid of sin simply by noticing and admitting that we have a certain sin. The only way for a christian to get rid of their sinful behaviors, is through the Holy Spirit. When you pray and allow the Holy Spirit to help you change, and make that sin unappealing to you, when the Holy Spirit gives you the strength to abstain from your addiction to the sin, only then can you begin to change for the better. It's impossible to do it on your own.

Yes, but just like salvation, our first step is to acknowledge that we are sinners and separated from God. I believe what Pastor Keller is saying, is that if a christian is in denial about his/her sin, they have to first agree with God that the thing that the Holy Spirit is putting His finger on is a sin and also want God to change them.

Does all sin require punishment or does all sin require sacrifice? Do we want to stop sinning just because we don't want to grieve the One we love, or do we also have a growing, all-consuming desire to be closer to God, to have more of Him, to be sanctified, to be holy as He is holy, to be transformed into His image?

I think you are right on in most of your talk in regard to loving the Lord and in all of your examples of heartfelt agape love. Then an interesting thing happens following your examples of the sexually promiscuous man that changed at the bible study and in fact you felt that he never really changeover instead exchanged one misbehavior for another. The fact that you use that example is interesting in itself and that it becomes the point of going off track into error. Anyway then you really lose the whole accurate theme of loving God and go to human effort to kill the sin. I say that if we continue on fully in God's path that he has given us to love so much that the Holy Spirit is in fact our Redeamer by in filling us with love so great that sin.loses its power. The Holy Spirit has been given to us for this purpose. It is not our Herculean effort that brings us fully and deeply to God. Rather it is God Himself, the I Am that brings us to Him.

He makes some good points. Mainly we do need to get rid of the root and really repent deeply and find our identity in Jesus. However there are a few things I think that should be looked at and thought about. 1 The disciples did not rejoice that the demons were subject to their name but to Jesus’ name. Yet he did make a good point about not finding our salvation in those. 2 however the demons kept being subject to the authority of Jesus’ name. That never changed. 3. It seems unfair for a wife to say “do you love me?” And just expect I love you because I love you. Honestly did she pick the guy just because she loves him for no reason? No. They picked each other for certain reasons. However in God’s love we stay committed to their value in Christ. They are made in God’s image and even if they change and start treating us wrong we are still called to love them for their sake.

No right division of the Word in fact no Word at all just stream of consciousness from this "anointed " one. there will come a time when they will not endure sound doctrine and with itching ears will heap up for themselves teachers like this one.

If only they preached sin in new covenant grace-based churches. Strangely and grievously, they do not want their congregations to "sin-conscious" , whatever that means, and enter into a long phase of denial of the existence of private sins and hang-ups in their lives.

. sin can not hide from the word of God. IT IS SHARPER THAN ANY TWO EDGED SWORD Cain HAD SET HIMSELF AGAINST GOD. GOD WAS WARNING HIM. ALL WHO REPENT AND TURN TO GOD HAVE FORGIVENESS OF SIN AND HE GIVES YOU THE POWER TO RID YOUR SIN. DO NOT DENY THIS

I'm sorry, I love Keller and he made a lot of great points here BUT this whole idea of "convicting yourself" does not jive with scriptural truth. "it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose." Phil 2:13

23:50 learn how to convict yourself with your joys... Vision of God, of His Love, becomes love for Him, and I don't want to betray that, i want to please Him. Before just ...trying harder. For vanity, for control-by-moral-superiority, moral status....

I love Tim's preaching. I really do. But. I get frustrated that he is fantastic at explaining the theological analysis of a topic like this but spends so little time on practical application / implementation. How to. This is one of the better that I have heard but still only about 10min was spent on practical application. Better but not great.

I can't understand what he said (32:39-48) "I am only hear to say don't be afraid to get back into the muck...use grace on it...the more you see your sin, the more his grace and that's how you change deeply."What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? Romans 6:1-3

+Rijo Jacob Abraham I understood it as 'don't be afraid to recognise all your sin - no matter how bad, then apply the grace of the gospel (like he did with the earlier examples of pride, irritability, anxiety). the more you recognise/admit your sin, the more you're able to see the depths of his grace. And that's the key to change' (1John 1:8-9; Tit. 2:11-12). Hope that helps.

I think he meant, 'don't be afraid to get back into the muck of examining and dealing with and confessing your own sin.' It is a dirty and painful business, looking into the patterns and process of your own sinful nature, but there are times in every Christian's life that it has to be done. This is how we cooperate with the sanctification that began at the Cross. He is NOT urging that we get back into the 'muck' of sinful attitudes and behavior.

All sin has to be punished? By whom? By God? Calvinism makes absolutely no theological sense to me at all. That punishing God, and the idea that the crucifixion was some sort of substitutionary atonement are hallmarks of bad Calvinistic theology. Though I believe Reverend Keller is a good man and a good Christian.
