I'm old enough to remember when "sportsmanship" was a reason you wanted your kid to play sports, along with other antique ideas like "fair play" and "respect for opponents" and "having fun." And if I was a fourth grader coming home with a tattoo like that, my mom would have tattooed my behind way more than that for good measure. Shame on that "parent" who allowed that to happen.

Coaches like John Wooden and Bud Grant werethe epitomy of discipline and self control. They demanded the same qualities from their players. Now everyone thinks it's cool to be a jerk. Alot of these kids are headed for a big reality check when they land in the real world. A miniscule number become pros and outside of that their childish behavior will no longer be tolerated.

I don't watch basketball, so forgive me if this is ignorant. Can someone please explain why the lay-up at 5:37 was not called for travelling? Depending on when you consider the #1 to be in "control" of the ball, he either takes 3 or 4 steps after the dribbling stops. From what I've always understood and what I read from the rules, you can only take one step while holding the ball (i.e. Whichever foot is the pivot foot can leave the ground, but cannot touch the ground again while holding the ball).

The only difference is that this generation gets filmed constantly. Kids were AWFUL in the 70s and 80s when I grew up, but adults didn't see it and nobody believed it if you told them. I saw kids kill peoples pets, back girls into corners and mess with them until they ran away crying, take shit and throw it at cars, fist fight for money... people have been talking about the good old days since people could talk.

Both my daughters played AAU, club,CYO,High School and one currently plays in college, the other one had enough after high school and doesn’t play in college. The bullshit I’ve seen in the last 15 years is unbelievable. The kids today think it’s D-1 or bust, and their parents think it’s a given. I am so glad to be done with this crap. All sports today are a mess.
