If Alonso goes to Madrid in a year I get it. He will have a managerial career filled with trophies. But the elite managers always opt for life on easy mode. THAT is why Jurgen Klopp is special, he could have gone on cruise control after Dortmund and gone to any team he wanted but he chose Liverpool. I agree with whoever said you need big balls to choose Liverpool, not many people really want that challenge.

If I was a manager especially an in demand one and was on the verge of winning an unprecedented title in Germany I would speak to absolutely no-one until the season had finished. Not just to avoid breaking the momentum he has at his club but also as a sign of respect to his club and players.

I definitely agree dunk i think edwards has used his connections in Portugal and liked what he heard about amorim. Also we dont know what leverkusen were like to deal with .

Don't know if I'd go as far as saying 'it all makes sense now', but the Edwards thing is a perfectly good theory. It was around that time that we suddenly started hearing about Alonso's 'big release clause', wasn't it? But, either way, I'm happy to go with whoever they think is best. After all, we've got to have faith in Edwards et al..

Unfortunately, as Liverpool fans, we like to think that the club has enormous pulling power. This rejection from Alonso is probably hard to take but not entirely unexpected.

Makes you think what have FSG been doing since Nov when Klopp told them of his decision to leave…Did they only start the management process once Edwards was in place? Surely they have not been waiting on a decision from Alonso all this time… makes me think that Alonso was never seriously in the running with the club, likely they are far down the road with one do the other candidates - Amorin, De Zerbi, Naaglesman.

I don't think Alonso ever had any intention of leaving Leverkusen so for the press to report he has 'turned Liverpool down' is likely well wide of the mark. Alonso is a very methodical human being and don't forget, he is also a massive Liverpool Fan. I see it as him not feeling like he will do the club justice at this stage of his managerial career and that he feels staying at Leverkusen is a better fit all round for him for the time being. I love De Zerbi but Brighton have had a very indifferent season so is his magic wearing off there already? I have read up on Amorim and to me, he seems the best option. It's a little bit from left field and EPL Manager's will need to do their homework on him more than they will Alonso. Also...our current squad would be better suited to Amorim's style of play than Alonso's right now. They can add or take players away, of course, but Amorim seems the best option all round. He's more experienced, has already won trophies (against the odds....does that sound a bit like Klopp) and the players at Lisbon adore him. He ticks more boxes than Alonso right now if you ask me.

If he would take it, I'd go for Pep Lijnders. He knows the team, he knows the system and he knows the club. If they really want Alonso (although there's still no guarantee they'd get him after waiting) it's the best interim option without sending us into another spiral of managers who don't get it.

If Alonso has always been waiting for the RM position, I'm glad he's staying. I don't want us to become one of those clubs that jumps on the manager "merry-go-round". Besides, FSG will only use the excuse that they had to buy a new manager to excuse the lack of incoming players.

I repect Alonso's decision, at least he's showing some loylaty. if Amorim gets appointed I will get behind him. If he's clever he won't change much, just carry on the good work of Klopp.

The stars have aligned for Alonso, another season with Leverkusen plus challenging for CL [and becomes their hero], then Ancelotti leaves RM and Alonso is guaranteed to become RM manager for a few seasons. He knows that Liverpool FC will likely wait as a future back-up plan or an option before retirement. I really hope we get Leverkusen in the Europa final now. We should get behind Amorim now!

Can't blame FSG if he don't want to come he won't come - ive always been sceptical that a stellar 18 months (cot 2022 to now) is firm enough foundation to take over from Klopp who had a proven track record before being appointed...Personally I would prefer Linders but Amorim is also fine he's a decent coach and man manager

I'm starting to think it's more about the time scale now as well. Where at the end of March an the club needs something concrete with the manager the top two candidates now have realise Claus in there contracts so shouldn't be a problem. I think it all ready done now an wouldn't be surprised if we hear something very quickly ❤YNWA ❤

Alonso is not ready for the Premier League he knows that himself. He's missed the boat. So it's down to Amorin, De Zerbi, Southgate, Mourinho, Frank (I had a £10 bet on him at 25/1) But my Darkhorse is Fonseca. Rumours are circulating around here in the pubs. 🤫

Think this all points to the fact that he is a spaniard and wants to manage madrid, and therefore staying at Leverkusen is his best bet to secure that move. Im gutted, because i think hes the outstanding candidate, but we are Liverpool and we will walk on regardless

Did alonso not speak with klopp?? Maybe klopp didn't paint the best picture of Edwards and FSG turning him off, I'm likely to be miles off with this one but it's a possible scenario

Dn't pretend we have to beg for him, or anyone, why would he want come here and work under FSG, if I were him I'd prefer stay at leverkusen and build a legacy, a few successful years there and he would be highly regarded anywhere his name gets mentioned, while going to BM he'd be just another coach taking his turn,

I agree Dunc. No one know thw real reason why Alonso has dexided to stay: Maybe he wants to continue the journey with a suoer team he has only just built, maybe he and the family prefer life in Leverkusen than Liverpool, maybe he wants to wait another year and go back to Spain and Real....or maybe he bottled it or maybe just maybe FSG have had their eyes on someone else all along. Fact is its done. I see morons blaming Edwards and Hughes out of disappointment when thwy have no idea of what Alonso's reasons are or what FSG's actual manegerial intentions were. I think FSG will make the right appointment.

Yh makes sense, I don't understand why people are getting to upset, blaming people etc. If Edwards wanted amorim don't we have trust them as they are incharge of football operations. I think if Liverpool come calling you should jump at a chance, maybe Liverpool never had a clear answer aswell.

I didn't like the Edwards appointment as I feel he has too much power. Amorim doesn't have the personality to be the Liverpool coach ( that's all anyone coming in will be). Maybe Alonso is aware of that.

Amorim has a good points per game ration at the last 2 clubs, dont know if he's won anything, he's only 39 lol wonder if he can play? If i was him i'd see if there was something he can do with pres conferences, fed up with the amount the coach has to do nowadays I don't even watch them anymore, always the same old shit, hopefully he's used to working without control of transfers, I think we need a coach used to that as it's clear to me Klopp was continuously let down when having a say in player targets, the bloke aged 20 years since being at Liverpool, please NO SOUTHGATE, I will stop watching football all together if we give the job to him

I am a bit gutted that it's not looking likely that alonso is not going to the the next lfc manager. Who every it is. We will support the new manager. It's also a big decision for fsg because if they get it wrong with edwards Hughes and new manager fans will want them out

As soon as I heard Edwards was 'returning' I assumed it would be a disaster, from what I've been reading. Obviously he has a ego bigger than Anfield. It's going to be all about him. Alonso would NEVER work for Edwards because of Javi's semi-legend status with the fans. Let's hope a bloke, who 99% of the fans had never heard of until 2 months ago, adapts HIS STYLE to the unique PREM from Day 1. I'm dubious.
