Waited the whole vid for "OH ITS A GOAL it bounces right by Toskala!"
@austinshockeytalks60727 місяців тому
As a goalie I can say that we absolutely hate facing odd pucks. We’ll face 3-4 of these a night normally, and if the puck has ~1% chance of going in, you can do the math that every 25-35 games one will find it’s way in and there’s very little you can do about it. The fact that it’s not impossible combined with it’s unfortunate frequency in most games means we can’t exactly avoid these mishaps. Nobody cares when you save 99 of them, they only care when you don’t save 1.
@ghost-whitesand94477 місяців тому
Yup, I remember having a good stretch of games in a ball hockey tournament and it felt like I could do no wrong… till we lost our knockout game because it took a weird bounce off my blocker and slowly went in. I saved over 75 shots in those three games and I only let in five goals in that span but I still got to shoulder the blame when I could have easily called out my teammates for their play. I had teammates, afraid to block shots, try to blindly block shots when they’re just impeding my vision. I had teammates that were slower than the top line of most teams in that tournament. Everybody blames me for that one bad goal when they probably don’t realize that it was hard for me to even get us that far with what I had to work with.
@austinshockeytalks60727 місяців тому
@@ghost-whitesand9447 the other part of goaltending is a beautiful contrast from being a player in terms of your team. When it’s an important game, or important moments happen, you’re the furthest person on the ice for your teams victories and the closest person to the failures. The overtime loss? You’re the final person the other team beat before it’s over. Your team wins? They all congratulate the game winner at the other end of the ice. They’ll never have your back on a bad goal but they’ll only “WHOOAAA” for a second when you make a great save. Toughest position in all of sports.

I was wondering if Toskala would make it and he did. The Datsyuk goal has to be the best slow goal AND shootout goal in NHL history.
@Mordecai4787 місяців тому

@csl28857 місяців тому
@tino6176 As a Leafs fan, this will be the one thing fellow Leafs fans will remember most. Like you said, it's happened to so many others, but a lot of those guys had many more positives with their respective teams than Toskala did.
@Z0RDR4CK7 місяців тому
I used to play a lot of table soccer and loved making quick movements in front of the goal with the forward line and then casually and slowly kicking the ball into the goal. Most of the opponents then frantically pulled their goalibar back and forth, but mostly managed to get past the slowly rolling ball. Of all my trickshots, this was my favorite, as long as you didn't do it too often with the same opponents! - greetings to Kucharov! :)
@blarbkanopcious42437 місяців тому
Wow what were your other trick shots?
@Z0RDR4CK7 місяців тому
@@blarbkanopcious4243 nothing wild. with the striker the ball extremely sideways against the boards and from there deflected into the goal, or step over, simply or twice. Clamped the ball with the striker and instead of shooting then let the ball fly into the goal with downward pressure, there are a lot of things, but a lot of things can't really be explained very well without visual aids, maybe there are YT videos, idk. :) I played in the Bundesliga in Germany (DTFB) and was unfortunately much stronger in defense/goalkeeping than in midfield or forward, so I had to play there a lot more often. But there were also funny options, for example kicking the ball backwards next to your own goal with the defensive line, picking up the rebound with the goalkeeper and maneuvering the ball again against the boards in such a way that the goalkeeper balances the ball horizontally on his foot, then a quick turn forward and the ball flies over the lines of friend and enemy and with luck it lands in the opponent's goal. However, this trick was then banned in the Bundesliga because it was probably not acceptable that the ball was _no longer on the table during the flight phase._ Oh really?! :( Otherwise, speed, control and very good hand-eye coordination are the most important things. Unfortunately, it's been a few years since I last played with any real ambition. I hope I haven't annoyed you with this endless answer. Greetings!

As a goaltender, there is absolutely nothing worse than a flipping bouncing puck. They can change direction so incredibly unpredictably and sometimes you just cannot change the momentum of your predicted movement to react in time. It’s awful. Whole reason they call these goals a bad/lucky bounce.
