I was at the Nadal Tsitsipas match. It was the final of the Rogers Cup, an ATP 1000 tourney, so a pretty big match and certainly Tsitsipas had never reached a final of that caliber before. The video undersells how loud the person yelled during Tsitsipas' serve. It was super distracting and I totally understand why he was so upset. Great sportsmanship by Nadal.

@@Andyyu24 oh my, you guys are joking right? how is that relevant? of course he was close and could easily hit it back but he thought the ball was out and let it go (way before the line judge said "out"). the rule in this situation is to give the point to Wawrinka but Karen lied by saying the line judge called it out before he could make a decision (to hit or let the ball go) and Stan believed him. The fact that he was close to the ball is irrelevant, it's about the line judge call timing here.
@Andyyu24
@Andyyu24 5 років тому
@@IAMSOUND99He was close and he could have hit the ball. You may be right about the timing of the call but it happened very fast and if you play tennis, you should know this kind of mistake could happen and it could have been just an honest mistake. Give players the benefit of doubts and I don't like calling him a liar or dishonest person just coz of that. I respect your opinion but it's just yours. Respect mine and cheer for Stan!!!!
@IAMSOUND99
@IAMSOUND99 5 років тому
@@Andyyu24 Yeah yeah i respect your opinion but this isn't a matter of opinion here, you can rewatch the vid the call clearly came after Karen gave away the ball already, it's a fact. the thing is it's a very common thing for pro tennis players with poor sportsmanship to lie on "when they heard the call" because it totally changes the point outcome: if the call is before the player is able to hit the ball the point is replayed for them and not lost, so they abuse it (cf. Novak vs Tsonga: Djokovic throws a tantrum at the umpire for losing the point when the replay clearly shows the call was late and the umpire made a good decision)

@SJ-di5zu
@SJ-di5zu 5 років тому
I think Khachanov definitely could’ve hit the ball but thought it was out. He would’ve been on his back foot and it may not have been the best return but he clearly seems within reach. The one where Stan replayed the point against Mannarino I thought was being way too nice. No way in hell Mannarino gets to that second ball
@BoykesR
@BoykesR 5 років тому
@@SJ-di5zu true that. Khachanov however blamed the outing to not hit the ball. Instead of just making sure he gets the point, he tries getting the point after a line judge failure. Mannarino in no way would have claimed the point, knowing sure and well Wawrinka beat his shot fair and square, he was just momentarily lapsed out on the wrong call. That makes it different to me, Mannarino went after the call, Khachanov after the point he himself lost.

@cscoetzee
@cscoetzee 5 років тому
@@danielpotts1172 I wasn't being sarcastic. But I looked up the definition and you are correct. Somehow I always assumed that sportsmanship is when you go beyond the pale of simple rules and fairness, to make a rare generous gesture, when it is not strictly required according to the rules. For example, replaying a point because you know your opponent wasn't ready, even though you don't have to. To my mind there should be nothing extraordinary in simply following the rules honestly, which are obviously there to ensure fairness. So 'sportsmanship' according to this definition, should not be extraordinary or rare at all, but simply the order of the day. However, it seems that today this is far from being the case, and is something to be remarked on when it happens...? That was my point.

Yeah he shouldn't have asked in the middle of the match though. He's young so he probably didn't know any better but Zverev couldn't waste the time to sign it during the match, although im fairly certain he signed after the match if he won
