So typically they file the immediate lesser complaint, which allows them to arrest the person. Afterwards they can add more serious charges and have time to present evidence to a Grand Jury. And they can add even more charges or enhance existing charges at their leisure. So getting charged with a misdemeanor right now means nothing other than they wanted a quick way to arrest people and get them into the first step of the process. Many of these people aren't going to know what hit them, and all their charges will be enhanced with conspiracy charges, which are almost impossible to fight. If you stood and watched while other people broke down a door, you can be convicted of conspiracy, even if you didn't actively participate.

This sounds like the perfect place for people to share content they would otherwise be unable to. I would be highly surprised if that kind of environment did not allow for child porn to have been shared. With no restrictions, and perceived anonymity from parlour’s users, I doubt the illicit activities on parlour were limited to anti government speech. Parlour had crap security and actually kept everything, including deleted private chats. They didn’t even technically get hacked, they basically kept their admin accounts ‘in the clear’. They basically just got their servers downloaded and handed to the FBI.
