For example, he might have caught a viral infection turned bacterial pneumonia, received inadequate treatment, and died of septic shock within days. In sum, when you are killing someone in this way you cannot always choose the timing.

And death due to blood clots can be a ticking bomb. Of course if Putin wanted Navalny to survive he would have been given house arrests or sent to a prison somewhere with milder climate and conditions. But the refusal to release the body and conduct an independent autopsy could indicate poisoning. Putin has had many opponents and critics killed, but the timing of this death seems quite inconvenient for him.
