I run my fridge/freezer 28 qt combo for 6-7 Hours while resting for the night. Next day I plug both into the van and charge while driving. I have solar panels now and next run will try to charge with those. I'll keep in mind the 5.5 mm connections and change 1 or 2 panels for that. You're making me smarter every time I watch. Thank you.

I built my first wind generator using a GM truck alternator in 1995, I have always used deep cycle lead acid batteries. I have a homemade 400 watt Li po unit for drone operations while camping. I just cant see spending a $1000 plus for these units when I know I can build my own unit custom made to my needs for a fraction of the cost. The components now days are plug and play. For standby back up power deep cycle is just fine, you can renew the batteries every 6 years or so. For partial solar use you need to renew more often. $400 for the unit you are showing is a good deal.

Well, I think it's safe to say that Jackery has pretty much ridden its pony to the end of the line. With regard to solar generators, hey WERE one of the first and best back in the day. But they have not kept up with the leaders of the pack. I'm pretty much all in with the recent purchase of the new Bluetti AC500. Expansion capacity is the name of the game for me. But this is a really great value at the price.

Solar generator is just a marketing term, it isn't an actual product. A generator works by converting kinetic energy to electrical energy. A solar panel works by converting photons to electrical energy. The battery in a Jackery works by converting chemical energy to electrical energy, the same as a battery in a flashlight.
@borandell9915

@@CreakyCricket Correct. But what people seem to have a hard time with, IS the marketing term. And it's not going to change so I don't get why they seem to have a hard time with calling it that. It is now set in marketing stone and will be for the foreseeable future. Thanks for the clarification.

Im watching this in October 2022. Jackery did release 1000 and 2000 pro. Specs are much improved. Main reason why some prefer LFP and NMC are the size, weight, and energy density. The reason why NMC PW are so much smaller and lighter is the energy density. Holds greater amount than LFP. I have both Jackery 1500 and Bluetti EB70. EB70 weights just as much as my Jackery 1500. EB70 has 1/2 of capacity as Jackery 1500. Older and weak can't lug around LFP everywhere. Stationary use belongs to LFP and portability to NMC. Vtoman 1000 is now 1299 with 400 off. Amazon is having clearance sale on Jackery 1000 with 2 solar saga 100 panels for 1349. Costco and Homedepot also has them for the same price.

@@ReeWrayOutdoors Yeah but, you're no spring chicken he! he! People needs stop comparing how many cycles of charging between LFP and NMC. Yes, LFP does have few thousand cycles over NMC. But, the features on the Power station will fail before the battery and makes it useless. Just like led bulbs. It has 25,000 hour life. But, the converter fails well before that. Great review! I was just about ready to purchase the Patriot 1800. Have you done a review on that unit?
@ReeWrayOutdoors
@ReeWrayOutdoors Рік тому
Mike, I've not done a review on the Patriot 1800. I did go look at their website and try to get sense of what the specs are, and I would STRONGLY advise against buying that product. This unit is only 768Wh in capacity. If we assume that the solar panel they bundle it with is a 100W panel and that it makes up about $250 of the $2500 price tag, that would mean the Patriot 1800 costs $2.92 per Wh. Yes, you'd be getting a 1800W inverter, but what good is that when it won't power anything for very long. And compare that to Jackery (notoriously the most expensive option) at around $1 per Wh! Most of the units I review are going to be < $0.75 per Wh. The Pecron E2000 I most recently owned is extremely good and has MUCH better specs all the way around (incl nearly triple the capacity) than the Patriot 1800, and yet costs only $1400...(add $600 for 2 - 200W solar panels for 400W of solar input and you're still saving $500 and getting WAY more). Bottom line: you'll probably be much better off buying about ANYTHING other than the Patriot 1800 - this company is clearly (IMO) trying to capitalize on people's sense of patriotism and play on their fears. Don't fall for it!
@OneTruth56

Wow… thank you for such detail and concern! I have watched Patriot play with their price a lot. The fact is, the generator costs $2K plus tax with one 100W panel. The other $500 is for other goodies such as food supply, solar water heater, solar power station to charge phones, etc. They push that $2500 as the cost of the unit. Now, they have a “sale” for the $2K because you don’t get the goodies with it. I’ve been hesitant over 18 months to move forward. Then, you came along😅 How can anyone not like the VTOMAN? One question with that. You mentioned it’s a 200W max DC solar charge input. You connected two 200W panels. The tall panel in the back provided over 100W of charging power. What happens if you used two of those panels and it exceeds the 200W input? Thank you so much!
@ReeWrayOutdoors
@ReeWrayOutdoors Рік тому
@@OneTruth56 I'm glad you dodged the bullet on that Patriot kit! You can 'over-panel' a power station without too much risk IF you're careful. Most power stations will have some over-current/over-voltage protection to ensure that they're not damaged if the input volts (or the amps) exceeds the charge-controller spec (they'll often either shut-down or just cap the input if the excessive input is only slightly above spec). BUT, it's definitely still possible to damage them if you suddenly get a significant input surge that is FAR above the rated max. Even though the Jump 1000 has a 200W DC max input (which I consider to be it's 1 primary weakness, if you plan on relying mostly on solar recharge), it's fairly common (in my southern Ohio latitude) to max out at between 50% to 80% of rated capacity on a solar panel (depending on conditions, time of year, temp, etc). That said, I knew when the conditions on that day that I was unlikely to be outputting more than about 50% capacity on those panels so I felt safe connecting 2 of them in parallel - but I'd generally not recommend since you'd eventually have a condition where you COULD damage the charge controller. So my recommendation is that if you anticipate the need to rely on solar (frequently or exclusively) for charging, you be looking at something more like the Pecron E2000 (which I'm hard-pressed to think of ANY complaints about). But if you don't really need frequent solar charging - the Jump 1000 or 1500 is an excellent buy.

Hello ReeWay! I researched and took your advice. I purchased the Jump 1500X and Back-up battery. I might have made a mistake on the solar panels though. I saw you recommended the ELECAENTA 120W panels. I saw the ELECAENTA 200W panel and purchased that. Am I able to just use a 200W panel to charge, or do I have to split it up at the power station’s inputs with two 100-120W panels? I believe the 1500X can’t exceed a 200W solar charge as the Jump 1000 correct? Thanks

jackery's pricing has always been so high and features so far out of date that I have never bothered owning one. For my money Ecoflow and Bluetti are the way to go. There are plenty of cheaper options too but they tend to have severely limited solar input limits which makes them less practical for solar use. I try to avoid anything with less than 100W input per 400WH so that way it can be fully charged in one solar day. Sure, you can charge from your vehicle (at roughly 96W, 8A@12V in order to avoid melting wiring or input adapter) but thats slow and expensive to do if you arent already driving.

I agree as the one thing that keeps me from getting these larger capacity power stations is the solar input. I have the Bluetti EB70s and I think that is the max capacity(716Wh) I would go for 200W limit(real world being much less) when I see real world charging performance. This Vtoman is even bigger and worse still, looking at their website the 1800W version only has 200W solar charging as well. I was considering that model until I read that. I do appreciate that all newer power stations of pass through technology now.

@ReeWrayOutdoors
@ReeWrayOutdoors Рік тому
Hi Maureen! I think you'll love this thing. As far as how much solar power do you need, keep in mind that the max DC input is 200W, and it's fairly common to typically see only about 80% of rated output on solar panels under 'typical' conditions. So sun/sky conditions where you live are pretty favorable, I think a single 200W panel would be a good choice. If you often have only partial sun, you might consider adding a 2nd 200W panel. If you DO opt for 2 panels, just take care to ensure they have the same voltage and Amps output specs so that when you combine them, you're getting the most out of them. If you combine panels with different specs, you'll put a lot of stress on the lower outputting panel and it will dumb-down your overall output, so I'd avoid that. :) I hope that helps!
