I see what Connor was trying to do against that Val goal and it actually wasn't a bad idea. All he knew is that Mikko got it across. He assumed the puck was going to instantly be coming back toward the net so he flipped and stacked his pads to stop that. He did it thinking the puck was going to be one timed toward the net and he was too far to his left to get up and against the post to stop it. So he hoped it would come along the ice and stacked his pads. Fortunately for us Val had to actually collect that puck from almost behind him so by the time he was ready to shoot... heh... easy goal. The real one that made me laugh was the two on two where basically both defenders AND Connor screwed it up to make it an easy goal. That one was funny.

The first goal G gsave up is the bad one ... the second one ... meh ... Nate's PP goal was made from nearly the exact same spot against the 'best goalie in the league' ... so yeah ... If G had not let that first one in where he cheated off the post, it would have been an A+ performance ... I'm cool will his B+/A- showing ... plus we're up 2 - 1 in the series! GO AVS!!!

Great game but we need to play a better 2nd period, full 60. Can’t depend on calls even though they were blatant and obvious calls. Let’s beat this team by outclassing them. Mikko mackinnon need to do more especially mikko. Get to the 2nd round and get some guys back. Also let’s start getting the post season gear going.

Mikko is in his classic "Mikko Funk" ... I've seen this before and have no explanation for it. Perhaps he's just trying too hard ... ??? He'll navigate out of it as he always does and then opposing teams will have something else to worry about. GO AVS!!!

Rud, those two goals were not bad goals. 1st was a perfectly placed shot and the 2nd was thru a two person screen. Your expectations for Geo is unrealistic. I'm curious as to what your athletic background is? Many of your conclusions seem to lack any foundational knowledge of what's realistic.

First one is bad because he's supposed to be covering the post, he starts to cheat a cross ice pass and gives space to shoot at the near post. It's not the worst goal to give up, but its a goal that doesn't happen if he stays on the post

As a "smaller" goalie, Georgiev had to honor the threat of the pass to the slot, which is why you see him "cheat" away from his post a bit. He had a tough choice; if he'd have completely sealed the post, the entire other half of the net is completely exposed. And, considering the first two games, and the reg. season, that threat had to be honored. He gambled, and it bit him, even if only by the slimmest of margins. The second goal was also a gamble. The only way for a goalie to play that shot is statistically, ie positionally. If he 'cheats' towards the non-screened side of the net, it probably hits him, if not a held save. But it then EASILY could be deflected right past him through the forest of legs. If he played it like he did, then what happened easily happens. He had to gamble, and unfortunately crapped out. Neither goal against was worrisome in any way. They both sucked, but only in a "head shake, what are you gonna do" manner. What REALLY matters, is after those two, he was an absolute wall when he had to be.

Dont take my word for it. Even the most optimistic models have that toffoli shot at about 0.07 xGF. Most quality models have it down around 0.03 to 0.04. It's a bad goal, an NHL goalies should stop it. As I said on the second goal if you want to make the argument that he was screened and had no chance I'm fine with it.

@@DNVR_Rudo Being a goalie at a high level, whether it's hockey or even soccer, means that they sometimes have to play the percentages. The Toffoli goal was a perfectly placed shot and chances are he'd only make it 1 time in 10 attempts. Looking at the metrics and data is one thing, but having some athletic background to draw upon provides a level of appreciation and understanding of why these players do what they do.

@@JoseyWales156I mean It was all year long in our end we couldnt catch a break. off Makars skate etc.. either the Dman deflects it in on G doesnt see it or gambles wrong 9/10. If he keeps this rate up im fine w Geo when you think of the alternative. besides he made MASSIVE saves in this game
