It’s still early, but perhaps one of the most unintelligible things people said was that Novak was “finished” after literally a couple of underwhelming performances, when he was dominating the tour just 5 months ago. Back to his pre-2024 and late 2023 form! Something was seriously off at the Australian Open and IW. It was almost like he was laboring to play his shots. Today, he was back to his usual self, gliding across the court and effortlessly timing the ball. The potential Sinner vs. Djokovic final is going to be a blockbuster.

@Whatreally123 hmmm...i didn't sense anything...certainly playing much better than he did at the start of the year. Remember, Djoko gradually levels up and usually plays only as well as what is required of him to win.

@@Whatreally123 he hasn't hit the ball as cleanly as today since the ATP Finals in November. When Djokovic looks like Djokovic he generally keeps it going for a while. The last few years he didn't hit the ball anywhere near that cleanly on clay until Rome (and didn't even play Rome last year and was poor all the way until RG but still won it).

@huzcer it's not about his strikes. His game was good today. It's his vibe. He didn't look like his free flowing self and enjoying it. It's just a feeling I have and can't really describe it well. He looked like he was enjoying his game back in the ATP finals but now it felt like he is doing cos he has to. I'd love to be proven wrong and he goes on to win this and RG

According to those with hate in their hearts, it means this era is “weak.” But then as soon as Sinner and Alcatraz start winning, they hop on the bandwagon and talk about how they’ll destroy “Novak” and that Novak is finished. Then, when they lose-they whine about the weak era. The ATP finals last year was the prime example of such shameless flip-flopping from his haters.

Irrelevant .. Roger had 50x more Impact on tennis. And far more interesting to watch. Tennis at the end of the day is entertainment. Stats alone can’t determine who is the greatest, you also have to look at the Impact on the sport. Roger and Rafa have had so much more.

@@nikolapostic Every coach gives pointers and tips as only someone with an outside perspective can do. This may be a trial period for Novak and Nenad, but if their relationship proves fruitful, it will be for more reasons than just the calming aspect a coach brings.

*The reports of my demise are greatly exaggerated - Novak Djokovic* First time this year that he has shown such consistently clean hitting, depth and ease of changing ball direction. Probably his best performance at Monte Carlo since beating Sinner there in 2021 and his best start since 2015.

Okay cool, but let's not start counting our chickens before they hatch yet...Safiulin isn't exactly known to be terrific clay courter, just like majority of russians outside of top-10, it is by no means any sort of indication of Novak's readiness yet...if he would beat someone like Fokina or Etcheverry with this score in MC i would be more inclined to be very it is indicative of his real clay court level here, but russians aren't clay court specialist...lol

@@Summon256 I'm going on Djokovic's ball striking, not the opponent. He hasn't hit the ball that cleanly across a match since last November. (came close in the Mannarino match maybe). Compare to last year at MC where Djokovic could barely hit the ball out of his way in the match vs Musetti. If Djokovic can continue this quality of ball striking for a few matches I'm confident that he's in good shape. Certainly bins all the rubbish that was thrown out after Indian Wells.

@@huzcer My point is that you can only hit the ball as clean as your opponent allows you! Thiswhole match Novak was in complete control, because his opponent was just hitting back and when it wasn't the case he was just missing a lot...if he will play someone, who can consistently hammer him from the back of the court forcing to run from side to side, he will be too cornered to be in position to hit clean winners, like you can see in this match! Novak's job against someone like Sinner, Alcaraz or even Rune is to not let them have initiative and force them to run from the get go, but the problem is that those guys are also great returners as much as they are clean ball strikers...especially Sinner...

Since 2016 he has been extremely difficult to beat in the three Masters events leading up to Madrid. Winning in Monte Carlo now would be of special significance. I eagerly await the final between Sinner and Novak!

TBH novak's level was impressive seeing that its his first clay match on clay this season. His FH and BH both were nailing some beautiful points. Surprisingly novaks drop shots and net approaching was unbelievable today. May be some nenad zimonjic effect. All in all the level is going to increase as the clay season passes. Hoping so he'll peak at the roland garros-wimby-olympics

Yes its for both player the same condition but IF YOU WANT TO BEAT Novak, you need windy condition like the wimbledon 2023, RG 2019, RG 2017, US OPEN 2013, us open 2012 loses from novak by wind, OR you need Heat condition LIKE RG 2013, RG 2014, RG 2015,, AO 2017; AO 2024, WIMBL 2013 US OPEN 2021 ; US OPEN 2016, us open 2014 TO BEAT NOVAK

The weather conditions are always the same for both. He didn’t lose to the weather, he lost to the other players. If they didn’t play better, they would not win. Weather is just one of many factors in a tennis match.

ok lets introduce a new electric tape for line accuracy that lights up on the court exactly where the ball hits the line and has zoom in options for the judge and crowd to see to prevent corrupt calls and allow proper alignment and order for athletes, this is a new idea I'm putting out there, who's interested? The tape would light up temporarily for playback purposes and fadeout pretty quickly, allowing for obvious distinction between a foot mark or ball mark as it would copy the indentation exactly to the pattern and placement.
