In this video I take a look at this ultra-compact 6-axis collaborative robot called the MyCobot Pi from Elephant Robotics.
I had great fun filming this. Despite having zero experience with robotics I even managed to get it up and running and work with some basic programming.
This is definitely a great way to learn robotics for education and hobbyists.

It's delightful to see the very professional and diligent review of #myCobot from Ben. We're so happy that you really enjoy the filming and learning process of this. Hope that all the viewers find out that it's not difficult to get the robotic arm working and running. Just give it a try first!

thanks for this video, definately mycobot can be a cost-efficient choice as a cobot/6-axis robot arm for individual engineer. I am able to get one and make some project with ROS and OpenCV.

@@BenVallack yup did inspire me to build my first ortholinear keyboard. I also want to try out the corne, but things like the home row mods and all cause some tiny latency which gets annoying and hence I feel I won't be able to reduce below 60%
@BenVallack
@BenVallack 2 роки тому
@@thesrj240 Yeah I’ll be looking at this in a vid soon, the trick I found is to not have Shift as a home row mod. That way you don’t introduce the delays in typing. There are settings for the others that don’t change the latency in key display too.

@BenVallack 2 роки тому
Soon :) I have two freebie vids to do first (don’t like to have them hanging around) one is keyboard related, one is another wireless earbuds review (different angle with this one though). Stay tuned! There’s also been a bit of a delay while I rebuilt my studio/office/home cinema (hence new backdrop in this vid). Video on that will follow too. I have loads of vids in the planning stage too so there should be a flurry of interesting stuff over the next 2−3 weeks.

Hi Ben, I watched this my 9 yo daughter and she wrote "Very interesting Ben personally I have used a coding app like this but for primary children.Also what age group do you think this robot is for [example,years 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10] i would like to know "

Yeah I'd say years 5 and 6. I'll be donating mine to my local school actually.

::Ben:: OH BOY... lol. I can't even program my CNC machine, mostly because I am afraid of screwing up my investment by being a novice, and now you've made me want to pick up a robot arm. Why do you do this to me, my guy? As always, love the videos. Still waiting for you to do a tour of the ferris, btw. That looks like a really interesting board. I could probably never get used to the AGGRESSIVE looking stagger of those outer columns, but it still looks nice. Btw, I also built a really nice Low Profile version of my Reviung 41 that I think you'd probably find interesting. Remind me to send you a picture of it over on twitter. I have some really nice choc blacks in the board, unlike your need to reduce the weight of the springs in your gergo, I needed to go heavy. Have you heard about the different mods to make your choc switches smoother and quieter? I lubed up these blacks so that I could get them to stop pinging like crazy and I am so very happy that I did.
@BenVallack
@BenVallack 2 роки тому
Heh yeah messing it up would be quite easy I think! You can get it to smash into itself etc quite easily. Yep Ferris content will be incoming. The column stagger is actually the thing I’m starting love about it the most. It comes full circle on my idea of having the hands going not inline with the columns that I did in the split keyboard ergonomics video. Turns out the reason I was doing that was to ensure top row little finger reachability, well now that problem is solved and hands can go inline with the columns. What I’m interested in is for how many people it would apply to in the same way or might it event just be better for everyone! Yeah I heard about the low pro mods, might give it a go one day! Might just add some lube and call it a day rather than doing the tape mod as well though! Cheers! Ben
@bluefaolan
@bluefaolan 2 роки тому
@@BenVallack yeah the tape part of the mod seems a little off to me, personally. I didn’t bother with it and tried just lubing up the switches which turned out just fine, in my opinion. I’ve tried the o-rings, on two separate style of switches, the choc robins I originally started with and now the blacks; and I can’t say that I care for it much at all. I am, however, infinitely pleased with the tiny brooms they included in the kit I ordered. Didn’t realize that they were a part of the deal, but they work really well for dusting out my setup. I guess where the aggressive stagger stands out for me is that every time I go to use shift, on my six column setup, I feel like the movement is super awkward to pull off. I am considering either moving my shift from the bottom left and right corners to somewhere else. Although, I find that the awkwardness seems to come from when I stupidly keep trying to use my left pink for the left half instead of remembering to use it for the opposite side of the board, which is apparently what you’re supposed to do-I guess? I love having my enter key in the bottom right though, because I use the flat of my hand to tap it, rather than reaching down with my pinky.
@BenVallack
@BenVallack 2 роки тому
Have you tried moving shift to a thumb key?
@bluefaolan
@bluefaolan 2 роки тому
@@BenVallack Not as of yet, but I have been thinking about it. Again the issue seems to be just when I reach for certain letter combos on the left side. Also, can I just say that, I am struggling with my adoption of Colmak DH mod. I have been trying super hard to just sit down and almost brute force my way through it, but the blocks in my head are real. (And I can't help but run into them full steam ahead.) I seem to be doing better with it when I just use the low profile keyboard that has blank keys, but I still cannot seemingly commit to memory where some of the keys are. I looked at workman, at first, and discovered that it was way too odd for me, same with Dvorak, but Colmak DH seemed to be a better fit. However, I am still struggling with it and I may just have to give up on that dream. lol.
